“Memory loss?” Austin panics
“Yeah man. The nurse told me and I blew up. Maybe she’s just confused? She will gain her memory soon. I know she will because she will.” I try to convince myself
“I can’t believe this. Absolutely cannot believe this!” Austin says with anger
“Why her? What did she ever fucking do! She doesn’t deserve this!” I say with anger also
Austin looks at me for a minute and then walks off. I follow him and he’s going to the nurses’ station. Great. I think they got their share of yelling by me. They don’t need another guy yelling at them.
“Listen here you under paid nurses,” he says bitterly
“Sir, please.” the nurse ‘Molly” says
“No, you listen to me. You’re gonna try to gain her memory back. Give her medication or something! She has to gain her memory back! She’s my little sister and is engaged!” he yells
Soon the doctor walks up to Austin and pats him on the shoulder.
“Can I privately speak to you and Mr. Horan privately for a moment.” he asks kindly
He groans and mutters “I’m not done here.”
I follow the doctor into a small room and Austin and I sit down on the chairs. The doctor gives us a disappointing look with a mixture of sadness. What’s happening?
“I know you young men are upset with what’s going on but please remind yourself that we are trying our absolute best.” he tells us
“We’re sorry for causing a scene. It’s just we love her so much and it’s really hard on everybody.” I apologize
“I understand. There’s a high chance she will gain her memory back. Most patients do. She’s just a little wounded up by all the medication. Plus she just woke up from a coma,” he says
“But… we did find something.” he adds
Oh God. What?
“When we were doing the testing we saw something. Miss. Carter was four weeks pregnant.” he says uneasy
“WHAT! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?” I yell and stand up from my chair
“Excuse me? I don’t think I heard you correctly.” Austin scoffs
“She was four weeks pregnant. Sadly she had a miscarriage. I’m assuming you guys weren’t planning on having a baby…?” the doctor says
“Fuck no.” Austin and I say at the same time
