The candles flickered, casting the glow over the dining table. What normally reminded me of golden light was now reminding me of dancing shadows and things in the dark. My stomach growled as I stared at the plate in front of me filled with seafood and all my favorite dishes. But I wouldn't touch one bit of it. Angeline sat across from me positively digging into her meal with Cole beside her and their mother at the head of the table to my right. I refused to meet their gaze and stared anywhere else in the room. For what seemed like an hour, we sat in silence.

Finally Angeline broke the silence. She sipped on a wineglass and I found myself glaring at her. She put down the glass. "Your friend certainly does taste nice. He was my favorite."

I felt bile in my throat as I realised what she was drinking, followed quickly by anger. I picked up the knife beside me and thanked Jason's lessons as I sent it spinning through the air heading straight for Angelines throat.

Quick as lightning Cole plucked in out of the air and tilted his head to the side before throwing it back. It thudded into the wooden chair I was sitting on, right by my head. I flinched and he gave a short laugh.

"Cole." His mother sighed. "No throwing knifes at the guest please."

"Just teaching the little bitch a lesson"

"It's going to take a lot more then that to teach me a lesson, you royal dickhead."

Coles eyes flashed with anger and I couldn't help but blow him a sarcastic kiss.

"Are you sure that was a good idea Hayden?" Angeline looked at me from under her eyelashes.

I kept my eyes on the glass, letting it fuel my anger. "Nothing can be worst than what you did to him." I glared at her.

Angeline smirked. "Oh... You have no idea."

I kept my head up as the two vampires who brought me down into the cells took my wrists. I saw what they were going to do a few seconds before and pulled back but there was nothing I could do. They restrained my wrists hanging above me on manacles from the ceiling. Then they left me there. My feet were touching the ground, which I was thankful for, but standing there with my arms suspended above me made me feel awfully vulnerable. My mind ran through so many outcomes of being here. Was I going to be whipped? My stomach curled in fear and I waited for something to happen.

***

A few hours later my head throbbed, suddenly and excruciatingly. I leaned my forehead on my shoulder and waited for it to pass. Then I realised. The poison. Jason said that they gave more to me. I needed the antidote! I tugged against the chains and they rattled around.

"Hello? Is anyone there?" I yelled desperately. But no one came.

***

As the hours continued the throbbing increased. I focused on keeping my breathing regular and calm. Suddenly something dropped off my chin and onto the floor. Something crimson.

I tried to look up but there was nothing there. It was then that I felt something running down my chin which felt a lot like a runny nose.

Blood. I was bleeding.

I reached a whole new level of 'oh shit this is bad'.

Suddenly the cell door opened and Angeline came in. I tugged against the chains and she gave a sad smile. The vampire went over to a small table and set down a silver case.

When she opened I caught a glimpse of the antidote I pulled against the chains harder.

"Do you understand what your punishment is then?"

I shook my head, my eyes glued to the blue orb. She sighed and moved closer. Although I needed the antidote I pulled back.

She touched the side of my neck and drew away to show me the blood on her fingers. My blood.

"As the poison reaches the final stages you will experience bleeding from your mouth, nose and ears. You will eventually lose physical consciousness and will not feel anything. Of course your mind will still be active and considering the recent things you have seen that would be the most effective kind of punishment. I will hardly have to lift a finger."

"How long?" I spat out the blood in my mouth and made sure to get it to get it to land near her foot. "How long until you've had your fun?"

"Hayden, this gives me no joy... But your punishment will be over in about a week, at most. I'll give you the antidote in the last few minutes to ensure that you keep breathing." She ran a hand through her hair, sighing. "You know... You didn't have to do that. If you had just accepted what happened then maybe Owen would still be alive. It's your fault he's dead."

Though I had been thinking the same thing, hearing it coming from her made something inside me break. I hung my head. The pain throbbed and I couldn't help but wince. An action that was not lost on Angeline.

"I had such high hopes for you. out of all my friends that I have revealed our world too, you had lasted the longest... its a shame I had to do what I did to break you Hayden..." Angeline moved closer, gripping my chin and holding my head up so that she could look into my eyes. "Everyone shows fear in different ways, but the trick is to play on that person's fear so that they grow to fear you, respect you, and obey you. Someday you will understand."

She pushed the antidote into my mouth and I growled. A sound that I didn't even know that I could make. She took a step back. "I'm sorry that you had to find out about being a werewolf in that way. I was going to tell you. One day. You have to believe me Hayden. That part of you is better kept hidden." She closed the case holding the antidote and walked out without looking back.
