Ch. 23 ~ I'm Going Home

Mona POV

My plane had finally touched down in the Atlanta. It had been a little while since I had been home because of my busy schedule and new boyfriend. I will admit saying the word boyfriend felt good on my tongue.

My mother had picked me from the airport and now I was at the HairSalon with Alexis and my mother.

"So you set my baby up with this Ian Harrington and ya'll kept this from me?"

"Mama Harris don't be mad with me. I met him last year when I did a party for one of his friends. He was a nice guy and I thought he would be good for Mona. He has his own investment agency and wasn't dependent on his parents and just seemed like a very nice guy."

"Is he nice Mona?" My mother said.

"He is very sweet and I have fallen in love with him."

"In love already?"

"Yes mama. I'm in love, he makes me feel all giddy inside and out and we have so much fun together. To be honest I can't see my life without him. We are actually moving in together."

"Mona are you sure? This is a big commitment and if things don't work out then where does that leave you?"

"He wants to marry me and have a family. I have been so independent for so long that I think being with Darren for so long I question everything. I guess you can say Darren did a number on me."

"He was scum and still is. He used you baby and he brought your self esteem down. I was glad he showed his true colors. He is liar as a cheat and he didn't deserve your time or your love."

"Well I wish I would have seen his true side years ago instead of wasting three years of my life."

"Baby, although he wasn't the right one, we learn from our past. From what I'm hearing he sounds like the one. I'm sorry you had to go through the pain of heartache with Darren but now you can finally see how a real man can treat a woman."

"He's white mama."

"And what is that suppose to mean to me, Mona?"

"Some people may not like that. People talk and can be cruel. People say once we become successful we go to the white side. I think I was successful before I met him and to be honest he brings out the best in me."

"You love him right?"

"Yes, I truly do."

"So who cares what other people say. He could be yellow or maroon and if he treats you right, he loves you and wants to give you the world then go for it. It is so hard to find a good man. Your daddy was a good man. He treated me like his queen and you were his princess. God I miss that man."

I held my mama's hand. My daddy was a good man. He loved us until the day he died.

"I just want to see you happy baby and if he makes you happy you have my blessing."

"Thanks mama. That means a lot to me." She reached over and kissed my hand.

"I love you baby."

"I love you too mama."

We finished up at the salon where Alexis and I met Ray at our old hangout, Johnny Burgers.

"So how is that fine looking specimen of a boyfriend doing?"

"Good. We are moving in together."

"What! That man ain't playing. Alexis you should have been there when he was claiming her. I lied to him and said I use to call her Monie Moan and he was fighting his anger. I was joking but he didn't know. He was claiming her then. I will tell you one thing, he rocked her world because our girl was getting her freak on. They were making sounds unknown to man. I thought I was back in the Ice Age."
