Christmas

Izaya's POV

I'm walking through Ikebukuro alone on Christmas Eve. I see a lot of couples walking around and laughing having a good time.

I envy them, they all have someone important to them, someone that cares for them as well.

Me, I have no one. Just the hope that the person I do care about finally notices me.

During my thoughts I hear someone yelling my name. And speaking of the person important to me there he is.

Shizu-chan throws a street sign at me and I gracefully dodge it. I start to playfully tease Shizu-chan and get him to start following me, but that fails.

His girlfriend Varona shows up and stops him, which really makes me feel ignored. Only because when she shows up I'm invisible to Shizu-chan. I'm not even existing anymore to him.

I watch them leave and I head back to my apartment feeling forgotten. Then I get a text from Shinra saying,

'Hey Izaya I'm having a Christmas party tonight wanna come?'

'I'll think about it.'

'Ok'

I put my phone in my pocket and keep walking to my apartment. I really don't want to go, because I know if I do I'll see Shizu-chan and Varona there.

I get into my apartment building and go to the elevator and press the up button. As I wait for the elevator door to open I hear yelling. Since I have nothing better to do I go towards the voices.

I go out the front doors of the apartment building and see a crowd of onlookers around Shizu-chan and Varona. They're both yelling at each other in a very heated argument.

"So I got a Christmas present for Izaya what's the harm in that?!" Shizu-chan yells and when the sentence processes through my head my heart skips a beat.

"What the harm in that is, shouldn't you get a ring for your girlfriend and not someone you always claim to hate?!"

"Well it was the only thing I could think to get him that wouldn't be used to hurt me! I couldn't get a switchblade!"

"Well you could've gotten him nothing you asshole!" With that Varona angrily walks away.

The crowd starts to disperse and I slowly start to walk toward Shizu-chan. I get his attention by saying, "Hey, you alright?"

"Yeah I'm fine." He answers not looking at me.

I go to hold his hand and he lets me, so I lead him into my apartment. He goes to sit on my couch so I get him a drink of water and ask, "Do you need anything else."

"No I'm fine, here." He says holding out a small box.

I guess that's the ring he got me that Varona was angry about. I grab the box and open it up seeing a beautiful silver ring with fancy embroidery on the outside.

I take the ring out of the box and look at the design. It looks absolutely beautiful with the swirls and a little street sign on it with a little switchblade right beside it.

I look inside the box and see in cursive writing, From Shizuo to Izaya; Marry Christmas.

I smile and say to Shizu-chan, "Thank you."

He nods then looks up at me and asks, "Are you alright?"

"Yeah, why'd you ask?" I ask confused.

"Because your crying."

"Oh, I'm sorry I must be really happy." I say wiping away the tears.

Shizu-chan smiles at me and asks, "Do you want to go to Shinra's Christmas party with me?"

I look at him shocked and then he says, "In truth is was going to give you that ring at the party but I didn't know if you were coming or not."

"I'll go to the party with you, Shizu-chan." I answer smiling at him.

Shizu-chan gets up from the couch and goes toward the door. While passing me he grabs my hand gently and pulls me out of my apartment.

While walking I change one of my regular silver rings with the one Shizu-chan got me. I look around and see a few people staring at us and I start to blush.

We both get to Shinra's house still holding hands and Shizu-chan rings the doorbell. As we wait for Shinra to open the door Shizu-chan turns toward me and kisses me.

My brain goes everywhere I can't believe he's kissing me, but why, isn't he still with Varona? They didn't technically break up, so why is he kissing me? Not that I mind though.

Shizu-chan pulls away from me then Shinra opens the door and says, "Hey guys! So Shizuo you finally broke up with Varona?"

"Yeah." Shizu-chan simply answers and walks into Shinra's apartment still holding my hand. We go sit down on the couch beside each other really close and I can feel my heart race.

So is Shizu-chan not in love with Varona anymore? I wonder when that happened, I'm perfectly fine with it, just curious.

But maybe just maybe I'll finally get the best Christmas of my life this year.
