The sound of Ace's fists hitting Mason were sickening. Mason was trapped under Ace, using one arm to try and push the other boy off him while the other was attempting to attack back. In the trees behind them the others were fighting to get free with no success.

Mason managed to roll Ace over and get on top of the boy, landing several punches in himself, though Ace easily deflected most of them. Ace managed to get his legs under Mason and flipped the boy up and over his shoulders, Mason landing on his back with a thud and a groan.

Before he could move Ace was on his feet and hauled Mason to his feet and punched him back to the ground. Mason, being as stubborn as he was, was back on his feet with his fists up like a boxer.

"Mason!" She called out, her head was getting heavy from the blood loss, "Mason you can't beat him!"

Mason didn't look at her when he responded, he kept his eyes on Ace in front of him. "Lilly hold on! I can beat him, I promise I won't let anything happen to you!"

"He has a black belt in karate you have no hope!"

She thought she heard a faint fuck before Ace unleashed his next round of attack. Quickly he ran up to Mason and kicked him in the chest throwing him backwards to the ground. Before he could move Ace was on top of him again, punching him and punching him.

Lilly wanted to look away, she couldn't witness Ace killing Mason but she couldn't take her eyes off the fight. Norah wanted the two boys to fight to the death, and from the start Lilly knew if it came down to a fight between them Mason had no hope. Ace was a trained fighter. He looked small and skinny but underneath his clothes there was a well toned and fighters body.

As she watched Mason make another attempt to get Ace off of him she realized which one of the boys she should have been with from the beginning. It wasn't because Ace was about to kill Mason, every time Ace hit the other boy she saw his lips move as though he was saying sorry. It was because Mason needed her, and she needed him.

He was about to be taken away from her and she couldn't imagine a world without him. Without his humour, his sarcasm, his touch, his lips. She needed Mason as much as she needed her family. And now because of her and two boys stupid argument over her he was going to die, and Ace was going to be haunted by this for the rest of his life.

With a final blow Mason's head slumped to the side. Ace bowed his head, his breathing heavy as he staggered to his feet. When Lilly locked eyes with him she could see his dark irises were watery with tears. He didn't want to kill Mason, he had to.

Running forward, staggering, he ran towards Lilly. When he got to the tree where she hung he grabbed her wrists and applied pressure. She saw his lips moving and it sounded as though his voice was far away. He was crying too, tears rolling down his face.

Ace looked over to the woman and sniffed, "You have what you want, all the blood you need. Let her go. Let them all go."

Norah laughed and kept walking to the fire and crouched down beside Hazel, "Just because I have everything I need doesn't mean I want the kids who foiled my plans last summer alive." She walked put her hand into the air and pulled as though she was grabbing something, Lilly saw Mason's body glide across the grass. When he was next to the fire Norah checked his pulse and smiled, "Ah good, still a pulse. I do need him to bring Hazel back."

Lilly tried to call out again but Ace gently shushed her, "Save your energy." She could barely hear him. He turned to Norah, "You have him, fix her wrists!"

Norah sighed and Lilly's wrists felt as though they were on fire. She looked down and saw a white light was gliding across them, singing the skin. She was on fire! Norah, or someone, what cauterizing the wounds.
