He stood out there for a good while.

His face twitched near the corner of his lips and his eyes just seemed so dull.

It's her.

I have no doubt.

The way he is quiet and taking in whomever's words he's hearing.

After quite a bit of time, he hangs up and takes a few breaths before re-entering my room.

"Sorry...um...that was uh...Georgia."

I knew it.

Everyone who's anyone would have guessed it (😉🙃😒).

So here we are.

"She uh...she's pregnant...and she's insisting it's mine." He says quietly as he stands near the end of the bed. My face remains neutral.

This woman.

This whore.

She is beyond a problem.

Whether she knows of Mohammed's death or not- she is playing with these men because she wants support money.

And Max is too nice a guy to see it.

Putting my hand out- for his phone- I wait for him to give it to me- but he misconstrues the gesture and takes my hand in his.

"I...I'm sorry. I don't know what to say about it....I mean...I want to be a father and support her, but..."

Please just stop.

Please just shut up and we can pretend we get a happily ever after.

I wave him off to get him to shut up- yet it doesn't help.

"I care about you and want to see where this can go. It's just she's..."
I clap and point to his phone- but he doesn't respond to it before his mouth spouts the words he will regret later.
"My wife and despite it all, I should be there for her...right?"

Laying back against the bed, I roll my eyes before closing them and sighing heavily- despite the pain in my throat.

"Helen..." I just keep my eyes closed because it's easier to hide the tears wanting to fall. "Helen?"

His hand comes up to my cheek and I open my eyes and glare at him. Pointing to his phone again, he finally hands it to me- unlocked- and I open his notepad.

She was cheating on you with Mohammed.

I don't show him though.

I backspace the entire thing and feel my heart clench in my chest.

I can't ask him to dive into something with me when his heart still so easily and evidently belongs to that woman.

Ask for a paternity test. She cheated on you....don't you think the possibility of it being yours is low....unless of course you were with her around that time.

I show him that message and he sighs and shrugs.

"She already told me she doesn't want to take a paternity test. She's afraid it will harm the baby and..." I gently slap him in his arm and make an exasperated look.

You are a doctor! You know it will have no affect on the baby.

"I know but it still worries her and her doctor told her not to get stressed out- so I don't want to cause anything."

You're an idiot.

I erase the message instead of showing him.

What if it's not yours?
