When my brother was living in Enid with my grandparents in 2009 or so he found a bottle of cough medicine that was prescribed by my grandfather but it was only as needed. You see I don't know the source, I doubt he smoked, he lived to be 86, but my grandfather had a persistent dry cough for as long as I had known him. He typically would "tough it out" and try to remedy with mints and candy, rarely needed the actual prescribed medication, the syrup. During out visit it was around Christmas time of 2009 I was in the kitchen asking my grandmother for an Advil pm, I needed to take one every night to sleep beginning in the summer of my freshman year of college. She got one for me from the bottle and said something about "you don't have a cough to?" I replied "no," Then she stated oh ok if you did there is this cough syrup to help that your brother loves. He was taking large doses of my ailing grandfather's medication to get high. That is what Enid Oklahoma can do to a person
