If I Never Knew You

The next morning, the turtles, Mirabel, Casey and April buried Splinter in a nice place in Central Park. They lay flowers by his grave and sobbed with sadness.

"Adios, Splinter," said Mirabel as tears fell.

Leo lay Splinter's cane against his headstone. Mikey hugged Donnie tightly and sobbed into his chest. Raph stayed silent. Casey and April hugged each other.

Feeling ashamed, Leo walked away. He went to the lake and sat by it, staring sadly down at his reflection. His tears fell into the water causing his reflection to ripple.

He closed his eyes and sighed when he heard a voice behind him. "Leonardo."

Leo glanced up and gasped in surprise. It was Master Splinter!

"Do not fear me, my son," said Splinter softly.

"Splinter?" asked Leo in shock. "Is it really you? Or am I...dreaming this?"

"You are not dreaming," said Splinter. "I have attained a higher spiritual plane of existence. Passing into death, we merge with the whole of life, we become one in all of nature in all of the universe. Even with you."

"I...I can't go on without you, Father," Leo whimpered.

Splinter lay a hand on his shoulder. "You must, Leonardo. You are the sensei now. Your brothers need you. Mirabel needs you. Tamatoa is still alive."

"What?" Leo gasped.

"You must end this, Leonardo," said Splinter seriously.

Leo teared up. "I don't know if I'm strong enough, Sensei."

"Leonardo," Splinter lifted his son's face to meet his. "Be fearless."

Very slowly, the outline of Splinter began to become fainter. Leo's heart was breaking. He didn't dare blink because he feared that when he opened his eyes, his father would be gone altogether.

"Please don't leave me," he pleaded.

"Leonardo...I will always be with you," said Splinter.

The last thing Leo could make out was the faintest outline of his father's smile. And then he was gone.

The blue-masked turtle hugged his knees and softly cried.

"Leo?" He looked up and saw Mirabel.

Leo sniffed and wiped his tears with his hand. "Sorry...I just...needed some time to think."

Mirabel sat beside him. "His spirit will live on, you know."

Leo sighed in sadness. "I'm sorry for last night, Mirabel. I didn't know what I was thinking. I put you in danger and I almost lost you."

"Mi amor, it's okay," said Mirabel, taking his hand. "You don't need to worry about anything and you won't lose me...plus you saved me."

Leo smiled and hugged Mirabel. "I would do anything for you, my beautiful Mirabel."

As they hugged music began playing and they sang.

After they finished singing, the turtle and the girl leaned closer to each other and kissed on the lips.
