Ch.46

Keeping everyone calm inside the council building was a difficult task. Everyone's emotions were already running high, but being forced into a cramped high tension environment did no one favors. On top of that, the blood moon was coming up. The other council members have counted the days and have studied the night sky. There was no denying that the blood moon would come soon in a couple weeks. Naturally the council members were fearful of telling the rest of the villagers due to the circumstances. One quick meeting behind doors made it clear to Arla that they were relying on her to break the news. As if people weren't angry at her enough.

Having everyone rely on a witch to free them was already pushing it. Arla wouldn't be surprised if they tried pulling something against her one of these days. She needed to keep them all at bay and have them believing you. That was a daunting task considering how they had easily turned on you based on a rumor. They've been waiting to have a reason to hate you. It boiled her blood, hating how adamant people were even back when you were an innocent baby. Somehow she was supposed to make these crazy paranoid filled people trust you, a witch. Something they've all been taught to fear and hate. Yet she's going to have to change their minds until you can finally break the curse.

Arla walked out from the back doors. She had no choice but to tell everyone. They can't possibly blame the blood moon on her and they knew it was bound to come soon. As she came up to the stage, she looked at everyone down below. Most villagers were huddled close with their families. Some little kids were trying to run around and play as their parents scolded them to stay still. Life inside here was hard to endure, but Arla knew you could do it. Just the other day everyone saw the light wave that occurred. Villagers freaked out until they realized it was harmless and warm. Arla had to bite her tongue down on what she knew about magic. She just had to promise everyone that light probably meant a good thing. Angels.

What were you doing, (F/n)?

"Good morning. I hope you all rested well last night. Food will be passed around soon according to schedule. I am also obligated to alert you all as always that a blood moon is coming," Arla said as she heard scattered gasps. Heads shot up in the crowd, eyes now glued to her. "We will be returning to the old methods years ago of all hiding together during a blood moon. It is still not until two weeks, but we will board shut all openings and do our best to push through the night as we always have."

"Unless (F/n) saves us like you claim she will." Already one person with an attitude in the morning.

"Will she be able to break it before the blood moon?"

"What if she never does? What if she's the cause of the blood moon?"

"May I remind you that you're speaking about an eighteen year old girl?" Arla challenged those who were so against you. They sounded like lunatics when they proposed those theories. They only glared back at her, thinking yelling louder would add value to their nonsense.

It would be a losing battle for them in the end. They had no one else to rely on, but you. Especially with the blood moon coming! Yet of course there had to be those who would die with their opinion than have a change of heart and admit they're wrong. People who fully believed you would use the blood moon to your advantage to come in here and kill them all. That wasn't going to happen. Maybe Arla didn't know everything about you and that was something that was hard to admit. She liked to think she knew everything about her baby, but apparently you were living a second life she knew nothing about. Regardless, she had faith that she raised a well rounded woman to be a good person. But if she was being honest, you've always been a good person. You would never harm the village no matter how much they hurt you. It just wasn't in your nature.

One day they will see you for the person you are. The rumors will be swept away and they won't cling onto their biases pointlessly. Arla hoped to create that world for you, but perhaps you would be capable of creating it yourself. She rooted for you. Even if not everyone changed their mind. She couldn't see the Bauer family easing up too much, but she hoped for progress and proper healing. Arla sighed to herself as the entire village talked. Everyone had something to say while she kept her lips sealed. Arla eyed each and every one of them. She spotted Aletta and Verona holding hands, refusing to leave one another alone. They missed you a lot and their care for you certainly alienated them from the rest of the village. It was unfair. Then Arla's eyes landed on Elias's parents. His father was irritated by everything that left Arla's mouth and his mother mindlessly agreeing to everything that left the man's lips. The Schmid family have been tense since their son's disappearance. Something they blamed heavily on those two girls and you.
