Nobody can believe it. Not our friends, or Emery's parents, or his grandma, or my folks. I'm not the settling-down type. I would've been perfectly content to stay single forever. But Emery doesn't make me feel shackled; he makes me feel free. From the beginning, he saw my potential, not just another dumb jock. Patiently bearing with me, even when I was out of line, never judging me or abandoning me, he was the only one who ever really knew me. Besides, I know we've got what it takes because we've been inseparable our whole lives.

"I figured..." I scratch the back of my head one day as I'm hammering away on the construction site for what would've been Aly and Emery's house. The project must go on, but it'll be a little different. "I know you hate big weddings. So let's just do it ourselves, by ourselves. No stress-"

"Brandon," Emery interrupts, bending down in the dust and dirt beside me with a smile. "I've been waiting almost thirty years for this day. I want something a little more than a Vegas drive-thru wedding."

So it's decided: the wedding is going to be big.
