Boy, did she make going to school sound easy. The hardest part was waking up.

At 6 a.m. in the morning.

Then she'd just brought a couple notebooks, her backpack, and some fruits she'd gotten the day before.

After she'd finished getting ready, she started to walk to school.

When she'd gotten there, there were lots of kids.

Short kids, tall kids, fast kids, running kids, walking kids, playing kids, silent kids, sitting kids, and talking kids.

Too. Many. Kids.

Too bad Sophie didn't know a single one, but the good part was that none of them knew her.

None of them knew that she was a freak.

None of them knew she didn't belong.

None of them knew she could read their minds.

And the sad part was that none of them paid attention to her.

They were talking, probably gossiping, about her behind her back.

Now they were paying attention to her.

"Look at her."

"I think she was the one who skipped grades all the way to high school."

"Don't be friends with her."

"Have you seen her freaky eyes?"

Sighing, Sophie sat down on the ground and picked up some rocks to fidget with. She tried not to tug out some eyelashes. She needed to spare them for later.

More than ever, she felt alone.

Maybe in her next life, she wouldn't be.

But, for now, she was.

————————

First period actually wasn't bad.

The teacher had just introduced her to the class, reviewed some stuff with her, and then gave them some homework and a worksheet to complete. Then Ms. Karina gave the students the rest of the time to socialize.

The worksheet actually wasn't difficult.  It was just some math problems that were pretty hard to type.

After she'd finished her worksheet, she brought her book out from her backpack. She had lent it from the library yesterday.

When she was getting to the good part of the book, someone tapped her on the shoulder.

Why. Did. It. Have. To. Be. During. The. Good. Part?

It was so aggravating, but she turned around.

It was a boy with green eyes and light brown hair.

"Yes?" Sophie asked, "Do you need something?"

"Sheesh, no need to be mad at me!"

"But I was at the good part of my book!"

"Nevermind that. I wanted to say hi."

"Well then, hi! Now can I go back to reading?"

"The teacher said we could socialize. Not read."

This boy was getting to Sophie's nerves.

"Fine."

"So.. what's your name!"

"Don't worry, not yours!"

"Gee. Well, I'll go first then. I'm Samuel."

"Hello."

"No applause for such a good name?"

"Nope."

"Come on, tell me your name."

"Fine! It's Sophie. Do I get any applause for my great name?"

"What? No! You didn't give me any!"

"I didn't because I knew that you weren't gonna give me any."

"What are you? A mind reader?"

Sophie froze. Did he know she was an elf?

"Hahah! Just joking."

"Well, I'll get going then."

"Where?"

"...to second period," Sophie said, motioning to the empty classroom and the teacher staring at them.

"Oh, ok! You probably got caught up talking to the amazing Samuel."

Sophie rolled her eyes. "Well... see you never!"

She walked away from the classroom as fast as she could, ignoring his answer.

Second period was a party compared to first.

They didn't even give the students worksheets.

The teacher had told them that because there was a new student in their period, they could have the time as a free period.

Kids took out their phones with a chorus of 'Mr. Johnson is the best!' and 'Get on TikTok!'

Sophie must've been behind in the human world, because she had no idea what TikTok was.

Maybe it was a timer app? But why would kids get on a timer app?

It must've been a game! Yes, that was it!

She sat down, taking out her book. The same book Samuel interrupted her on.

As she was reading the first sentence of the good part, someone tapped her shoulder.

WHAT. Was. Wrong. With. These. People?

She turned around.

"Do you need something?"

"No, actually. Do you know who this guy is?" The girl  said, showing a picture to Sophie.

"No," Sophie said, without looking at it.

"Please, he is SO cute! I'll need to get his autograph..." the girl said dreamily.

Sophie decided to take a look at it or else the girl wouldn't stop bugging her.

She stared at it. She blinked.

Again. And again. And again.

No, it couldn't be him.

There was no way.

No. Possible. Way.

She looked away. Then looked at it again.

The face was so familiar, his eyes staring back at her.

She couldn't believe it, but she had it.

The picture had a face.

And the face was Fitz's.

Sorry about the cliffhanger! But I needed an interesting way to waltz out of chapter 4.

Please let me know if you're confused!

Btw, Sophie doesn't know what TikTok is because she's been in the elvin world for a few years and TikTok was created in those few years. There is no technology in the elvin world.

I know this chapter is short, but bear with me. This is the second update of the week and only the second day! I might be able to get a chapter in daily.
