Before I even know what's going on, the bell rings and period one comes to an end. I grab my backpack and get ready to leave but not before a hand grabs my wrist.
"You can't avoid giving me your number forever." Danny jokingly speaks, lifting an eyebrow. I smile and we exchange numbers. I save him in my phone as 'Danny⚓️' and he saves me as 'MaceCar🚗'.
"I should probably get going. Second periods about to start." I say nervously.
"Ya same." He picks up his bag as I walk away. "Text me!" He adds as I head out the door.
I arrive at my period 2 pre-calculus. I don't have Danny or Garret in this class so looks like I'm going to have to make some new friends.
I sit down at a desk in the back row and before long, a girl with short dirty blonde hair and soft light blue eyes, sits in the desk to my right.
"Hey!" I decide to speak up. I'm usually not one to strike up a conversation, but I'd rather not have to go the entire period alone.
"Hi!" She replies. Her voice is soft and kind.
"Are you new here?" I ask.
"Ya. How about you?"
"Same."
"Well I'm glad I'm not the only one." She sighs with relief and stretches a smile across her pretty face. "I'm Teala."
"I'm Macie." She reaches out her hand and I shake it. We talk for a few minutes until I get cut off mid sentence when a boy with dark brown hair and green eyes walks by and knocks my binder off my desk.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry." He apologizes as he bends down to pick it up.
"It's okay. Thanks." I say after he gently places my binder back on the desk.
"Is anyone sitting here?" He asks pointing to the desk on my left.
"No, go right ahead." I tell him.
"Thanks. I'm Paul by the way."
"I'm Macie and this is Teala." I gesture towards my new friend.
"I haven't seen you around before. Are you guys new?"
"Ya." We speak in sync. The bell rings and the teacher stands up to introduce herself.
"Hello I'm Miss Laney!" We then go around the class and tell our names and our favorite food. When we get to the back row, Paul is the first to talk.
"Hi I'm Paul and I like Nutella." He smiles sweetly at the end of his short introduction and looks at me.
"Hey, I'm Macie my favorite food is pizza." I shift my attention towards Teala.
"Hello! I'm Teala and I love pancakes!"
2 other people go but my attention has been drawn to my phone because I got a text from Danny. I sneakily place it it my lap and read the text.

I told you to text me. I didn't want to be the one to awkwardly text first...😑
I smile and quickly reply.
To: Danny⚓️
Lol sucks to be you;)
I put my phone away right as the bell rings signifying the end of second period.
"See you tomorrow class!" Miss Laney exclaims as everyone grabs their bags.
"Wait Teala! I need your number girl!"
"Why of course!" Teala spits back just as sassily as we exchanged numbers.
"Don't worry, I didn't forget about you Paul." I smirk, turning to face him and he pulls out his phone. I save him as 'ThatNutellaBoy'.
I say bye to my new friends and head off to homeroom.
The first thing I notice when I walk into homeroom is Garret sitting in a desk, scrolling away on his phone.
"Hi GareBear!" I squeal as I run up and sit in the desk next to him.
"Don't call me that in school." He frowns but I can tell he wants to laugh.
"Whatever you say GareBear." He rolls his eyes at me and I continue on with my sentence. "Do you remember Danny?"
"The boy from the card?"
"Ya that one."
"What about him?"
"He goes here!"
"Ooooooooo Macie's got a boyfriend, for real this time!" He chants and pokes me in the side. I swat at his hand and flick his arm.
"We're just friends." I reply.
"Then why'd you bring him up?"
"I don't know... I just..."
"It's because you like him isn't it?"
"Shut up Garret." I say, turning to face the front of the classroom. "We're just friends."
Our homeroom teacher Mrs. Summer introduces herself and tells us all about what homeroom a going to be like. Soon enough the bell for third period rings, forcing me to part ways with Garret and head down the hall for my advanced placement English class.
"Macie!" A familiar voice calls from somewhere in the classroom as soon as I enter. I look around and realize that it's Paul.
"Hey Paul!" I greet back as I take a seat in the desk next to him. We discuss the various purposes of potatoes until the bell rings and the teacher, Mrs. Ryan, goes over what will be on the course outline for this year.
"At then end of the year there will be the AP exam, which you need to score higher than..." Her voice begins to fade away as I start to zone out. I'm brought back when my phone lights up with another text from Danny.

Lunch?
To: Danny⚓️
Sure! Meet you in the cafeteria.
I quickly shove my phone into my pocket. A small smile makes it's way across my face, and I find myself counting down the minutes until class is over.
*Ring*
"Okay class that's all for today! See everybody tomorrow!" I stand up and walked out the door with Paul.
"Wanna hang at lunch?" He asked.
"Sure! I told another friend I would meet him already, but we can all eat together. I'll meet you in the cafeteria."
"Okay see you there." I turn around, but out of the corner of my eye, I see Paul do a little air punch. He must really like lunch.
...
"Hey Garret!" I giggle, running up behind my brother who is already standing at our lockers.
"Hey, wanna eat lunch together?"
"Why of course, but I'm also going to be with a couple friends."
"Who?"
"Paul, Teala and Danny." I say Danny quiet enough so that Garret can't hear me, although I'm quite sure he still did.
Instead of choosing to make an obnoxious comment, he playfully rolls his eyes at me. I quickly click open my lock, grabbing my money so that we can make our way down to the cafeteria.

DANNYS POV
"Hey Paul." I say as Paul walks up to the table I'm at and takes a seat.
"Hey. How's your first day going? Made any new friends to replace me with yet?"
"Nah. I just met this one girl who's pretty cool though. I invited her to have lunch with us."
"Cool. I actually met a girl too that's pretty chill and I asked her to hang at lunch."
"Ooh! Does Paul have a girlfriend?!" I shout loud enough for a few heads to turn.
"No! What about that girl that you were talking about?"
"Dude she's the girl I hit with my car yesterday."
"Oh."
"Ya. Oh, wait here she comes!" I wave at Macie, who's with a girl and a boy. Wait. A boy...
"Hey Macie!" I say as she sits down beside me. "Paul, this is Macie."
"Ya I know, she's the girl I was talking about. Wait... She's the girl you hit with your car?!"
"Wait, you're Danny?" The boy who Macie brought with her asks.
"Uh..." I mumble awkwardly.
"Oh, sorry Danny, this is my brother Garret, and ya... Garret this is Danny."
"Hey man. I thought I should just let you know that my sister loves you." Garret tells me. I turn to Macie and wiggle my eyebrow at her as I seductively bite a French fry.
"Shut up Garret." Macie punches her brother in the arm and blushes while looking down at her tray. I like this Garret kid.
"And who's this?" I ask, pointing to the blonde girl sitting between Garret and Paul.
"I'm Teala." She introduces herself with probably the sweetest voice I've ever heard. She already seems like one of those people who's unbelievably nice.
"Hey, I'm Danny."
We spent most of lunch making crude jokes about each other. Macie and Teala are both really chill and down to earth. I'm super excited to see what this year had in store.
