Chapter Twenty-Four.
Sophia’s Point of View:
The moment Jazzy and Jaxon tackled me to the floor with their hugs I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been happier. Their suitcases flung to the side and they were screaming things at me so quickly I couldn’t keep up with them. All I could do was attack them back with kisses and glance up at Pattie and Jeremy who were patiently waiting to say hello to me as well.
“You guys got so big!” I exclaimed, ruffling Jaxon’s hair. “Who told you it was okay to grow up so fast?”
“Sophia I brought Spiderman!” Jaxon announced, everyone in the room rolling their eyes except me.
“Oh yeah? Well I will most certainly watch it with you Jax. I missed you.”
Justin bent down to pry him off of me so I could stand up and began to tickle him relentlessly, the sound of his laughter echoing off of the hotel walls. I really missed his family.
“What’s up with that dude?” Justin laughed, his fingers continuing to tickle him. “I don’t get a hello?”
As him and Jaxon had some bonding time I took the opportunity and hugged Pattie with the biggest hug I could possibly come up with and almost felt like crying when she pulled me closer and didn’t say a word. It seemed to be a sigh of relief when she finally let one out and pulled away from me so I could hug Jeremy too.
“It’s so good to see you Sophia. We’ve all missed you so much.”
Then I was crying and I don’t even know why. I guess I was just so happy that finally we were all back together again and Pattie pulled me in for another hug, kissing the top of my head to try and get me to stop crying.
“Oh honey, don’t cry.”
“I-I’m sorry. I just missed you guys more than you know.”
“Hey.” Justin whispered, pulling me back against his chest. “Baby it’s okay.”
Pattie and Jeremy looked at the two of us in awe almost as he kissed my cheek and looked at me to make sure I stopped crying. I don’t think he’s like this with any other girl and I think that’s why his parents were giving us the look they were. They knew just as much as I did that we were meant to be together.
“We should go get dinner.” I finally decided to say, trying to ignore my embarrassing moment. “I’m sure everyone’s hungry.”

By the time we got back Jaxon had fallen asleep in the car and Jazzy was a walking zombie, the both of them going straight into their bed so they could fall asleep. Pattie and Jeremy had invited us back to their room so we could talk some more and as Pattie carried in some cups of hot chocolate, I snuggled up to Justin as he continuously kept kissing the top of my head and whispered I love you about ten times in the last five minutes. He was ridiculous.
“It’s so wonderful to see the two of you back Sophia. I can’t even begin to tell you.”
Setting the cups of hot chocolate down onto the coffee table in front of us, she took a seat next to Jeremy and sent me another warm smile. I was so cozy snuggled up next to Justin in one of his sweatshirts and he could tell because he looked down at me on his lap and smiled, brushing some strands of hair away from my face.
“I missed her so-“
“Justin?”
All of us turned our heads over to Jazzy who was standing in her pink nightgown by the door, her stubby little fingers twirling around the edge of it. She looked frightened and all I wanted to do was hold her in my arms.
“Can you help me fall asleep? I’m scared.”
“Of course Jaz, I’ll be there in a second.”
She gave him a smile and went back into her room as I leaned up to kiss his cheek and sat up so I wasn’t on top of him anymore. I loved the bond him and his siblings had and watching him with kids was so incredible. It just made me think about Isabelle and that hurt like hell.
“I’ll be back.” He said.
Then he rose to his feet and wandered into the room where Jazzy was and I pulled my knees up to my chest, leaning over to grasp the cup of hot chocolate in my hands so I could sip gently on it. The silence wasn’t awkward but I could tell Pattie wanted to say something.
“What is it?” I asked.
“Nothing sweetie… It’s just really nice to see you with my son again. I was worried about him when you were apart although I don’t blame you. When he had told me what he done…”
She paused, letting out another sigh.
“I was beyond disappointed in him. You made my son’s life so much better I can’t even begin to tell you. I haven’t seen him in almost a month now but I can already tell he’s back to himself and that makes me so happy. You are such a special girl Sophia, you really are.”
She was honestly going to make me cry again if she kept talking like that.
“Pattie that year I was apart from him was the longest year of my entire life. Not a day went by that I didn’t think about him and whenever I would see another news article or him with another girl my heart would break even more. You know how much I loved him Pattie and I don’t want you to think even for a second that I wanted to hurt him but I just thought-“
“My son needed you out of his life to focus on what was truly important. If it were me in your position I would have done the same thing but I truly am glad you’re back into his life Sophia because you better him. Jeremy and I were so happy when we saw the picture in the paper. Is he treating you right?”
I set the cup back down onto the coffee table and cleared my throat.
“Better than ever. He’s been nothing but a gentleman.”
She probably didn’t need to hear about the club the other night and as much as that hurt me I’ve just decided to try and look past it. He did apologize and by now I’ve given him more chances than I can count so what would another one hurt?
“I’ll get those.” I said when she went to pick up the cups. “Don’t worry about it.”
When all of them were in my hands I started to head to the kitchen of their suite until I heard Jazzy laughing from the room she was in. I was debating on whether or not to give them private time but the door was cracked open so I paused and peered in to see what they were doing.
Jazzy was cuddled up right to Justin’s chest and a book was in his hand as he was reciting each page to her, his voice changing when the characters did. Like when a girl talked his voice would go all high pitched and I couldn’t help but get tears in my eyes because this was what could have been. Isabelle would almost be two and a half years old right now and she would probably love for Justin to cuddle with her.
“And then the dragon growled, causing everyone in the town to stare.” He said and then he growled, Jazzy erupting into laughter as he tickled her. The tears were streaming down my cheeks and I think he must have heard me sniffle because he glanced towards the door and I quickly walked away so I could wash the dishes.
I’m not sure why I was crying. I was literally sobbing but I was trying to be quiet so no one could hear me. God, I missed Isabelle even though I never met her. I wanted to be a mother and I especially wanted Justin to be a father. He wanted to be a father more than anything in his entire life and I took that away from him.
Why did that have to happen? Why did we have to lose her? If we hadn’t lost her everything would be completely fine. We never would have been apart for a year and we would be the happy family we’ve always wanted to be. I don’t understand why things happen the way they do.
“Baby were you just-“
I completely broke down when I looked at him and ran into his arms so he could hold me. I needed his arms around me to feel even slightly better and it was like he knew why I was upset because he just rubbed up and down my back and kissed the top of my hair as he rocked me back and forth to get me to calm down.
“It’s okay Sophia.” He soothed. “One day it’ll happen for us. We just have to wait.”
“I-I just miss her. I know you want to be a dad and I want to be a mom but things are just so confusing right now. Life sucks so bad and I just want God to make things right, you know?”
“He is making things right. You’re here in my arms right now, aren’t you?”
He pulled away from me for a second and I looked up at him to let him know that I understood. Justin was completely right and God is working things out because we’re together right now and the two of us are in love like we always should be.
“I’m sorry for crying. It’s just that when I saw you and Jazzy it just reminded me of-“
“I know baby but you don’t have to worry about crying in front of me. I made a commitment when I married you and I will always be right here to wipe away every single tear that you shed.”
“Yeah when we were actually-“
“We’re still married.” He whispered, wiping away my tears. “I never signed baby and that means technically you’re still mine. This divorce isn’t finalized and it’s not going to be because when we’re better again and when you trust me again I’m going to get down on one knee for the second time and ask you to marry me again. I mean that.”
“Yeah?” I sniffled. “Really?”
“Mhm. You’re mine sweetheart and I’m keeping you. I don’t ever want you in the arms of someone else.”
And by now I stopped crying and nodded my head against his chest as I let him rock me back and forth, both of our breathing slowing down until I finally pulled away and crossed my arms over my chest.
“Do you want to go back to our hotel room sweetheart? Get some sleep?”
“Well your parents invited us here babe. I’m sure they want to talk or-“
“They’ll understand.” He whispered. “Let me just go tell them what’s going on and we’ll go to our room. I want to take care of my girl.”
“My girl.” I repeated. “I love that.”
“And I love you baby.”
Kissing my nose, he squeezed my hand once more before he wandered out of the kitchen, leaving me alone to wonder how I got so damn lucky to have such an incredible man like him in my life.
