The One With The Sacrifice Pt. 1

It had been around twenty minutes since Emily found out that the feared and jackass of a hybrid was planning on to use her own twin sister as his vampire in the sacrifice. The Gilbert twins were currently sitting on the hard ground in the middle of Steven's Quarry with their hands tightly gripping the other as they tried to comfort each other during the worst time of their lives.

It was about the twenty-two minute mark when Emily finally controlled her sobbing enough to be able to speak to her sister. "What even happened?" The Gilbert girl asked what she had been wanting to ask since Elena had explained what had happened for her to end up in this position. "How did he turn Jenna and get ahold of you?" Emily continued her interrogation with a confused expression shining across her dull and exhausted face.

Emily honestly didn't know how this could have happened. She thought everyone was being safe since they knew Klaus was out there and could be very unpredictable and dangerous from the stories that they have heard from Rose and Elijah. However, Emily knew a lot could have happened since Klaus had taken her and mistakes could have been made - not to mention, Klaus did like his games.

Emily definitely didn't blame her sister, though. Hell, she would have done the exact same thing for Jenna since their aunt had just barely been introduced into their crazy world of vampires, witches, werewolves, and hybrids.

The Gilbert vampire released a deep sigh of regret as she slowly shook her head. "It was right after we went to the movies and I think you said you were going to go see Jeremy. Jenna and I were on our way back to our house to pick up some clothes since Stefan thought it would be best for all us to stay at the boarding house," Elena explained to her twin sister about what had happened before she pointed towards the witch a few yards in front of them. "Klaus had Greta use her magic to hold me down while he forced his blood into Jenna's mouth," Elena concluded with tears clouding her brown irises.

"I-I couldn't do anything!" The Gilbert vampire cried out in frustration from the fact that she hadn't been able to stop Klaus from turning her aunt. Elena felt so much regret that she couldn't do a better job at protecting Jenna. She felt as if she failed as she couldn't even do this one thing when her twin sister was practically fighting for her life.

"H-He made me choose," Elena continued to recall what had happened hours prior with tears trailing down her cold skin. "He said it would be me or Jenna," the Gilbert vampire explained before she hurriedly shook her head. "I couldn't do that Jenna," Elena mumbled, "Jenna doesn't deserve to be pushed into this life only to be killed a second later."

Emily released a heartbreaking sigh as she stared across at her twin sister with silent tears sliding down her cheeks from hearing what had happened earlier today. The Gilbert girl couldn't help but feel guilty as she realized that this happened when she was saying goodbye to everyone. However, Emily had to remind herself that Klaus would have still decided to use someone she loved if she had been there and maybe she wouldn't have gotten her last sweet goodbye with Stefan.

Emily could see that her twin sister was tearing herself apart over the fact that their aunt was now a vampire, so the Gilbert girl decided to focus on that. Emily pulled the brunette vampire back into her arms as she softly ran her fingers through her sister's hair. "You don't deserve this either, Elena," the Gilbert girl mumbled after she placed a soft kiss onto her sister's temple.

The two sisters sat there on the hard ground with their arms protectively wrapped around one another in a heartbreaking silence with only the sound of their loud sobs trailing through the air. However, once the crying had came to a slow stop, the Gilbert vampire looked down to her twin before she confessed, "I'm scared." Elena shook her head before she stated, "I know this might sound selfish or self centered when you have been going through all of this, but I never thought I would have to die."

Emily instantly gave her sister's hand a tight squeeze as to comfort her. "It's going to be okay," the Gilbert girl softly murmured. It was honestly the only thing Emily could say in this moment. She didn't have any master plans or strategies when she was still in shock that her twin sister was here with her right now. The only thing that Emily could do was to have faith that she was going to get her sister out of here alive.

"Is it, though?" The Gilbert vampire quietly inquired with her brows pulled together. Elena shook her head before she told her sister, "I don't have any potion or life line like you do, Em." The Gilbert vampire squeezed her brown eyes closed as she could feel the tears building up again before she whispered with fear all throughout her voice, "I-I'm really going to die."

The human Petrova doppelganger immediately looked over to her twin sister with a look of determination on her face. "No," Emily exclaimed as she shook her head, "no, you are not." The Gilbert girl gave Elena's hand another squeeze as she told her twin, "we are going to fight this, okay?" Emily waited until the anxious vampire slowly nodded her head before the human girl continued, "you are not allowed to give up, you hear me? Klaus does not get to win today."

It would be a cold day in hell before Emily would allow her sister or herself to just give up like Elena was already doing. Emily didn't care if she had to go through millions of Klaus', she wasn't going to lay back just because it was difficult. Emily was going to fight like hell. Hey, Emily was going to die anyways, so might as well go out fighting.

The Gilbert vampire released a shaky breath as she leaned the side of her wet cheek onto her jean covered knee. Elena honestly didn't really have any faith that she would survive as she knew without a doubt that Klaus was going to kill her. There was just no way out of this. However, as Elena glanced over to her determined twin, she knew that she couldn't give up. Elena was going to fight and believe that she could survive this for Emily's sake. It was least that she could do for her twin sister.

Elena released one last deep breath against her knee before the Gilbert vampire looked back up to her twin sister. "Okay," Elena murmured in agreement to the human girl's plan with frightened tears clouding her brown irises before she quietly affirmed, "we're going to be okay."

Emily silently nodded her head before she muttered her reassurance, "we'll be fine." The Gilbert girl, however, didn't know if that was actually going to be true at all. Emily just had this bad feeling in her chest that wouldn't go away no matter how many times that she thought positively. But that wasn't going to stop the Gilbert girl. Emily was going to do everything in her power to make sure that her twin sister got out of this. Elena was not going to die tonight.

The Gilbert twins sat in a quiet and tense silence while they closely hugged one another as they tried to comfort each other before Klaus showed up and ruined everything by killing either one or both of the sisters. However, the tranquility between the sisters soon came to an end when Greta loudly began to walk towards the duo.

Emily was the first one to take notice of the witch as Elena had her head in the crook of her neck. The Gilbert girl's green eyes slightly widened before she got control of her emotions as she quickly pulled Elena to stand up with her. "Stay behind me and don't move," Emily ordered her twin as she pushed the Gilbert vampire behind her while she tightly held onto Elena's wrist.

"You don't have to do this, you know," Emily told the witch once Greta was standing a few feet in front of them. The Gilbert girl decided it was worth a shot to see if she could talk through to Greta to see if she would at least leave Elena out of this. "We can all just leave," Emily uttered as she carelessly waved her hand while she tried to convince the witch that she didn't have to do this. The Gilbert girl lightly shrugged her shoulders before she commented, "Klaus is just using you, anyway."

Greta instantly released a loud and amused chuckle at the human Petrova doppelganger's assumptions. "No, sweetheart," the witch began as she shook her head before Greta corrected the Gilbert girl, "Klaus and I help each other." Greta shot the human girl a wide smirk before she concluded, "so, no. I can't just let you leave when he's been waiting for this day for centuries."

The Gilbert girl immediately came to realize that her words weren't going to be able to convince Greta to let them go by the way that she seemed determined to help Klaus become a true hybrid, so Emily decided to settle for violence instead.

The human Petrova doppelganger released a heavy sigh and silently nodded her head as if she was being understanding to what Greta had to do before she suddenly used her other hand - the one that wasn't holding onto Elena's wrist - and swung her fist right at the center of the witch's face.

Emily didn't wait around once she had punched Greta on the button of her nose before the Gilbert girl hurriedly pulled her twin sister with her while she anxiously shouted, "run!"

However, sadly, before Elena could use her vamp speed to get herself and her sister out of the quarry, she was suddenly stopped as she felt as her body was being flung away from Emily before the Gilbert vampire felt a warmness completely surround her. "No!" Elena shouted in panic once she had opened her brown eyes and had realized that she was surrounded by fire with no way to get out or get to her twin sister.

Greta didn't even react or flinch to the cries that were coming from the vampire as she angrily stomped towards the human Petrova doppelganger with a loud growl falling from the back of her throat. "I can't wait until Klaus finally gets rid of you," Greta snarled as she tightly grasped onto Emily's arm and made pain shoot all through her body. "You are a pain in the ass," Greta muttered as she pulled the Gilbert girl until she was a few feet away from her sister before Greta tossed Emily to the ground and instantly lit the second ring of fire around the doppelganger.

The Gilbert girl immediately released a groan out of relief and from the residue pain that the witch had caused her body. Emily stared up at the dark sky as she rolled around on the ground while she waited for the stinging to leave her system before she slowly pushed herself up onto her feet.

Emily, however, couldn't help but immediately frown once she finally noticed that she surrounded all around by a couple of feet of fire. "What the hell," the Gilbert girl mumbled to herself before she curiously lifted her black heeled boot to step over the fire. However, Emily quickly jumped back, though, when the flames swiftly rose up to her calves.

"Don't even try it," Greta snarled at the human Petrova doppelganger as she had been silently watching Emily before she informed the brunette, "I spelled the circle." Greta shot the Gilbert girl a wide smirk before she cockily stated, "you're trapped, little girl. You ain't going anywhere until Klaus comes for you."

The Gilbert girl instantly growled towards the witch as she felt so frustrated from the fact that she couldn't move. However, Emily's green irises slowly softened, though, when she looked over Greta's shoulder and noticed that Elena was sobbing in her own circle. Emily didn't want her twin sister to have to go through this, so Emily decided to try to get through to Greta, once more.

"Please, Greta," the Gilbert girl changed her tune as she begged instead of being angry. "You just need me. You don't need my sister," Emily tried to convince the witch before she suddenly remembered something that she could use. "You have a brother! Luka!" The Gilbert girl shouted as she remembered the young warlock and their father, who had tried to kill her to get Greta back from the hybrid. "I know you care about him and I know you would want to get him out of this if he was here right now!" Emily stated as she tried to touch Greta's heart with her family, "so, please don't do this to my sister."

Greta released a loud scoff before she rolled her dark eyes at the human Petrova doppelganger. "My family are dead to me," the witch snapped before she slowly turned around and headed towards the Gilbert vampire as she carelessly added, "besides, it's not my choice. Klaus gave her the option and this was her decision."

"Greta, please!" The Gilbert vampire immediately cried out as she slowly backed away as far as she could from the witch without the fire burning her. "You don't have to do this!" Elena joined in with her sister with trying to convince Greta with a slight panic to her brown eyes as she didn't know what Greta was about to do to her.

Greta, once again, ignored the cries of the Gilbert vampire as she released an amused chuckle. "You can relax," the witch told Elena with a wide smirk playing on her lips before Greta informed the vampire, "we still have to wait for the man of the hour, but don't you worry, you'll be dead just like your sister very soon." Greta stayed in her spot for a few seconds more as she found it amusing how panicked the vampire looked before she swiftly turned around and headed back towards the altar to go over the extremely important spell once more.

Emily immediately became worried for her twin sister, once again, as she could see just how badly Elena was handling all of this. The Gilbert girl swore that if her sister was still human, she would be having a full blown panic attack right now. "Elena!" The eldest Gilbert called out as she tried to get Elena to focus onto her instead of the thoughts in her mind, "Elena, look at me!"

"I-I can't do this!" The Gilbert vampire cried out as she began to pace the small circle while sobs continued to leave her body. Elena was lost in her anxieties that she hadn't even heard that her twin sister was calling out to her. Elena was just so panicked over the fact that she was about to die tonight.

"Lena," the Gilbert girl tried to get her sister's attention but in a more calmer tone, "you're going to be okay." Emily instantly shot the brunette vampire a small smile when Elena finally focused onto her. "Just take a deep breath for me, okay?" The Gilbert girl gently requested as she just tried to get her sister to calm down.

Elena hurriedly and shakily nodded her head as she tried to follow along to her sister's instructions and tried to relax. It took quite a bit of time, but finally, after a solid three minutes, Elena took a deep breath before she whispered to let Emily know that she was, in fact, calming down, "okay."

"Good girl," Emily complimented her twin as she knew that this was really difficult for Elena. The human Petrova doppelganger silently took a seat on the ground as close as she could to the fire without it burning her before she calmly requested as she nodded her head towards the fire as to tell Elena to take a seat as well, "just relax for me."

Elena shakily and slowly dropped down onto her jean covered knees before she planted her bottom into the grass at Steven's Quarry and anxiously wrapped her arms around her knees as she brought them closely to her chest. The Gilbert vampire, however, could only follow one of Emily's requests as loud sobs continued to rack through her body. "I'm scared," Elena whispered after a moment as she slowly brought her teary brown eyes up to look over to her twin sister.

"I know," Emily whispered back with a sad and small smile playing on her lips as she watched as her sister tried to control her sobs. "I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you from this," the Gilbert girl mumbled in disappointment as she looked down to her fingers and avoided Elena's gaze before she released a heavy sigh. "This is my fault. I should have made sure that you were safe before I left earlier," Emily muttered as she felt guilty that she didn't protect her twin better from Klaus when she knew the hybrid was extremely dangerous if Katherine's story about what he did to her family was any indication.

"Hey," the Gilbert vampire called out to her twin sister, despite her own sorrows, before she exclaimed with a deep frown embedded onto her face, "this isn't your fault." Elena shook her head before she stated, "we didn't know this was his plan." The Gilbert vampire then briefly glanced over to the witch as she was afraid Greta would hear her before Elena added in a whisper, "not even Elijah thought he would do this."

Emily released a huff of breath before she mumbled as she knew her sister was right, "I know." The Gilbert girl silently closed her green eyes as she tried to get rid of the guilt that she felt at the moment from not protecting Elena or Jenna better - even thought she knew that had been out of her control - as she decided to focus solely onto her twin sister, who was having a hard time right now.

Emily took a deep breath as she reigned in her own emotions before she opened her green irises and stared over to the Gilbert vampire. "How are you feeling?" The Gilbert girl gently questioned as she shot Elena a soft smile as to help keep her calm, "you doing okay, right?"

The Gilbert vampire slowly shook her head as hot tears continued to carelessly flow down the sides of her tan cheeks. "I don't want to die!" Elena cried out and ranted about how she was feeling at the moment with a panicked look expressed through her brown eyes, "I-I just started to like being a v-vampire. But it's all about to be ripped away from me."

"I know," the human Petrova doppelganger mumbled with tears clouding her own irises as she hated that her twin sister was having to go through this. However, Emily wasn't just going to give up because she ran into a surprising roadblock. Emily swore to herself that she was going to keep her sister alive, so the Gilbert girl ignored all of the pain and sadness that she felt before she stood up from her spot in the grass and called out in a deadly serious voice, "Elena."

The human Petrova doppelganger waited until her twin sister looked over to her before she confidently exclaimed, "you aren't going to die. I always, always, protect my family - you know that." Emily swiftly shook her head before she added to hopefully give Elena some assurance during a horrible time, "I'm not going to let Klaus hurt you."

However, Emily's words, sadly, didn't do anything to comfort the Gilbert vampire as Elena hurriedly shook her head with tears continuing to trail down her face like a waterfall. "We tried, Emmie," the Gilbert vampire mumbled with sadness tripping all throughout her voice before she muttered in defeat, "but we can't stop him." Elena was at the point of just giving up as she knew there was absolutely nothing that she or Emily could do when they were practically just waiting for Klaus to kill them.

"No, fuck that!" Emily instantly shouted with an angry tint to her green irises from the fact that her twin sister was planning on giving up. The Gilbert girl pointed to Elena as she exclaimed, "you are not allowed to quit." Emily briefly closed her green eyes as she realized that she was letting her emotions get the better of her. The Gilbert girl knew that wasn't going to help Elena at the moment, so she took a deep breath before she opened her eyes and looked to her sister with a softer expression.

"You got to fight through all the doubt, Lena," the soon-to-be Radkova witch stated in a gentler tone, "I have never given up, so you aren't allowed to either." Emily shot the Gilbert vampire a soft smile before she uttered with as much emotion as she could put into a simple sentence, "you need to believe that you can survive this."

Emily honestly wasn't sure that her twin sister could survive from all that she knew about the feared hybrid and what he had done to the Petrova family in the past. However, though, the last thing on Emily's mind was giving up when her twin sister's life was on the line, so the Gilbert girl pushed all that doubt to the back of her mind and she mentally promised that she would stop at nothing to get Elena out of here.

The Gilbert vampire silently stared across at her twin sister for a few tense moments before Elena finally and slowly nodded her head in agreement as she tried to wipe all of the tears from her cheeks. "Okay," Elena mumbled as she trusted her twin sister and trusted that she knew what she was doing - it wasn't like she had many options at this point - before she quietly inquired, "what's the plan?"

The Gilbert girl couldn't help but immediately smile from the fact that Elena wasn't just giving up before Emily happily murmured, "that's my sister."

Emily knew that she needed to come up with a good plan, so she didn't give her curious twin another look as she began to slowly pace around in her ring of fire. The Gilbert girl continued that for a few minutes as she tried to think of a plan on the spot before she faced Elena when she came up with an idea. "Alright," Emily muttered as she clapped her hands together before she asked the Gilbert vampire as her brain started to spin with a plan, "do you remember when Damon told us about vampires turning off their emotions?"

Elena furrowed her brows slightly as she stared over at her twin sister. "Uh, yeah," the Gilbert vampire mumbled with a tint of confusion in her voice as to why Emily was bringing that up before she recalled about what her boyfriend had told her and her twin once upon of time, "vampires can flip a switch to stop feeling anything."

"Right," the Gilbert girl muttered as she affirmed what her sister thought while she also nodded her head. "You won't be able to focus if all you are feeling is fear right now," Emily explained her logic before she told Elena her master plan of getting her out of here, "so, I want you to just turn it off. I don't want you to be worried about me or afraid of Klaus when he comes." Emily gave her twin sister a meaningful expression that showed just how serious she was about this before she ordered, "I need you to be selfish and escape when you have the chance, okay?"

Elena's brown eyes instantly widened in complete shock from what her sister wanted her to do. "What!" The Gilbert vampire gaped before she hurriedly shook her head as she cried out, "no! I can't do that to you!" Elena refused to even think about Emily's plan as tears, once again, began to flow down her cheeks as she sobbed, "I-I can't leave you behind. You're my sister."

"Yes, you will, Elena," the Gilbert girl immediately argued back with that Petrova fire soaring through her voice. "I will not let the past repeat its self like it did with Katherine and Darina," the human girl stated as she recalled how Klaus had killed Darina because of what Maria had done to stop the sacrifice from happening.

Emily had to force herself to take a deep breath to calm her emotions down before she softly murmured to her twin as she reminded Elena in a quiet voice as to not give away their plan to Greta, "we all know I will be okay." The Gilbert girl then released a heavy sigh before she added as they had no clue Klaus would take someone important to her, "but this wasn't apart of it." Emily shot the Gilbert vampire a pleading look as concluded, "so, you need to forget everything and only focus on you and get the hell out of here."

Elena released a shaky deep breath and silently nodded her head as she knew that her twin sister was right. The Gilbert vampire knew that she wouldn't be able to do anything if her emotions were heightened with all the fears and worries that were swimming through her head. Elena hated the idea of turning off her emotions when something could end up happening to her sister, but the Gilbert vampire knew it was her only chance at surviving all of this.

"Okay," Elena finally whispered as she stared over to her twin sister, "I'll do it."

The Gilbert girl let out a sigh of relief from the fact that Elena was going to follow along with her plan to protect her before Emily murmured, "okay, good." The Gilbert girl silently nodded her head as she continued to murmur, mostly to herself, "that's good. We can work with that." The human Petrova doppelganger then soon began to quietly pace up and down the small space of her ring of fire as she tried to think of what Elena needed to do along with how she was going to distract Klaus or Greta so her twin sister could make her escape to safety.

The Gilbert vampire had silently watched her twin sister for a couple of minutes but as the time continued to pass them by, the more the fear came back to the front of Elena's mind. "I'm gonna die," Elena whispered as the waterworks quickly began to fall from her brown irises and loud sobs shook her body.

The hard thinking and plotting Gilbert girl instantly turned around and stopped her pacing when she heard the sound of her twin sister's cries. "Lena, focus!" Emily called out to the Gilbert vampire before she tried to comfort her twin as much as she could without being able to hold her, "you know I'm not gonna let that happen to you." The Gilbert girl lightly shrugged her shoulders before she commented and concluded in that strong Petrova voice, "I'm going to die anyway, so I will do whatever I can to make sure you get out of here."

However, luckily, before Elena could get any more anxious than she already was at the moment about her looming death and facing off against the feared hybrid, the Gilbert twins were soon interrupted when there was suddenly a loud crunching sound of a branch breaking in the deadly silent quarry.

The sibling with the supernatural hearing quickly followed the sound before Elena instantly furrowed her brows when she took notice of the body on the ground that she had definitely not seen when she had originally woken up at the quarry. "Isn't that the wolf that wanted Tyler?" The Gilbert vampire quietly inquired as she tried to remember where she had seen the familiar dirty blonde woman before.

Emily quickly followed her sister's brown eyes before she released a small sigh when she realized who Elena was looking at. "Yeah, that's Jules," the Gilbert girl muttered before she recalled what the Lockwood werewolf had shared with her earlier today while she curiously watched as Greta approached the aforementioned wolf, "she was traveling through Mystic Falls with Tyler and their pack."

Greta ignored the two pairs of green and brown eyes on her as she quickly grabbed a hold of the werewolf's upper arm once she realized that the dirty blonde was awake from the loud sounds of her sobbing and groaning. The hybrid's witch carelessly pulled the third piece of the sacrifice towards the last ring of fire. Greta pulled the slightly heavy wolf for about three feet before she pushed Jules into the final circle and took a step back to prepare the last step before the sacrifice would begin.

The dirty blonde wolf instantly released a loud groan when she felt all of her body weight practically fall onto her right shoulder from the fact that she had no control over her body. "What's happening to me?" Jules confusingly questioned as she glanced up to the unfamiliar woman standing above her.

"I cast a spell to slow down your transformation," Greta simply explained to the werewolf as if she was explaining how to make a three step recipe of chocolate chip cookies, "your insides are trying to tear themselves free." The witch couldn't help but roll her brown irises when the wolf stared to howl in pain. She wanted to end this interaction as soon as possible, so Greta took three small steps back before she lifted up her hand and twisted her wrist - which caused for the final ring of fire to surround the last component of the sacrifice.

The Gilbert girl had watched Greta all through her conversation with Jules until the witch had walked up to her alter of some sort before Emily decided that she needed to distract the witch or get her really frustrated - which she had seen happen already at Klaus' temporary house - so she wouldn't be focused on Elena when she would make her escape.

"Greta!" The human Petrova doppelganger called out to the witch, "you know what you are doing isn't right!" Emily waited until Greta had turned around and looked over at her with an annoyed expression, like she wanted, before the Gilbert girl tauntingly questioned with her right eyebrow raised, "aren't you, as a witch, supposed to protect people, not vampires, you know - you're enemy?"

Greta rolled her brown eyes for the second time in the last few minutes as she stared towards the human Petrova doppelganger while she crossed her arms over her black varsity jacket. "This isn't the old days, anymore," Greta snapped, "witches don't care about their covens and the humans when they all just end up betraying you." The witch carelessly shrugged her shoulders before she concluded with a look of confidence and arrogance that left zero room for arguments, "I'm only loyal to Klaus."

The Gilbert girl couldn't help but release a heavy and disheartened sigh as she realized that Greta was one stubborn witch along with the fact that it physically pained her chest to hear that Greta had abandoned the way of life of a witch by protecting the innocent - something that Emily had just barely began to understand from her doppelganger and the witch, who's powers were currently sparking through her veins.

However, before the Gilbert girl could continue to either try to convince Greta to stop the sacrifice all together or just piss her off even more as a distraction, she was all too soon interrupted by the devil himself.

"Glad to know I still have a dance partner," the cocky and arrogant hybrid hollered through the vast clearing at Steven's Quarry as he strutted towards the heart of the sacrifice. Klaus shot his witch a thankful but barely noticeable smile to show his appreciation that he could at least trust someone to stay loyal to him. The feared hybrid then slowly turned his attention onto his human, vampire, and werewolf. "Hello, my lovelies," Klaus greeted the three women with a wide and excited smirk pulled onto his lips before he asked, "are we ready?"
