"If people had anthems, mine would be Waterfalls by TLC." Chase says, sipping his Iced Coffee.
"Why's that?" Jonah chuckles.
"Think about it. Don't gooo chaaasing waterfallls... See? Chasing Waterfalls? Chase Waters? It's dope." He nods proudly.
"Creative." I give him a sarcastic nod.
"The sass, I could do without." He rolls his eyes at me.
"Your stupidity, I could do without. But shit doesn't always work out now, does it?" I mock him.
"You're a witch." Chase says.
"YoUre a wiTCh." I mock him.
"I'm so glad I don't have siblings." Denis laughs.
"So what should we do today? I'm bored." Kate groans and punches the punching bag in Jonah's room playfully.
"We should go to the beach." Seth suggests.
"Ooo that would be fun." Cole nods.
"Not so fast." Savvy says, walking into Jonah's room.
"Oh hey!" I beam when I see her.
"Hey kids." Savvy grins, greeting everyone in the room. "What have ya'll been doing?"
"Just chilling. We're trying to come up with something. You got ideas?" Jonah asks her.
"Many, but we'll execute them another time. Today, I'm taking Kate and Annika and we're having a girl's day. You guys can do whatever... boys do." She grimaces and drags me and Kate to the door.
"Wait no, that's not fair, come on..." Chase waves his hands in the air.
"Stop whining and figure something out. Ciao!" Kate waves and we leave Jonah's room. We walk downstairs and to the door.
"Girl's day?" I raise my eyebrow at Savvy.
"Mmm... More like 'try to get Annika out of trouble that she voluntarily threw herself in' day." She glares at me.
"Oof, I've had a lot of those." Kate nudges me.
"Ha ha, whatever. Let's do this." I say and go outside.
The weather is freakishly warm and sunny so we decide to go to the beach first. We run to my house so Kate and I can get our bathing suits and stuff and we head there right away. We stop and get iced coffees on the way and then sit down at the beach and try to come up with solutions as we tan. Savvy tells us everything. Her, Carrie, Jonah and Shawn went to the same High School. She tells us that she never liked Carrie and that Jonah was blinded by her manipulative bitch actions.
"She's like a tick. The bitch won't fucking leave." Kate rolls her eyes.
"Exactly. This is the first time she's ever volunteered giving up Melch on her own terms." Savvy taps her chin, looking into the distance.
"Doesn't that mean that she has something up her sleeve? I mean, if nothing can get rid of her, why would she offer Annika a race if she knew there was even a slight chance she'd lose?" Kate asks.
"Exactly. You have two choices here Annika. We can either get you out of it-"
"No." I interrupt her. "Jonah shouldn't have to deal with her. If this is the only way she'll give it up, I want that for him. I wanna do this for him." I interrupt Savvy.
Jonah has told me that he wants Carrie out of his life more than anything. Solutions are limited. There isn't really much legal action he can take against her, since it could cost him Melcher Drive. He can't sue her or get a restraining order either. Melch is an illegal business. Jonah's tough and he doesn't let anyone cross him, but there isn't much he can do when the opposition is a girl. He would never hit a girl or do anything that would cause her harm. He's pretty much stuck with her. If me racing her means she'll go away, I'm willing to do that not just for myself, but for him also.
"Girl omg." Kate rolls her eyes.
"Don't omg me!" I nudge her.
"You don't know the first thing about racing!" She screeches.
"So I'll learn!" I say.
"How?" Kate says.
"Savvy...." I give her puppy eyes.
"Oh no... no no no no." She shakes her head.
"Come on!" I beg.
"No way." She shakes her head again.
"Listen but you're all I have right now! It's not like I can ask Jonah?!" I squeal.
"How am I supposed to just magically teach you how to race? Besides, I'm leaving in two days." She says.
"And what if you stayed? Come on it's summer why are you in a rush anyway?" I beg.
"Annika..." Savvy glares at me.
"Please please please!" I pout.
"Ugh... you know what fine. I'll stay for two more weeks until the race." She says and I jump over, hugging her and knocking her over.
"You're the best." I screech.
"Okay starting tomorrow we'll practice." She says.
We started today though, cause we got bored. We took the mustang Jonah gave me and went to this underground tunnel. Savvy said that's where she used to practice before she moved. She helped me practice acceleration for now.
"Your foot should already be ready when they say go. You gun it, drop it to the floor, just go for it. Don't be scared of the car." She explains.
"Got it." I nod and try it again.
"Give me an A! Give me an N!" Kate's cheering me on from the side while drinking a strawberry smoothie.
For a few hours we just work on the beginning part of the race. The distance is small but so much could happen, it's crazy.
"Good. Practice this everyday and you'll be golden." Savvy gives me a high five as I get out of the car.
"My tan lines are so off holy fuck." Kate groans as she looks at the white strap tan lines on her shoulders.
"To each their own." I giggle.
My phone begins to buzz in my back pocket and I slide it out. It's Jonah.
"Shhhhttttttt." I shush Savvy who's revving the engine for fun into different tempos and Kate's twerking on the side.
"Hello?" I ask into the phone.
"Hey Annika." Jonah says. Yeah he's with Chase.
Annika these nuts, my name's babe or gorgeous.
"Hey Jonah." I reciprocate the friendliness in case I'm on speaker.
"You mean Daddy?" Kate mouths and her and Savvy burst into laughter. I give them a middle finger and turn around.
"Are Kate and Savvy with you?" He asks.
"Yeah." I answer.
"Put me on speaker." He says and I do so.
"Where are you guys?" I hear Chase's voice from the back. Yup, I am on speaker.
"My great aunt Muriel's ranch." Kate responds.
"Hilarious, Bellucci." Chase mocks.
"Anyways, Shawn's brother has a bar opening tonight. You guys wanna go?" Jonah asks.
"Yeah why not." I shrug.
"Maybe Savvy and Shawn will finally get it on." Kate wiggles her eyebrows.
"Oo I'd like to see that." I laugh.
"Shut up whores. Yeah we're down, what time?" Savvy says into the phone.
"Well right now it's five so... I don't know like seven?" Chase asks. "Oh and dress casual."
"Okay we'll meet you there, send the addy." I say and hang up.
In about ten seconds after hanging up, I get a text from Jonah. It's just a black heart. I smile and reply with a white heart.
"Oooo wanky." Savvy wiggles her eyebrows.
"Speaking of which, I had the best sex last night." I clap. "Five times." I grin.
"So did I but mine was only twice. Denis blacked out. But tell us the juice!" Kate beams and I tell them the details as we go back to the suburbs.
We drive by Savvy's house and then Kate's so they can pick up their stuff and then we go to my house to get ready.
"Sav, I gotta ask..." I say as I straighten the last piece of my hair. "Does Jonah tell you about our sex and stuff? Like details?" I ask her.
She's awesome and it doesn't bother me that she's Jonah's best friend... But I do like privacy.
"Oh hell no." She shakes her head. "When he first met you he told me about how hot you are and all of that. Then later added how amazing your personality is. But after yall got together he barely talks about it. He just praises you, he doesn't tell me what you guys talk about or do though. He's pretty private about that stuff." She says.
I smile and nod. I know girl best friends and guy best friends are hard to deal with, but I don't get that vibe from Savvy. It seems like they genuinely have this sibling type relationship and if anything, I'm happy they have each other. I'll admit, I'm a jealous person , but Savvy doesn't worry me. In fact, she's one of the sweetest people I know.
"Does this bra make my boobs look humongous or what?" Kate walks out of the bathroom in her turquoise pushup bra and gives us a nice twirl.
"Top fucking notch." Savvy claps.
"I'd fuck you right here right now if I were Denis." I wink.
"Oh... right." Kate huffs and puts a white body suit on with spaghetti straps.
"What's that about?" I raise my eyebrow.
"I don't know... I like Denis I mean he's so great. I just feel like I'm missing out. I miss body shots and grinding at random people on the dance floor or talking to some guy I don't have to deal with the next morning." She frowns, clipping two front strings of hair together at the back of her head.
"Haven't you done enough of that already, though?" I ask.
"Yeah but I'm only 18. Denis is already thinking about the future and I'm just not there yet." She shrugs.
"Did you tell him that?" Savvy asks, slipping a navy blue sundress on.
"No... He'd freak." Kate says, pushing her ass into black jeans.
"The only reason why he would freak is cause he adores you. Kate, I've known Denis for a very long time and he's always been obsessed with you. The dude has girls drooling over him and he never cared about any of them. It's always been you over anyone else." I say and put on mascara.
"Ugh, I adore him too. I just don't know if I adore him enough to throw my life away like that." Kate shrugs.
"Can you honestly tell me that grinding on dudes is better than what you have with Denis?" I roll my eyes.
"Tell me how you feel about Jonah and maybe I'll answer your question. I wanna know if this is how I'm supposed to feel when I'm with someone. I wanna know if I'm doing it right." Kate begs me.
"There's no right or wrong here, Kate. It's the feeling of safety and comfort in the person. When something bad happens, I wanna tell Jonah. When something good happens, I wanna tell Jonah. Every time I see him I calm down and I want to kiss him and hug him and ugh... everything. I can't get enough of him. I could spend hours and days and weeks with him and I wouldn't get bored." I say. "Is that how you feel about Denis?" I ask.
Kate stares at me and before she can answer, Savvy waves her phone in the air.
"Uber's here." She says.
"Whew." Kate beams.
"Saved by the bell." I roll my eyes.
"Annika you're not even dressed." Savvy says.
"Sorry sorry give me one sec." I say and run into my closet.
"What are you wearing?" She calls out.
"I have this dark green sundress I wanna wear." I say and slip it on. It's flowy and thin and I don't think I'll be hot in it. I put on my forces and go out into the room. "Well?" I ask and twirl.
"Beautiful." Savvy says.
"Mamma mia." Kate beams.
"You too. Let's go." I laugh and we leave.
We took an Uber because we're planning on drinking. Shawn's brother has been working on this bar for a while and tonight's the grand opening so we are gonna go there. Obviously, they won't card us and even if they do, we all have fake's.
"Hello ladies, looking good as always." Cole smiles at us as we walk in.
"Stop simping Offenbach." Seth flicks him in the head.
"Simping? He has a girlfriend doofus." Kate furrows her eyebrows.
"Yeah, about that, lol." Cole laughs. "It's over."
"What? What happened?" I gasp. Not gonna lie, I never liked Bianca so this isn't really a bad thing.
"She's just... her." Cole laughs.
"Touche." Kate and I say in unison.
"Hey gorgeous." Jonah whispers in my ear as I stand next to him.
"Hey pretty boy." I whisper back.
"I missed you today." He says. "What did you guys do?"
Ope, moment of truth...
"Nothing, just hung out." I say and smile.
Sike, lol.
"Annika..." I spot Luke walking through the crowd.
"You've gotta be kidding me." Jonah groans.
"Be nice." I nudge him. "Zakowski! Hey!" I beam and give him a hug.
"How are you?" Luke chuckles.
"Good. So good. You uh... you know... Jonah." I say awkwardly and look back and forth at the two of them. Jonah's giving him a death stare and Luke's giving it back. They're just staring at each other. No words, nothing. Just staring.
"Yeah, I know Jonah." Luke squints his eyes, not removing them from Jonah.
"You bet your ass you know me." Jonah hisses.
"O-kay!" I get in the middle. "Can we please end this beef? Please. For me?" I beg both of them.
Silence.
"I-" Luke starts, but Jonah cuts him off.
"Only because of her, man. Only because of her." Jonah sighs and reaches his hand out, his jaw clenched and his nostrils dilated.
Luke glances at me and I nod.
"Truce." Luke nods, shaking Jonah's hand.
"Don't let it get to your head." Jonah pulls him in. "I still despise you. I just tolerate you now." He hisses.
"Okay!" I jump up and separate the two. "Luke, I'll catch you later, okay?"
Luke just nods and walks away.
"You did not have to be that harsh." I glare at Jonah.
"I abso-fucking-lutely did." He chuckles.
"Hey guys, thanks for coming." Shawn comes up to us.
"Of course." I smile.
"Hey Shawn." Savvy pops out of nowhere.
"Savvy... wow... you uh... you look stunning." Shawn smiles at Savvy, who's blushing like a tomato.
Jonah and I exchange a glance.
"We're uh... we're gonna go over there." I smile and slap Savvy's ass as we walk away and whisper "Get some!" in her ear.
"I will literally spit in your mouth you fucking rodent." Denis growls at some guy.
"Denski... You been drinking already?" I laugh as I walk up to him and Kate.
"I would never, Waters. Do you know what? I fucking love you. I love the shit out of you, you cute little shit." Denis slurs and hugs me.
"Okay, uh love you too, beb." I laugh and hug him back.
"Wow, I'm so hot for you right now." Kate rolls her eyes at him and we all laugh.
The night is magical. Everyone's having so much fun and it's just pure happiness in the air. The only downfall is that I can't be with Jonah much, since Chase is here. I am debating when the right time to tell him will be. The question of "what are we?" hasn't risen between Jonah and I yet. As soon as I know we're serious, I'll tell him. Until then, there's no point in causing unnecessary drama.
"Hey gorgeous, come with me." Jonah whispers in my ear.
I giggle and follow him outside. We jog to the back of the bar and we approach some area with a deck and a pond. There's even a small waterfall there. The trees, the moonlight, the music from inside... everything is perfect.
Jonah pins me up against a wall and leans on one of his hands, staring into my eyes.
"You look insanely good tonight." He smirks.
"Aw, do you like my dress?" I do a little side to side.
"It looks really good on you, but it would look better on my bedroom floor." He laughs.
"You are wasted." I laugh with him.
"Nuh uh, not even." He slurs.
"Yuh uh. You are so wasted." I run my fingers through his hair.
"Okay and what? Drunk thoughts are sober words." He says.
"I'm pretty sure it's the other way around." I giggle.
"What the fuck ever. You make me so happy Anastasia... You are like... ugh you are so good." He whines.
"Right back at you." I say.
"I can't get enough of you, you know? I just... I am so into you it's painful." He whispers.
"I'm into you too." I say and wrap my hands around his neck.
"You're driving me crazy." He whispers in my ear and presses his lips against mine.
I deepen the kiss and pull him closer.
"Aw, how cute." We hear a voice from behind us. I push him off and we both quickly turn around.
Of course. I could spot that curly hair from a mile away.
"Do you ever fuck off?" I groan at Carrie.
"Bitch, I'm not in the mood for you right now." Jonah glares at her.
"Of course you aren't. All you're in the mood for lately is fucking Annika and having your tongue down her throat. Just like you have for the past month or so. Ya know, behind Chase's back and everything." She smirks.
"Don't even fucking go there." Jonah's nostrils dilate.
"Listen you inbred rat-" I start, but am interrupted...
"What the fuck did she just say?"
It's Chase's voice.
"Oh my god." I gasp and slowly turn around.
Chase is standing there, angry. Angrier than I've ever seen him. Red face, the veins on his neck throbbing, his jaw clenched. He looks like he wants to kill everyone.
"Well my work here is done." Carrie giggles and walks away, leaving the three of us in silence...
