Diana:
It's Monday and today I start the final year of school. I take a quick shower and get ready. I wear a simple black top that reaches my thighs and I wear black bottoms with a denim jacket and I have black shoes on. I know I look like I'm going to do a serious mafia job but I kinda like the black look. I finish of by striking lip balm on my lips and by spraying perfume.
"I really hope you get a nice partner to help." Mom wishes me
"Yeah....but I'll be fine with whoever I get." I say
"Dad gave this to you...he had to reach early today." Mom says as she hands over some money to me.
"Thanks." I say as I take the money
I walk to the bustop and I find Gregory Olives, my neighbour already sitting at the bustop.
"Hey Gregory!" I wave
"Hi." He waves back
So here's the thing. Gregory doesn't talk much. He keeps to himself. I rarely see him getting out of his house, except for school and church.
"How did the vacation go?" I ask trying to avoid awkwardness that he's already feeling
"It was good. How about your's?"
"Mine was good too."
The awkwardness between Gregory and me was ended when a bus arrived and both of us got separate seats. As soon as I reached school I ran upto the notice board and I see my name against the number 10 in the list which has the header as12 B and it is room number 17. I qucikly searched for Olivia. She's rarely in the same class as me but to my surprise this year she was in the same class as me.
I make my way to room number 17 and to reassure I look at the board which says 12 B. I meet and greet all my friends. Some of my class mates act like they're seeing me for the first time even though we've spent the last 14 years together. My eyes catch the sight of Angelo who waved at me. I quickly go and sit behind him.
"What's up girl!" He greets
"Awesome! We end up in the same class after 5 years...I guess!" I recollect
"I know right!" He yells in excitement
"Hey Oli?" I call Oli through my phone
"Hey...I'm in 12 B this year...that's room number 17." She lets me know
I haven't told her yet that we're in the same class
"Oh...do you know which class I'm in?" I giggle as I pretend not to know.
"Uh...nope...I'm sorry...actually I met Adriana near the notice board so she told me that I was in the same class as her...so I didn't check."
"Thats alright....anyways meet you later." I hang up
I'm busy talking with Angelo but we're interrupted when I get a pat on my shoulder
"Since when have you become a liar?" Oli says as she crossing her hands across her chest with a wicked smile.
"Ever since you have become my best friend." I hug her
"Tell me you're in this class." Oli asks me to confirm with excitement
"Uh..yeah...she is..." Angelo speaks on behalf of me
Oli says nothing but she gives does give a faint smile.
"Angelo is in this class too!" I add up
They say nothing! It's like I'm putting up a dumb show. All they did was give fake smiles to each other. Olivia isn't like this. All my friends are her friends too. Angelo was a super cool person who loved making new friends, so Oli shouldn't have been a problem.
Our first two hours were boring. We had Economics and English. But, thank God we had an half day. So I knew that I'm going home after the next two hours. Actually not! I have SCB today and all the days to come. Today I would finally get to know my partner. I was so happy! I would make a new friend.
"Hey D, wanna get an ice cream?" Oli says as the bell rang and dismissed us from our last class
"Actually...we're going somewhere so she can't make it, sorry." Angelo says as he's walking beside me
I nod in agreement. I didn't want to lie to Oli but she shouldn't know anything about the SCB.
"D, could I talk to you for a minute." Oli wishpers to me.
I excuse myself from Angelo and I ask him to wait for me
"You should learn to talk for yourself Diana." Oli tells me
"Eh?"
"I mean why is Angelo Hugston speaking on your behalf?" She questions
"Oli, c'mon don't act silly. He just trying to be friendly to you and all you've been doing is ignoring him."
"I'm not ignoring him D. I'm not that used to him." Oli sighs
"Okay..I've got to go...he must be waiting."
"Are you dating Angelo?" Oli asks with a soft tone
"No.." I laugh
Oli just smiles, thats all she's been doing today. I hug Oli and make sure she's alright before she leaves and I make sure she didn't find anything about me being in SCB.
"Calvin is my partner" Angelo says as he points towards Calvin who's been sitting on a chair and looks like he's gonna cry any moment.
"Calvin's a nice guy....It's just that he needs a lot of help." Angelo admits
I take a look at my watch and see that it's 2 o'clock and I had to meet my partner at frickin 2 o'clock! Shit!!! My life sucks!!!
I skip, hop, jump and run to reach to room number 40 to meet the person who I will be helping for most part of the year. I'm already feeling awkward and guilty about the fact that I'm such a bad person and that I couldn't even attend the first extra class on time. I'm only five classes away from room number 40 and I look like I'm a pac man but I don't care. My partner should be regretting opting for these extra classes. I finally reached room 40.
"I'm so sorry.... I was caught up!" I try to take a deep breath but I'm breathless.
I realise that my partner is sitting alone because he has to. I mean it's only two people that is the helper and the partner in a class. My partner seems lost in a huge classroom because he doesn't even turn to see who his partner is. He was sitting there fidgetting with his phone with his headphone's were resting on his neck.
I take small steps but I still couldn't see him as his hoodie covered his entire face. Suddenly I kinda jumped in my place when a mettalic bottle fell on the ground. I glared at it because it had 'Cheshforder' on it. This meant that my partner was in a sport team because only people in sport teams get merch from our school. The bottle rolled and stopped a little further from me. I picked it up but my partner made no effort to get his bottle. As I picked it up, I saw 'ED' written on it. I froze a little but I hushed the unwanted thoughts in my mind. I stretched out my hand to give him the bottle. He turned to face me. I froze a little more. He removed the cap of his hoodie and Edward Rephlin took his bottle from me. I froze from the top till toe.
"Thanks Diana Fernaux."
"Edward...are...you my partner?" I'm still doubting
"No...I've come to play soccer with you."
"Stop it Edward!" I yell "Are you my partner?"
"If I'm here...that means I am your partner right!" He briefs
There you go! Just I as thought that my life sucks, I was wrong! My life is a lie! What am I supposed to do now? Should I jump from this building or run over a car or maybe a bus?
I don't even like Edward Rephlin
and now I'm supposed to help him!
No...no no no!
"What's wrong?" He asks me
"Um...are you sure Edward?" I tell him
"Sure about what?"
"That you're my partner." I doubt
"Yeah Diana Fernaux....why would I be here then?" Edward confirms
He was right. Why would Edward be here if he wasn't my partner?
