The One When Katherine Helps

It had been about three hours since the happy couple of Matthew Donovan and Caroline Forbes had confessed their feelings for one another in front of the whole town and Mystic Grill was still pumping with positive and fun energy as the alternative rock band continued to play their upbeat music. It felt like the first time in forever, in Emily's opinion, that everyone was having fun and actually enjoying themselves as she and Jenna were having a good time - thanks to Jose Cuervo, along with Bonnie and Elena, who has been dancing and laughing all night.

Currently, though, the human Petrova doppelganger and the Bennett witch were taking a small break from their fun as they were heading towards the restrooms. Emily had to go because of all of the alcohol she had consumed with her aunt while Bonnie was going because she's searching for the Gilbert vampire, who had disappeared about twenty minutes ago.

However, before the two teenage girls could even enter the hallway to the restrooms, the missing Gilbert vampire quickly warned them from her spot against the wall, "I wouldn't go in there." Once her twin sister and best friend turned to the sound of her voice and walked towards her, Elena began to explain before she awkwardly trailed off, "Caroline and Matt are..."

"In the bathroom!?" The Bennett witch swiftly exclaimed in shock once she placed the pieces together and realized what Elena was trying to tell her and Emily as the Gilbert vampire was pointing her head towards the direction of the women's restrooms.

Elena chuckled as she nodded her head before she stated with a simple shrug of her shoulders, "if they're happy, I'm happy." The Gilbert vampire did wish they would have put a sign on the door or something, though, so she wouldn't have to see them making out. Caroline and Matt are her friends, but it was just too weird for Elena to have to see all that.

The three teenagers couldn't help but burst out into laughter a second later at the fact that Caroline and Matt got caught being all lovey dovey with each other just hours after finally confessing their feelings to one another. We are definitely going to tease Caroline about it later, Emily thought.

The vampire, the witch, and the human girl then began to walk back towards the party once they had calmed down as they knew there was no way of getting into the restrooms anytime soon. However, before the Gilbert sisters could reach their aunt Jenna at the bar, the Bennett witch instantly stopped their movements when Bonnie uttered nervously, "um, hey, speaking of happy." The Bennett witch gave Emily and Elena an anxious smile once the sisters faced her before she hurriedly asked so she wouldn't chicken out, "would it freak you guys out if I started dating your brother?"

Elena glanced between her best friend and twin sister in confusion before she stared only at Bonnie with her brows deeply furrowed. "You're into our brother?" The Gilbert vampire interrogated in disbelief. Elena didn't even know that Jeremy and Bonnie were friends to begin with, so it shocked the Gilbert vampire that they are into each other like that.

Emily crossed her arms over her red long sleeve shirt and leather jacket as she stared her serious green eyes directly at the Bennett witch. "And you didn't think to mention this earlier when we were all dancing?" The human girl questioned with an emotionless voice as she decided to freak Bonnie out for a little bit. It is our duty as the older sisters, Emily thought as she unnoticeably bumped her hip into Elena's to secretly tell her to play along.

"I know. I'm sorry," Bonnie quickly apologized as she looked over at the human girl before she anxiously uttered, "it's weird, um, but he's been so good and strong." The Bennett witch couldn't help the smile that began to pull onto her lips as she spoke about Jeremy and the fact that she was finally telling her friends the truth as she added, "he makes me happy." Bonnie then took a nervous deep breath when she saw the sisters weren't saying anything before she mumbled, "and I really can't tell what you guys are thinking right now."

The Gilbert vampire glanced at her twin sister for a moment as they silently conversed before she turned and faced Bonnie with a small smile and uttered, "I'm thinking that our brother has had more pain in his life than a hundred people's worth of pain." Elena then shot Emily another look, which caused them to both nod their heads before the Gilbert vampire finally gave Bonnie her blessings, "and he deserves to be with someone as amazing as you."

Emily briefly placed her hand onto Bonnie's shoulder as she gave her best friend a bright smile to help calm her nerves. "Lena's right," the human girl told the Bennett witch once she took her place back beside her sister before she explained, "all I have ever wanted for Jer is to be happy, so if you are the reason for why he's happy then I'm completely on board."

Bonnie looked between the two sisters for a moment as she tried to figure out if they were being sincere before she asked with a hint of excitement in her voice, "really?" The Bennett witch was feeling a ray of emotions right now but most of all, she was happy that the sisters, her best friends, weren't mad that she wanted to be with their brother - which she was most afraid of.

The Gilbert vampire immediately nodded her head and uttered with a happy grin, "really," while the human girl also stated, "of course," at the exact same time like they always do. The three best friends then stared at one another before they swiftly broke out into a chuckle and pulled each other into one big hug. However, though, their embrace didn't last as long as they would have liked as someone's cell phone began to loudly vibrate.

Emily quickly pulled away from their tight embrace once she recognized the heartbeat vibrating ringtone before she mumbled, "that's mine." The human girl then pulled out her cell phone from her leather jacket pocket and saw that Stefan was calling her. "Finally," Emily mumbled before she told her twin sister and best friend, "it's Stef. I'll be right back."

The Gilbert girl pushed the accept button on her cell phone and brought it up to her right ear once she began to walk towards the side door of the Grill as she knew she wouldn't be able to hear anything with the sound of the loud music playing. "Hey, babe," Emily greeted her boyfriend once she stepped out into the quiet night before she wondered with a chuckle, "where are you? You're missing all of the fun."

The younger Salvatore was way past their normal pleasantries as he swiftly told the human girl what he had found out when the warlock showed up a few minutes ago, "Luka is dead and Jonas is on his way to find you. He wants to get even." Stefan then anxiously ran his hand through his already messy brown hair and took a deep breath as he tried to calm himself down before he ordered, "we have a plan, but I need you to grab Elena and meet me behind the Grill."

The human girl mumbled an emotionless, "okay," before she could only hear the dial tone on the end of the line as the vampire hung up. Emily felt like she was frozen as she could hear her heart pounding in her ears. It shocked Emily about what has been going on while she had been having fun with her family and best friends. However, Emily knew she shouldn't be that surprised since Jonas is working with Elijah - who is now dead, so of course he would come after her.

Finally after a few minutes of standing there all alone, Emily gained the strength that she needed to focus before she swiftly jogged her way back into Mystic Grill. The human girl knew she needed to be on the lookout for the angry warlock, so once Emily got into the main part of the Grill, she carefully looked around while she also kept her body hidden behind a thick pillar.

Crap, the Gilbert girl instantly cursed once she looked near the bar and saw that Bonnie was speaking with the warlock that is currently after her. This is not good, Emily thought once she hid her whole body behind the pillar while she took a deep breath to calm her nerves from the possibility of getting caught by the warlock.

It took the human girl about a minute or two of her standing there in silence before she finally felt calm enough to keep on going with her task. Emily knew she couldn't just chicken out as that wasn't something she does. She faces things no matter how dangerous it is, so the brunette girl took another deep breath before she slowly moved her green eyes around the pillar and began her search, once more, for her twin sister through the sea of people in Mystic Grill.

"Hey..." The puzzled voice of Elena Gilbert called out as she slowly walked up behind her twin sister in confusion as it looked like Emily was either concealing herself from someone or was playing hide and seek by the way her body was positioned. "What are you doing?" The Gilbert vampire amusingly wondered with a small chuckle.

Emily flinched at the intruding voice from behind her before the human girl instantly let out a sigh when she saw it was the person that she is looking for. "Thank God," the green eyed girl mumbled and stated, "we have a problem," before she swiftly grabbed Elena's hand and began to pull her towards the back door of Mystic Grill as quickly as she could as she prayed Jonas wouldn't notice them.

Elena glanced over to her twin sister in confusion once they came to a stop in the middle of the alley behind the Grill and went to question her. But before the Gilbert vampire could utter a single word, a growl immediately escaped her mouth when she saw Emily take a couple of steps until she walked into Stefan's awaiting arms. However, that wasn't what angered Elena. No, it was the person standing between the Salvatore brothers; Katherine Pierce. "What the hell is she doing here?" Elena snapped as she pointed her finger in disgust at her doppelganger.

"Hey, hey, hey," the older Salvatore vampire quickly uttered as he stepped in front of his angry girlfriend and blocked her from seeing Katherine. "You need to relax," Damon told Elena as he stared directly into her fierce brown eyes while he softly placed his hands on either side of the young vampire's face to hopefully keep Elena subdued from doing anything irrational.

"She's here to help," Stefan explained to the Gilbert vampire once the dark alley grew quiet with a tense silence while he held the human girl tightly in his arms. The younger Salvatore then placed a long kiss on top of Emily's head as he had been so worried about her, especially with not being able to see her for most of the day, before he further explained to the confused and angry Gilbert vampire, "Jonas is here and he's after Emily."

Elena's brown eyes immediately widened in shock before she swiftly glanced at each face around the alley from Stefan, to Emily, to Damon, and finally Katherine. Once the Gilbert vampire realized that they weren't joking around or pranking her, Elena quickly asked in concern, "what are we supposed to do?" The Gilbert vampire was extremely worried instead of angry now that she knew the warlock is after her twin sister. She didn't even care about the reason as Elena just wanted to know how she is suppose to protect Emily.

Stefan moved his green eyes over to the silent Katherine before he explained the plan to the Gilbert twins, "Katherine is going to take Elena's place and she and Emily are going to confront Jonas while the three of us gets everyone to safety." The younger Salvatore wasn't really a fan of the plan since he didn't trust Katherine, but he knew they didn't have time to think of anything else.

However, it did take some convincing, though, before Stefan and Damon finally agreed with the plan after Katherine had explained that Emily would be more safer with her since she is so much more older and stronger than they are, so she would be able to protect Emily better while also dealing with a powerful warlock.

"Are you crazy!?" The Gilbert vampire gaped in shock as she stared across at Stefan in disbelief. There was no way Elena was just going to let Katherine be the person in charge of protecting her twin sister against Jonas. If anyone is going to protect Emily, then it is going to be me, Elena thought as she glared at her sister's boyfriend.

The silent Petrova vampire rolled her brown eyes at her annoying doppelganger as she couldn't hold back any longer before she took a step closer to the group and exclaimed irritatedly like she had explained to the Salvatore brothers why she is the better option to getting Emily to safety, "I'm stronger and faster than all of you combined. I can withstand a weak little warlock." Katherine then pointed her head towards her sister's doppelganger before she continued as she tried to get Elena to understand, "you don't trust me, fine. But the one thing you should trust is that I will keep Emily safe no matter what."

Katherine may not be their biggest fan, but she is always going to protect Darina's doppelganger like she promised. It is the least she could do for her twin sister and follow through with the plan that Maria and Darina had set into place for the human doppelganger centuries ago. That is the main reason for Katherine's irritation with the vampires in Mystic Falls as they didn't believe that she really wants to help like Elena is currently doing. But Katherine wasn't just going to let these weak, young vampires ruin the one good thing that she can do for her deceased twin sister.

The Gilbert vampire stared across at Katherine for a moment as she tried to figure out if Katherine is telling the truth. However, Elena knew how good of a liar Katherine is, so instead she turned her brown gaze over to her silent twin sister. Emily has always been her voice of reason through everything, so Elena wanted to see what her twin had to say about all this. "Do you agree with this plan? Do you trust Katherine?" The Gilbert vampire wondered as she crossed her arms over her chest.

Emily bit down on her bottom lip as she looked at her twin sister. The human girl knew what Elena wanted her to say as she doesn't trust Katherine, but Emily knew the older vampire was right. It was the only way that everyone would be able to get to safety, so Emily knew it was their only option. "We're sticking with the plan," the human doppelganger finally muttered with a nod of her head. Emily only cared about protecting everyone, so if she has to face a warlock with Katherine then she will gladly do so.

Elena immediately released a heavy sigh when her twin sister agreed with Katherine's plan. The Gilbert vampire hated that Emily was so willing to trust Katherine with her life like that, but Elena knew that they need to act fast before Jonas does something bad or gets angrier. So instead of arguing like she wanted as she only trusts herself with Emily's safety, Elena mumbled in defeat, "okay."

The Petrova vampire instantly clapped her hands together with a large smirk now that everyone was on board with her plan. Katherine then moved to stand in the middle of the group like the queen she is as she began to tell her disheartened doppelganger as she glanced down at the jeans and grey sweater on her body, "since I'm already wearing your ugly clothes," before she glanced over to the annoyed Elena's neck and concluded with a twitch of her head, "I'm just gonna need that necklace that you are wearing."

Elena couldn't help but instantly place her fingers protectively over the silver necklace resting on her chest with a deep frown. The Gilbert vampire didn't want to give Katherine the piece of jewelry as it holds a picture of her parents and siblings. Elena had been wearing the necklace ever since she had transitioned into a vampire as it's the only thing that keeps her anchored to her true self and keeps her human.

However, though, as Elena stood there in silence with the silver necklace clutched in her hand while she stared over at her twin sister in Stefan's arms, the Gilbert vampire couldn't help but let out a heavy sigh once she realized that Katherine is right. This will be the only way that they are really going to be able to fool Jonas in thinking that Katherine is her, so Elena slowly reached to pull off the one thing that keeps her anchored to her family as she only cares about making sure Emily will be safe.

"Thank you," Katherine uttered condescendingly once Elena had finally gave her the necklace or when she had just snatched the necklace from her doppelganger as she had grown tired of waiting. The Petrova vampire then strutted over to her favorite Gilbert after she placed the silver piece of jewelry around her neck before she exclaimed with a smirk, "now you have a fun sister."

A loud growl immediately rang throughout the dark alleyway behind Mystic Grill as soon as Katherine placed her hand onto Emily's arm which came from the youngest vampire; Elena Gilbert. She just couldn't control her emotions as Elena felt a wave of jealousy crash into her. Elena hated how easily Katherine can just take her spot as Emily's sister.

So being the protective and emotional vampire she is over her twin sister, Elena harshly slammed her shoulder into Katherine's and growled, "if my sister gets hurt, you're dead," before she pulled Emily into a tight hug. The Gilbert vampire held her twin in her arms for a minute or two before she finally pulled away and stared into Emily's eyes with concern in her own. "Be careful," Elena worriedly whispered while she ignored Katherine's taunting and smirking from beside her as she solely focused on the fact that Emily was about to face an angry warlock without her.

The human Petrova doppelganger gave her twin sister a small smile before she pulled Elena into another hug as she silently tried to assure the vampire that everything would be okay. Emily held Elena in her arms for a moment in the middle of the alleyway before she whispered into the vampire's ear, "you're my only sister."

The human girl knew how Elena could get, especially when it comes to Katherine, so Emily just wanted to make sure Elena didn't get too worked up before they go through with the plan. Once Emily felt Elena's shoulders relax, which told her that the vampire was calming down, she slowly pulled away before she looked into Elena's brown eyes and uttered as they didn't know what could happen tonight, "you be careful too."

The Gilbert vampire silently nodded her head as she stared into Emily's green eyes as Elena knew nothing would completely calm her nerves down about allowing Katherine to be in charge of keeping her twin sister safe - despite what Emily thought. Elena didn't trust anyone with her twin sister, so there was no chance she was ever going to be okay with this. But the Gilbert vampire knew Emily was worried about her, so Elena only gave her twin a small smile before she was unfortunately pulled away from Emily by her boyfriend. It's probably for the best, Elena thought as she knew it would be hard for her to let her twin sister go without some help.

Once Elena was pulled away from the human doppelganger and forced a couple of steps down the dark alleyway by Damon, the younger Salvatore swiftly twisted Emily around so he would be able to look into his favorite pair of eyes. Stefan then softly brought his cold hands to the brunette girl's warm cheeks for a moment before he leaned down and pulled Emily into a passionate and loving kiss.

The green eyed vampire had been worried about the human girl ever since he had found out about Jonas's plan, so he definitely didn't want to leave Emily's side, like Elena, but Stefan knew it would be the only way to get Emily to safety. Therefore, instead of trying to convince Emily to come with him, like he usually would in a situation like this, Stefan just put all of his emotions into their kiss before he pulled away and uttered softly, "stay safe." Stefan then squeezed the human girl's shoulders and commanded in a deadly serious voice, "if things get too bad with Jonas, I want you to run. I don't care about Katherine, just make sure you get out of there."

Emily gave Stefan a small but comforting smile before she joked with a smirk while she aimlessly played with the vampire's right hand, "you know I have the tenacity to find danger, so that might be a problem." The Gilbert girl knew she was about to walk into something dangerous, but she couldn't help but make a joke. It just makes her feel a little bit more calmer if she can make someone smile - which she did as she saw the corner of Stefan's lips turn into a half smile. Emily then grew serious after a moment of silence as she remembered who is still in the Grill as she ordered, "make sure you guys get Jenna out of here," before the human girl pulled the Salvatore vampire into one last kiss and uttered softly, "I love you. Be careful."

The Salvatore vampire nodded his head as he rubbed the side of the human girl's face and whispered, "I love you too," before he laid a soft kiss onto Emily's forehead. Stefan stayed like that for a couple of minutes as he didn't want to let go. But unfortunately for the couple, they were soon interrupted by the sound of the oldest doppelganger loudly clearing her throat.

Stefan squeezed the human girl's hand once he pulled away from their embrace as he offered Emily some last second assurance before the Salvatore vampire turned around and faced Katherine with a glare. "If anything happens to her, you're dead," Stefan threatened the older vampire like Elena had before he swiftly turned around and joined Elena and Damon to get everyone out of Mystic Grill and to safety.

"Yeah, yeah," Katherine shouted towards the three vampires with an eye roll before she mumbled as she remembered all of the threats that she had gotten from Stefan and Damon before they left the boarding house, "I've heard it all before." Katherine's mood then immediately changed, despite her careless attitude with the vampires, once she was all alone with the human doppelganger.

"You don't have to worry about a thing," Katherine assured the human girl with a small nod of her head as she looked at Emily with soft eyes. "I know you probably don't like me," the Petrova vampire mumbled before she stated, "but I'm not going to let anything happen to you." Katherine then placed her hand over her unbeating heart and uttered truthfully, "I see you like my own sister, so if Jonas tries anything, I got you, okay?"

The Petrova vampire has always felt connected to the human girl ever since she had laid eyes on her sister's doppelganger. So, there was no way Katherine was going to allow a weak warlock to hurt Emily along with the fact that Katherine wants to make sure Darina and Maria's plan goes off without a hitch and that means protecting Emily and making sure that she stays alive.

Emily confusingly stared into Katherine's brown eyes for a moment as she could never figure Katherine out. It felt like every time she knew what Katherine was planning, the vampire would surprise her. However, Emily didn't have time to question Katherine about her motive as they have an angry warlock to face, so the human girl just mumbled out, "I trust you."

Emily felt like Katherine would do good by her anyways, because of the stupid doppelganger connection that Darina had cursed her with. It was the same with Elijah as the human girl felt like she could trust them because of how Darina cared for them. Well, that was how Emily was thinking the doppelganger connection worked, but Emily knew it probably goes deeper than that.

The Petrova vampire gave the human girl a large smirk once Emily was fully on board with her plan before she murmured, "good." Katherine then held out her hand and exclaimed with an even larger smirk, "let's go, dear sister," before she linked her fingers with Emily's like Elena would and began to pull her sister's doppelganger into Mystic Grill to face the Martin warlock.

The human girl and the vampire walked as quickly as they could through the backdoor of the restaurant before they finally reached the center of the Grill and immediately saw the destruction Jonas had caused like the bar being set on fire and furniture destroyed while the human residents ran for the exits with the help of the three vampires; Stefan, Damon, and Elena.

The two doppelgangers stood to the side for a couple of minutes as they silently watched the disaster of the Grill before Katherine gave Emily a small nod and squeezed her hand which gave the human girl the confidence she needed to finally confront the warlock. The green eyed girl took a deep breath to calm herself before she took a step towards the destruction and called out to get the warlock's attention, "Jonas!"

The Gilbert girl knew that she needed to get the warlock to focus on her so everyone could escape, so Emily decided to focus on the compassionate side of the warlock. "I'm so sorry about what happened tonight to your son," Emily apologized with sorrow in her green eyes as she didn't even know that Luka was a threat to them. But instead of focusing on that, Emily decided to keep the warlock's attention solely on her as she exclaimed, "I can't fix that, but I can help you get your daughter back if you just help us defeat Klaus."

The Martin warlock swiftly shook her his head while he angrily pointed his finger at the human doppelganger. "Only Elijah can do that!" Jonas shouted.

Emily softly placed her hand over her heart as she took a step closer towards Jonas before she uttered gently, "I thought that too. But if we work together, we can stop Klaus and save your daughter." The Gilbert girl would, in fact, want to have Elijah to help them but she knew that wasn't really an option right now, so Emily kept her feelings and opinions to herself as she knew it would just anger the warlock even more since her friends are the reason why the original isn't around right now.

The human Petrova doppelganger thought her words were comforting and would be able to keep the warlock calm, but they actually had the opposite effect as Jonas swiftly lifted his hands towards the wooden banister beside Emily and caught it on fire out of anger like he did with the bar. The revenging warlock then turned his fierce dark brown eyes back onto the human doppelganger and who he thought was Elena before he went to step forward to get rid of the reason why his son is dead.

However, before Jonas could complete his attack on the Gilbert duo, the Forbes vampire instantly popped up from her hiding spot and jumped on top of the warlock with a loud and protective snarl. Caroline then turned around and faced her best friend and the vampire that turned her once she had the warlock down on the ground before she commanded with her vamped out face, "go!"

The human Petrova doppelganger nodded her head and went to follow after Caroline's command but before Emily could turn around, she noticed that the warlock was starting to get the upper hand. Emily just couldn't leave her best friend alone, so Emily ignored Caroline's order and began to look around her to hopefully help the blonde vampire get away from the warlock.

However, the ever so protective and caring human girl didn't get the chance to come up with a plan to help her best friend as Katherine quickly latched her hand onto Emily's wrist and commanded, "come on!" The Petrova vampire then began to pull the stubborn human girl out of the restaurant as she hurriedly promised, "Caroline can handle herself!"

Katherine's words were just what Emily needed to hear as she stopped dragging her feet and ran to keep up with Katherine's long legs while they rushed through the crowd of people. Emily hated leaving her best friend behind but Emily knew that she needed to remember that Caroline is a vampire and she is only a human, so there is times where she has to let someone else take charge.

"Emily!" The loud voice of the younger Salvatore shouted which interrupted the human girl's inner turmoil of leaving her best friend behind. Stefan jogged in front of the two doppelgangers in concern before he grabbed ahold of Emily's face. "Hey, are you okay?" The Salvatore worriedly asked as his green eyes began to scan the human girl's body for any signs of trauma.

"She's fine," Katherine snapped as her annoyance was back at the fact that no one believes that she would protect Emily. The Petrova vampire then turned her concerned brown eyes between Emily and the Grill as she just had this bad feeling in her stomach. "Jonas is still here, I'll take her home," Katherine told the Salvatore vampire as something just felt off to her. Katherine didn't know what it was but she knew it had something to do with the warlock and she wasn't going to chance Emily's safety.

Stefan looked at Katherine in confusion as he didn't understand the vampire's motive of wanting to help Emily so much. But the fact that Jonas could try to attack Emily was Stefan's bigger concern, so Stefan nodded his head before he turned his gaze onto the human girl. "We'll meet you there soon," the Salvatore vampire promised before he pulled Emily into a passionate and caring kiss.

The human girl squeezed Stefan's hand once their embrace ended and whispered, "be careful," before she was instantly pulled away by the Petrova vampire. Emily was extremely worried for Caroline and for Elena and for the Salvatore brothers, but she knew there was no way they were going to let her stay and help, so Emily just jogged as fast as she could towards her black Honda. The Gilbert girl just prayed as Katherine began to drive away from her loved ones that they would all be coming back to her instead of feeling the wrath of the Martin warlock.

***

GILBERT HOUSE

It took a little less than eight minutes instead of the usual fifteen minutes before Emily arrived back home thanks to Katherine's crazy fast-and-the-furious driving. The human girl took a deep breath once her black Honda was finally stopped. Emily knows she drives fast, but Katherine drives at a whole nother level.

The Petrova vampire immediately rolled her brown eyes after she turned off the car and had noticed the tired and relieved expression on the human girl's face. "Oh, come on," Katherine muttered before she exclaimed with a smirk, "my driving isn't that bad."

The black Honda then grew silent after a moment, so Katherine pulled the keys out of the ignition and handed them to the human girl with a quiet mumble, "here," before Katherine vamp sped around until she was in front of Emily's door. The Petrova vampire still had this bad feeling in her chest and she wanted to make sure Emily was actually safe, so Katherine helped the human girl out of the car before she quietly walked Emily to the front door of the Gilbert house while she also made sure the angry warlock wasn't planning any sneak attacks that would ruin Darina and Maria's plan for the human doppelganger.

Once the human girl and the vampire silently made their way onto the porch of the Gilbert house, Emily dug through her leather jacket pocket for the keys that Katherine had gave her before she unlocked the front door. The human girl then immediately let out a heavy sigh once she was inside the safety of her home. Emily hadn't realized just how tired she was after the long day at school, dancing all night, and of course the whole warlock problem. So the only thing Emily wanted to do right now is get out of these dirty clothes and go to sleep for a couple of days.

However, the human girl's slumber would have to wait because as soon as Emily walked towards the living room to place her jacket on the couch, two pairs of footsteps came rushing towards her before a warm pair of arms were swiftly wrapped around Emily's waist. "Thank God you're okay," the familiar voice of Bonnie Bennett whispered into her best friend's ear.

Once the two friends pulled away from each other, Emily only had the chance to give Bonnie an assuring smile before she was swiftly pulled into her brother's arms as well. "I'm glad you're okay," Jeremy told his older sister before he pulled away. But unlike Bonnie, Jeremy didn't give Emily a smile as he noticed who was standing behind her. "What is she doing here?" The younger Gilbert snapped as he glared over at the vampire who's always terrorizing their family and friends.

The Petrova vampire instantly moved to stand beside her favorite Gilbert once she was finally noticed as she couldn't help but want to cause trouble like she always does. Katherine then gave the human teenager and the Bennett witch a wide smirk before she crossed her arms over her chest and exclaimed, "i'm saving your asses."

The living room of the Gilbert house was immediately overcome by a thick and tense silence after Katherine's statement which instantly caused the human doppelganger to roll her green eyes after she noticed Jeremy's glaring and Katherine's smirking. Emily was definitely in no mood to deal with their arguing, so the human girl let out a tired and heavy sigh before she told the two supernatural beings and her brother, "I'm going to go get out of these clothes." The Gilbert girl scrunched up her nose when she caught a whiff of her red long sleeved shirt before she added, "they smell like fire."

However, before Emily could make her way towards the staircase to finally get out of her clothes that were ruined by the warlock and his angry tendencies of setting everything on fire, the Petrova vampire swiftly latched her fingers around Emily's wrist. The Gilbert girl looked back over to Jeremy and Bonnie in confusion, who were also puzzled, once she realized she couldn't move before she connected her eyes to the person that was holding her with a raised eyebrow as Emily didn't understand why Katherine was still being so protective.

The Petrova vampire didn't say anything right away like the human girl thought she would. Instead, Katherine silently placed her point finger over her lips while she glanced between the two Gilbert siblings and the Bennett witch before she pointed towards the staircase.

Katherine had heard footsteps from upstairs as soon as the doppelganger moved, and Katherine knew it could only be one person since Elena and the Salvatore brothers were still at the Grill. The Petrova vampire knew she needed to still live up to her Elena facade, so Katherine gave the three teenagers a pointed look before she exclaimed loudly as she placed her hand onto Emily's shoulder, "I'll come with you, sister."

The human girl was extremely puzzled as she didn't understand what was going on. Emily didn't know if it was because she is exhausted or she is actually going crazy, but the Gilbert girl just couldn't figure out what Katherine was thinking right now. So instead of trying to figure it out, Emily straight up told Katherine as she didn't have time for all these games when all she wanted to do was to sleep, "you know, you don't have to keep -"

However, before Emily could tell Katherine that she didn't have to keep pretending to be her sister, the Petrova vampire swiftly placed her hand over the human girl's mouth. Once Emily finally stopped fighting her, Katherine then pulled away and mouthed, 'Jonas,' to let the human girl know what was going on.

The Petrova vampire linked her fingers with Emily's once the human girl nodded her head in understanding before she loudly stated so the warlock still believes that she is Elena, "I think I left my jacket in your room." Katherine then gave the two teenagers behind them another look before turning back to Emily with a small nod and whispered, "trust me," before she slowly began to pull the human girl up the stairs to face the warlock.

The two Petrova doppelgangers silently walked up the wooden staircase of the Gilbert house as quietly as they could so they wouldn't spook the angry warlock. But once they reached the long hallway that connects all the rooms, Katherine held her hand up and used her advanced hearing. The Petrova vampire listened for a couple of seconds before she smirked as she realized where Jonas is located.

Katherine squeezed the human girl's hand to get Emily's attention, so she could silently tell the human girl the plan before she pointed towards the bathroom, where she can hear the heavy breathing of the warlock. The Petrova vampire then released Emily's hand after the Gilbert girl nodded in agreement before she began to make her way towards the human girl's bedroom. Katherine knew the bedroom connects to the bathroom, so if Jonas was planning to attack, she could quickly take him out before he does any damage to her sister's doppelganger.

Once the human girl watched Katherine walk into her bedroom, Emily took a shaky deep breath as she knew she was about to walk into a trap. However, Emily knew she couldn't back out now or Jonas might try to hurt her family, so the brunette girl took a silent deep breath as she tried to focus her mind.

The Gilbert girl figured it would be best to act like everything is normal and that there wasn't a warlock currently waiting to kill her, so Emily decided to act how she usually would in this situation which would be annoyed and irritated by the fact that Jonas ruined her outfit by throwing a fit with fiery flames.

And that is exactly what Emily did as she let out a loud irritated growl before she slammed the door open to the bathroom. "Stupid fire," Emily mumbled as she played along with her plan before she moved herself in front of the large mirror above the sink before she began to strip out of her smelly leather jacket.

The human doppelganger's plan worked perfectly as after she placed her jacket onto the counter top and looked back into the mirror, Jonas appeared right over her shoulder before he began to try to strangle her. Emily knew this was the chance Katherine needed, so Emily quickly yelled before the warlock could kill her, "now!"

Katherine swiftly vamp sped into the bathroom at the sound of Emily's panicky voice before she noticed the situation. The Petrova vampire then quickly grabbed the neck of the warlock before she pulled him off of the human girl and threw him at the adjacent wall. Katherine let out a loud growl as her protective self came out before her inner monster took over as her face transformed which caused her to speed towards the warlock and attack his throat with her long fangs.

Emily backed up against the sink as she couldn't help but watch as Katherine took care of the warlock. It was like she couldn't take her eyes off of her doppelganger's sister no matter how bloody it got. Thankfully, Emily didn't have to be scarred for much longer as the Bennett witch came rushing into the bathroom a second later.

Once Katherine couldn't feel the warlock breathing, the Petrova vampire stood up from the ground, where she noticed the witch beside the human girl. "You're welcome," Katherine uttered with a large smirk as she watched the shocked expression on the Bennett witch's face. The Petrova vampire then moved her now soft brown eyes over to Emily as she wanted to make sure the human girl didn't get harmed.

Despite her careless attitude with everything she does, Katherine was glad that the warlock was handled. The Petrova vampire didn't need some warlock, who was trying to kill her sister's doppelganger around to mess up Darina and Maria's plan just because he's trying to get his witch daughter back. Katherine only cared that everything goes perfectly and Emily continues to be alive, so she doesn't mind killing anyone who gets in her way.

The Bennett witch shot the Petrova vampire a fierce glare at her disregard of life before she quickly jogged towards the Martin warlock. "You didn't have to kill him," Bonnie told Katherine as she stared down at the dead warlock with anger and sadness. The Bennett witch hated when people died, but she was also disappointed as Jonas was the one that took her powers.

Katherine rolled her brown eyes at the goody-two-shoes witch before she wiped the blood of the warlock from her face with Elena's sweater and crossed her arms over her chest. "Yes, we did," the Petrova vampire argued with the Bennett witch before her eyes trailed towards the human girl as thoughts of her twin sister began to takeover her mind.

Katherine felt like it is her duty to keep Emily protected no matter what as she didn't get that opportunity with Darina. She didn't even get the chance to say goodbye to her twin sister, so Katherine was going to make sure that she keeps the Gilbert girl alive and that she gets to make Darina proud by completing her and Maria's plan before the sacrifice. Katherine had failed her sister over the years, so it is the least she could do.

The Bennett witch huffed out a sigh as she stared over at the vampire and her best friend. Bonnie knew Katherine was right, even though she would never admit it, as Jonas would have really killed Emily since he was so headstrong on avenging his son. The young witch just couldn't help but feel bad for the warlock, so Bonnie moved down to her knees in front of Jonas as she wanted to pay her respects. However, when Bonnie brought her hand to the warlock's face to close his eyes, the Martin warlock sprung to life and instantly grabbed ahold of her face.

"Bonnie!" The human doppelganger instantly shouted as soon as she heard her best friend scream out of pain and noticed that Jonas was alive. Emily then went to go help the Bennett witch, but before she could even take a step, Katherine had already beaten her to it as the Petrova vampire snapped the warlock's neck.

The shared bathroom in the Gilbert house was immediately overcome by a thick silence as the three girls; Bonnie, Emily, and Katherine all glanced at one another before they all stared down at the officially dead warlock with heavy breaths. It was just so shocking as none of them saw it coming - not even the centuries old vampire.

Finally, after a couple of silent seconds had passed by, Emily was the first one to jump out of her state of disbelief as she quickly walked over to Bonnie, who looked like she was about to break down. "Are you okay?" Emily quickly asked as she searched through Bonnie's brown eyes for an answer, "what happened?"

However, the Bennett witch didn't give the human girl an answer as tears instantly began to spill from her brown eyes once she was in the comfort of her best friend. So instead of trying to speak, Bonnie threw herself into Emily's arms and cried for all of the pain and grief that she was feeling in just a short amount of time.

"What's going on?" The out of breath Jeremy asked once he rushed into the bathroom and saw the destruction of the dead warlock, the bloody Katherine, and his sister comforting the crying Bonnie. The youngest Gilbert had heard Bonnie screaming from downstairs and grew worried, so he wanted to check up on her and his sister as he was scared Katherine had done something.

Emily glanced over Bonnie's shoulder as she held her best friend closely and noticed her concerned brother. The human girl knew that Jeremy would probably be able to relax the Bennett witch now that there are together, so Emily told her brother, "I need you to help keep her calm."

The youngest Gilbert quickly nodded his head in agreement before he slowly helped the Bennett witch out of his sister's arms and into his. Jeremy then gave Emily a small nod to tell her that he will take care of her before he slowly began to pull the sobbing Bonnie towards his bedroom.

The human Petrova doppelganger immediately released a heavy sigh once she watched her brother walk the crying Bonnie out of the bathroom. Emily hated that her best friend was in so much pain because of the warlock that had tried to kill her. Emily just hoped Jeremy would be able to calm Bonnie down and figure out what happened to her.

Emily moved her green eyes over to Katherine once she was finally out of her thoughts and noticed that the Petrova vampire was already looking at her. The human girl then went to open her mouth as she felt the need to thank Katherine for tonight but before Emily could even utter a single word, she heard the sound of the front door opening and closing.

Emily didn't even think twice once she heard the sound of the arrival of someone in the Gilbert house before she jogged her way out of the bathroom and down the stairs as she knew exactly who was here. The human girl then instantly released a thankful sigh when she saw her twin sister and the Salvatore brothers injury-free as she had been worried that Jonas had done something to them at the Grill.

The younger Salvatore vamp sped up to the human girl before she even got the chance to reach the bottom of the stairs once he heard the familiar sound of her heartbeat before he swiftly pulled her into a tight hug. Stefan had been nervous to let Katherine be the protector over Emily ever since she disappeared from his sight, so Stefan was glad to finally have her in his arms again. Once Stefan finally pulled away from their embrace after a couple of silent and calm minutes had passed, he placed his hands on either side of Emily's face before he worriedly asked, "are you okay?"

However, before Emily had the chance to assure Stefan that she was okay, the Petrova vampire rolled her brown eyes at the younger Salvatore as she passed him and Emily while she walked down the stairs before she exclaimed, "she's safe like I said she would." Katherine then glanced towards the stairs with a smirk before she added with a careless shrug, "but you do have a dead warlock in the bathroom."

The Gilbert vampire instantly vamp sped to her twin sister and pushed Stefan to the side as soon as she heard Katherine mention that the warlock had been here. Elena had thought Jonas had just left when they couldn't find him inside the Grill. It frightened Elena that the warlock had been here with Emily, so she did the only thing she could do to assure herself that her twin sister was safe as she pulled Emily into a tight hug.

"You're okay," Elena whispered into her twin sister's ear as she continued to hold Emily tightly in her chest, "he can't get to you anymore." The Gilbert vampire felt like she needed to tell Emily these things, but in reality it was for her. It was basically the first time Elena hadn't been with her sister during a dangerous situation, besides the whole werewolf kidnapping ordeal, so it made Elena not to want to leave her twin sister's sight anytime soon as she was scared something would happen.

However, much to Elena's annoyance, the Gilbert twins were soon interrupted as the Petrova vampire walked up to the two sisters. "I'm guessing you're going to want this back," Katherine muttered as she ripped the locket necklace from her chest. The Petrova vampire then glanced down at the clothes that she's wearing before she added amusingly, "but your little outfit is going to need a good dry clean."

The Gilbert vampire let out a small growl at the disruption before she released her twin sister and turned around to face her doppelganger. Elena then swiftly ripped her necklace out of Katherine's hand before she exclaimed, "you need to leave before Jenna gets home."

Katherine crossed her arms over her chest and raised an eyebrow as she stared over at her doppelganger before a glare instantly transformed onto her face. "Is that all you have to say to me?" The Petrova vampire inquired to her ungrateful doppelganger.

Elena copied Katherine's stance as she crossed her arms over her chest before she exclaimed, "this doesn't change the way I feel about you." The Petrova vampire could help a million of times, but Elena was still never going to trust her or like her after all the crap Katherine had pulled on her friends and loved ones.

Katherine took a step closer to her doppelganger with her glare still fixed on her tan face before she told Elena irritatingly, "I don't much like you, either, if we're going to be open. And frankly, I'd be happy to see you dead." The Petrova vampire then glanced over to the silent Emily in Stefan's arms with a soft expression before she continued in a passionate voice, "but I'm here to protect her."

Katherine glanced at everyone in the room for a moment as she finally shared something of her past, "I didn't get the opportunity to protect my sister from Klaus," before she looked back to Elena with a glare and added with a smirk, "and you're doing a poor job of keeping Emily safe, so I'm doing it for you." Katherine then held out her arms to show that it didn't matter what they said before she told everyone in the Gilbert house, "you can hate me all you want, but that's not going to change a thing. I know you all think I'm lying, but if you are going to believe anything, then believe I'm really here to help keep Emily alive - no matter what."

The Gilbert house was barely silent for a half a second after Katherine's speech before a loud snarl escaped the youngest vampire's mouth. It made Elena so angry and jealous that Katherine keeps saying that she isn't protecting her twin sister and that she could do it better. So being the protective person she is over Emily, the Gilbert vampire went to rush at her doppelganger to attack her as she couldn't control her emotions.

However, before Elena could vamp speed towards Katherine and tackle her to the ground, the Gilbert vampire was instantly stopped when Emily quickly placed herself in front of her sister. "Hey, relax," Emily quickly told Elena before she added to hopefully convince Elena to stop trying to attack Katherine, "she's the only reason why I'm alive right now." The human girl then placed her hands onto Elena's shoulders and gave them a squeeze with a small smile when she felt Elena calm down before she uttered as Emily knew how protective Elena is, "you will always be my sister, no matter what, Elena." The human girl took a quick glance to Katherine before she continued to tell Elena but in a more serious voice, "but if we are going to beat Klaus, then we're going to need her help, okay?"

The Gilbert vampire immediately frowned deeply after she listened to what her twin sister had said. Elena hated that Emily was so willing to trust Katherine with her life like this, but Elena knew her doppelganger was their only option since she is the only one, besides Elijah and Rose, that has met Klaus. So, even though Elena didn't want to, she nodded her head in agreement before she swiftly pulled her twin sister into another hug and mumbled, "I'm glad you're okay."

Emily chuckled softly at her worried sister inside of their tight embrace. The human girl knew where Elena is coming from, though, as she would react the same way if Elena was in her position. So, instead of teasing Elena about how crazy and protective she's being, Emily kissed the top of her twin sister's forehead before she whispered, "I'm glad you are okay too."

It took at least three minutes or so before the Gilbert twins finally pulled away from one another in the middle of the hallway of their home. Emily gave her twin sister a reassuring smile once she was looking into Elena's brown eyes to assure her that she's really okay and safe. The human girl then turned her body around and looked over to her doppelganger's sister before she silently nodded her head towards the front door.

Once Emily, of course, assured the younger Salvatore that she would be okay with a quick kiss, the human girl followed after Katherine to the porch, where she found the Petrova vampire leaning against the white banister. Emily wanted to get Katherine out of the house for two reasons; so the vampires wouldn't all try to kill each other and because Emily had the need to thank Katherine for protecting her today.

"Uh, listen..." Emily awkwardly began as she didn't know exactly what to say while she looked over at the tall brunette vampire, "I know no one else will say this, so I will." The human girl then paused as she stared across at Katherine before she expressed, "I just wanted to thank you for keeping me safe today when you could have just let Jonas kill me."

A small smirk slowly slipped onto Katherine's face as she stared across at her sister's doppelganger before she murmured, "you're welcome." The Petrova vampire then stood her body straight as she stepped away from the banister and took a step closer to the human girl before she assured Emily, "you don't have to worry about a thing. You can always count on me to keep you safe."

The Petrova vampire stared across at the human girl for another minute or so as she tried to show with her facial expressions that she wasn't lying as she really did want to protect her. It wasn't just because of Darina and Maria's plan, either. Katherine had grown to care for the human girl, unlike her own doppelganger, so Katherine wanted Emily to know that she really would always protect her and keep her safe.

Once Katherine felt like the human doppelganger had believed she was being truthful when she saw Emily silently nod her head, the Petrova vampire turned around and headed off the porch of the Gilbert house. However, before Katherine reached the last step, she glanced over her shoulder with a smirk and wondered teasingly, "how's that doppelganger connection going?"

Emily's green eyes immediately widened in shock when she heard the thing that has been bothering her come from Katherine's mouth. It also annoyed the human girl as she felt like she was the only way that didn't know about it. Even though she knew she probably wouldn't get an answer, Emily decided to try her luck as she asked Katherine, "how do you know about that?"

Katherine carelessly shrugged her shoulders before she murmured, "I've been around for awhile." The Petrova vampire then went to finally leave the Gilbert house but when she heard Emily huff out a sigh, Katherine couldn't help but turn around and tell the human girl, "my sister, Dari, was meant for greater things and she just had that affect on people." Katherine twitched her head to the side for a moment before she added with a nod, "it seems like you have the same ability."

Emily felt like she was still not getting the answers she needed but at least she knew it only had to deal with her and Darina and it wasn't the same for every doppelganger. However, the human girl wanted to know more, so before Katherine continued walking, Emily quickly shouted, "wait!" Once Katherine was facing her again, the human girl then inquired confusingly, "do you know why I feel so connected to the people your sister knew?"

A large smirk instantly grew onto the Petrova vampire's face at the human girl's question as Emily was slowly figuring out the whole doppelganger connection. But instead of giving Emily the answer she wanted, Katherine only uttered, "you'll find out soon," before she swiftly vamp sped through the dark streets of Mystic Falls. The Petrova vampire knew it still wasn't the right time for Emily to find out the whole truth about the connection that she has with Darina since that information wouldn't help until after Darina and Maria's plan begins to be set in motion - which happens right before the sacrifice.

Emily frowned when she realized that she was all alone on the porch and that Katherine was gone along with her explanation. However, the human girl knew she shouldn't be surprised that she didn't get the answer that she wanted as no one ever gives her a straight answer. It just annoyed Emily as she felt like she was the only one that felt this way and was the only one that didn't know the truth. But Emily knew it wasn't the right time to be worrying about some connection with her dead doppelganger, so Emily let out an exhausted huff before she turned around and reentered the Gilbert house to see how everyone was doing after the destruction of the vengeful warlock.

***

It was about an hour and a half later when Emily found herself entering her house again for, thankfully, the last time of the night. The human girl had made sure Bonnie made it home safely before she had spent some time at the Salvatore boarding house with her worried boyfriend. Stefan had wanted to make sure that she really was okay after the whole ordeal with Jonas, so Emily didn't mind lying in bed while they made out for Stefan to finally realize that she's safe.

Now that everything was right in the world, the human girl was currently making her way through the hallway of the Gilbert house after she had slipped out of her boots while she was on the phone with Stefan, who was checking up on her. But instead of going straight to her room for bed, Emily had went a different direction as she heard voices coming from the kitchen.

The human girl instantly smiled when she saw her twin sister and aunt leaning against the kitchen island with a large tub of chocolate ice cream as she was glad everything was back to normal. Emily then gave Elena and Jenna a quick wave as she began to take off the grey cardigan that she had put on since her leather jacket smelled like fire while she also told the Salvatore vampire on the phone, "I just made it home. Yeah, i'll see you tomorrow. I love you too," before she ended the call and made her way into the kitchen to greet two of her favorite people.

"Ooh," the strawberry blonde cooed with a smirk as she slid the tub of ice cream towards her oldest niece before she exclaimed teasingly, "you guys are already saying the 'L' word." Jenna then placed both of her hands over her heart before she exaggeratedly gushed, "my baby is growing up!"

Emily rolled her green eyes at her aunt as she tried to push the blush that she could feel reaching her cheeks away before she mumbled to her laughing sister and aunt, "oh, shut up," as she took a large bite of the chocolaty goodness. Once the laughter had finally calmed down after a moment of them sharing the ice cream back and forth, Emily noticed how silent the house was, so she wondered, "is everyone else asleep?"

Elena nodded her head with a mouthful of ice cream. She then quickly swallowed the sweet dessert before she explained to her twin sister, "John's in mom and dad's room and I think Jer fell asleep once you took Bonnie home."

The human girl couldn't help but let out a small sigh of relief at her sister's answer. The first part she couldn't care less about, though, as she only worries about the people that are actually involved in her life. Emily was just glad that her aunt and siblings were home and would at least be safe through the night. That was all Emily has ever wanted when something big goes down like today as she only wants to keep her loved ones safe - no matter what.

"Ugh," the strawberry blonde groaned after a few minutes had passed by with only the silence of tranquility and the metal spoons scoping up the chocolate ice cream before she straightened up her body and stretched her limbs. "If I go to bed right now, there's a chance I'll wake up hangover-free," Jenna uttered, mostly to herself, as she prayed that it would actually come true in the morning.

However, though, before Jenna could tell her nieces good night and finally go to sleep to hopefully wake up without a headache, the front door began to ring as someone pushed the loud bell. The strawberry blonde glanced at her nieces in confusion as it was almost midnight and mumbled, "wonder who that could be," before she tiredly walked out of the kitchen and towards the front door.

Once the strawberry blonde left, Emily couldn't help but be just as confused as her aunt was. It was weird for someone to be knocking on the door this late. It also puzzled Emily as if it was one of their friends, they would have called first or would have just entered without knocking. The human girl was starting to get a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach the longer she stayed there, so she quickly stood up and told Elena, "come on," before she quickly walked towards the foyer to see who was at the front door.

But the person the Gilbert twins saw was the last people on Earth that they thought would be showing up at midnight on a Tuesday. It was none other than their biological mother. The human girl felt frozen in her spot as she couldn't believe what she was seeing while she tensely watched as Isobel introduced herself with a fake smile, "I'm... Emily and Elena's mother."

On the other hand, the other Gilbert twin was anything but frozen as Elena was feeling nothing but anger at seeing her biological mother. However, Elena knew she couldn't outright attack Isobel in front of the clueless Jenna, so the Gilbert vampire took a deep breath as she squeezed Emily's hand before she mumbled through her clenched teeth, "Isobel."

The Flemming vampire looked passed the shocked human woman and over to her daughters, once she noticed them, with a slight smile before she greeted them with a kind and sweet voice, "hello, girls. It's nice to see you again."

Jenna swiftly swirled around and stared at her two nieces in confusion. "Again?" The strawberry blonde inquired in disbelief. Jenna couldn't believe that Emily and Elena had already met their mother and her boyfriend's supposedly dead wife without telling her.

Emily nervously bit down on her bottom lip while she glanced between her betrayed aunt and her anxious sister as she tried to think of what to say. The human girl could only mumble out, "Jenn..." before her lips just stopped moving. Emily didn't even know where to begin. It wasn't like she and Elena could tell Jenna the truth when their biological mother is a vampire, so Emily quickly avoided Jenna's hazel eyes and squeezed her twin sister's hand as she didn't know what to do.

Thankfully, the awkward silence in the Gilbert foyer didn't last for long between the twins and their aunt before Isobel was speaking directing to the Sommers woman again as she commented with an amused grin, "so, you're the woman who's dating my husband." But when Jenna didn't respond to her statement, Isobel slowly lost her smile before she told the strawberry blonde woman, "I need to speak to my daughters." Isobel then twitched her head to the side before she politely asked, "may I come in?"

Finally, Emily shook herself out of the shock of seeing Isobel as she quickly uttered as she moved to stand slightly in front of her aunt, "hell no." The human girl shook her head as she glared at her biological mother before she snarled, "we don't want you here."

Isobel took a step closer to the door's threshold until she felt the invisible barrier against her black heels before she stated as she stared across at her oldest daughter, "I need to talk to you, Emily." The Flemming vampire then glanced over to Elena before she added with a serious expression, "with the both of you."

Emily shot her biological mother a large smirk before she apologized condescendingly, "sorry, we don't want what you're selling." The human girl then gripped the edge of the front door before she slammed it shut with a heavy huff. Emily closed her eyes for a moment as she tried to calm her heartbeat while she leaned against the door. But when Emily opened them back up, her heart broke as she saw tears in her aunt's hazel eyes.

"You both knew that she was still alive?" The strawberry blonde asked in a scratchy and emotional voice as she glanced between her two nieces. Jenna then shook her head in betrayal when she saw Elena nod her head while Emily avoided looking at her. The Sommers woman let out a humorless chuckle before she interrogated while tears continued to pour down her face, "Ric? John? Did they know?"

Elena took a step closer towards her aunt as she nervously began to play with her fingers. "I-I can explain everything, Jenna," the Gilbert vampire hurriedly promised. Elena couldn't stand the heartbroken look that her aunt was currently giving her and Emily, so she knew it was time to tell Jenna the truth, despite all the dangers that could follow. Elena knew it would be their only option for the strawberry blonde to understand why they never told her about Isobel.

Jenna swiftly wiped the tears from her eyes that were blocking her vision before she snapped, "no!" The strawberry blonde then quickly turned around and headed towards the wooden staircase as she couldn't even look at her nieces right now. Jenna just couldn't believe that not even Emily told her about meeting Isobel when she has been stressing nonstop over what happened to Alaric's not-dead wife.

"Jenna, wait!" The human girl hurriedly uttered as she and Elena quickly jogged up the stairs to reach the strawberry blonde in time. However, unluckily for the Gilbert twins, Jenna slammed the door before they even made it up the stairs. We should have used Elena's speed, Emily thought before she focused back onto her aunt when she heard Elena began to pound on the strawberry blonde's bedroom door.

"Jenna, please. We can explain everything," Emily pleaded as she placed her fist against the white door. The human girl glanced over to her twin sister with her sorrow filled eyes before she let out a sigh when she noticed Elena was listening in with her enhanced hearing. Emily could only assume Jenna was crying as she heard the loud breathing from the other side of the door.

The human girl hated that their aunt was hurting like this, so Emily uttered one last thing as she knew Jenna needed time to process all of this, "I know you feel betrayed right now, but we did this to protect you. We all did. We saw how happy you were, and we didn't want to ruin that." Emily glanced over to her twin sister, who had tears in her eyes, before Emily added softly, "we love you, Jenna, and we're here for you."

Emily waited with her ear pressed up against the door, but when she could only hear Jenna's sobbing, the human girl let out a loud deep breath before she turned around and faced her saddened sister. "We'll fix this," the human girl promised as she pulled Elena into a tight hug before she laid a kiss onto her twin sister's forehead as she was overcome by a deep frown and her thoughts.

The one thought that was stuck on Emily's mind the most, though, was the chance that Jenna wouldn't forgive them for hiding Isobel from her or even worse, that she would hate them. The Gilbert girl sounded confident with Elena as she wanted her twin sister to not blame herself, but Emily was nervous as hell about the outcome of their biological mother showing up out of the blue. Emily just prayed as she and Elena held each other in comfort that they could figure out how to fix all of this in the morning.
