Meanwhile
"My rose! My Rose! What have I done?!" Alexander wept still leaning against the wall Joker had threw him into moments earlier.
Frosty could feel his rage consuming him listening to Alexander's pathetic cries while trying to hold back his own tears as he stared heartbroken at the pool of blood Ember's body had left behind. Never had he felt such sadness watching his best friend carry out the limp woman he called his sister, his little sister. The guilt was overbearing, he had failed his mission completely. Frosty was supposed to keep his family safe, this wasn't supposed to happen!
Without caring for the people around him, he finally began to let the tears flow, fists clenching as he narrowed his jaw and turned around.
"Yeah Alexander what have you done? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!" Frosty roared sarcastically as he stormed towards Alexander, lifted him of the ground by his throat and slammed him into the wall.
"Please get it over with, kill me! I can't live without her" Alexander continued to sob pleading with Frosty.
A part of him wanted to end his miserable life right there and then but killing him would be a sign of mercy and Frosty had none.
"Killing you would be wayyyy too easy! No the boss and I have something much more for painful waiting for you! You're about to see what hell really looks like!" Frosty laughed hysterically reaching for his gun and pistol whipping Alexander as hard as he could across the skull, trying to release the tiniest bit of anger he could.
It was taking everything in him to remain in control and feeling himself about to snap he threw the now limp traitor into the arms of another goon.
"Get him out my sight!" He snapped with a look of disgust before turning to face Charles.
A moment of silence ran between the two men as Frosty ran his hands down his face and sighed.
"I failed" he spoke blankly trying to rub away the tears that continued to fall.
"You did all you could Frost, we all did and I know you're upset but we need to continue the mission" Charles exhaled taking a look at the amount of chaos in the room.
He could see the bodies of his friends among with the rest of Alexander's men swimming in their own blood, their eyes still open but dead.
"Where is she?" Frosty barely whispered, pictures of his golden headed niece plaguing his mind.
He prayed he wasn't too late to save her, she was now all they had left of Ember and if she was gone too then they might as well all be dead.
Frosty could feel the bile rising in his throat taking in the sights as Charles led him down a series of corridors. This place was the definition of hell, how Ember had managed to survive so long baffled me. She was a strong woman but not even the toughest of men could survive here without going completely mad. The worst part of all this was the fact they weren't that far away from Gotham, Frosty had been here before, they all had in the past whether it be for deals or murder.
How could they not have known or even thought about this place?!
He felt his heart almost stop as Charles led him to an old rustic door that was stained red with either blood or paint, God he hoped it was paint.
The inside was a lot different than what he expected, it looked like a normal daycare centre.
It was actually quite a relief to know Diamond wasn't living in filth and from what he had heard Elsie had taken care of Peanut as if she was her own which is all they could of hoped for.
"Elsie! It's Charles, it's ok, you're safe! Please bring the children out" Charles called out softly stepping further into the room and facing what appeared to be a bedroom.
"Charles, is that really you?" The soft voice of an elderly woman called out cautiously.
You could hear and feel the fear coming from her as she tried to remain strong for the two toddlers hidden within the room along side of her.
"Yes it's really me Elsie, please come out" Charles reassured her calmly.
The two men stood patiently as Elsie slowly made her way into the main room, a look of terror, relief and sadness on her face. Behind her followed four little legs as the children wrapped their arms around her and hid themselves from view.
Frosty had never felt relief and happiness like it seeing the first glimpses of his missing niece.
"Peanut!" He croaked out loudly, dropping to his knees and letting the tears fall once more.
"FWSTYYYYYYYY!" A loud squeal echoed around the room and coming out from behind Elsie, Diamond ran as fast as her baby legs could go and threw herself into his arms, a big smile on her face at the sight of her uncle.
"Hey there princess, uncle Frosty has missed you so much" he sobbed kissing her curls, holding her so tightly against him like he feared she would suddenly disappear again.
"Wuv you fwsty!" Diamond chirped knowing exactly what to do to make him feel better.
"I love you too princess" he chuckled rocking her from side to side, he couldn't wait to take her home again where he'd never let her from his sight until the day he died.
Charles could feel himself choking up as he looked at the scene in front of him until he heard Elsie's sobs and looking directly at her he felt himself smile, there was something else he needed to do.
Walking towards her he held out his hand to the cute half Japanese boy stood beside her.
"Hey there Zen, I think it's time we got you back to your mom" Charles grinned picturing Krissy's delighted face in his mind.
Shyly nodding his head Zen grabbed Charles's hand and let himself be guided out the room. Charles felt bad, he wasn't sure what state Krissy would be in and even though he didn't want to scare Zen it was important the child was in the arms of his mother as soon as possible.
Krissy on the other hand was going out her mind!
It seemed hours since she had last seen Ember and she feared the worst, her friend had never been gone this long. She had cried, she had prayed and now all there was left to do was wait. Krissy didn't want to be alone again and she certainly didn't want her only friend to die. It had been bad enough when Ivy and Harley died but to lose Ember would be the end of her world. They were meant to get out here together with their babies to start a new life away from danger but it looked like Krissy would end up alone once again, fearing for the life of her child every second of the day.
The sound of the locks rattling on the cell door had her backing into the corner for protection.
Was this it?
Were they finally going to kill her?
Oh god who would look after her baby?!
"Please! Please don't kill me!" Krissy cried out as the door swung open with a thud.
"Momma! Momma!" She heard Zen call out excitedly.
Wait!
Zen?
No it couldn't be!
They had made it clear she wouldn't see him again, there was no way he was here!
"Momma!" He called out again as he ran over to her and gently placed his hand on her cheek.
She could smell him, she could feel him!
Opening her eyes she found herself lost in a sea of glistening brown orbs and letting out the biggest sob Krissy took the boy in her arms.
He was really here, her baby was back in her arms where he belonged. She didn't care what happened now, she was happy, she was alive again.
"Oh Zen! Oh my baby how I've missed you! I can't believe you're here, look how big you've gotten! Oh god I love you so much!" Krissy wept standing up with Zen in her arms and kissing his face.
"Momma! Pizza! I want pizza!" Zen demanded with a cheeky grin making her chuckle.
"Good idea kid, pizza sounds great!" Charles exclaimed feeling his stomach growl at the word.
"Charles, is it......is it over?" Krissy gulped holding onto Zen tightly as she stared at the only man who had ever been kind to her in this hell hole.
"Yes my dear it's all over, you're safe" he smiled taking her hand and leading her out the cell for the last time ever.
"Where's Ember?" Krissy whispered after a few moments, already terrified of the answer.
"She was shot, Joker has her now. I'm sorry I don't know if she made it" Charles voice was shaky and full of sadness as he replied.
Krissy wanted to breakdown, scream and cry until there was nothing left but all she could do was nod weakly and bury her head into her child's hair.
"There we go, that should keep you warm!" Frosty grinned wrapping Diamond up in his jacket and holding her to his chest as they made their way to the exit.
There waiting was Charles, Elsie, the young boy from the nursery and sad looking blonde woman who he guessed was Krissy. Frosty's heart went out to the poor girl, she had endured things no one could ever understand and it would certainly take a while for her to recover but as Ember's friend she was now no longer alone. They would take her and her child in and treat her like a cherished family member, it's what Ember would have wanted plus the girl deserved a new life.
"Ready to go home?" Frosty greeted them as he gently bounced the excited child in his arms.
"Hwme?" Diamond questioned tilting her head and staring at him in wonder.
"Yes my love, we're going home" he cooed placing a big kiss on her cheek and stepping out into the snow.
"She's so beautiful, she looks just like her" Krissy sobbed quietly beside him making Frosty tear up once again.
He was so happy to be going home especially with Diamond but the thought of waited for them there filled him with dread.
