I don't own One Piece

....................

My sketchbook sat in my lap as I added in finishing touches to my newest picture. The sun had set, leaving the moon and some artificial light to guide me. Most of the crew was sleeping, but since Zoro was on watch he was left awake.

What I had sat next to him he didn't seem to pay much attention. Not that I cared, but if he had wanted to be left alone he would have said so.

Pausing on my picture, I looked at Zoro. My eyes skimmed over him to his swords. I had spent a good amount with the crew today, so their images were seated in my brain. Zoro, however, had been sleeping and I found it wrong to disturbs someone in their sleep, unless it was Mamoru. He was the only one I would do so, solely because it irritates him. Studying the details of Zoro's swords, I looked back at my picture.

Adding more details to the three towards, I nodded to myself. Taking a moment to look at the picture I held it out in my arms, putting distance between myself and the picture. Seeming pleased, for the most part, with the finished product I lowered my sketchbook and whipped my hands on my pants. I could never say I was completely happy with any drawing, then again what artist absolutely loves their own work?

Smiling at Zoro, I finally spoke. "You seem much more quiet. Like Robin." I muttered. "It's quite nice. Especially after everyone else on this ship shouts."

Zoro looked at me, then smirked. "You'll get used to the shouting, as well as Luffy's crazy antics."

I giggled, standing up. "If you don't mind, I would like to soar sometime. I'm not the best with swords, that particular blade never exactly worked well with me, but I can use a knife well."

His smirk only grew. "I guess it wouldn't hurt. Just tell me when you want to do it."

Smiling I turned away from him and yawned. "Well, I'll be heading to bed now." I paused my steps. "Ah, Zoro, thank you for letting me join you. I was able to get the details better on your swords." Once he grunted in response, I made my way to the room I shared with Robin and Nami. Passing by the boy's room all I could hear was loud snoring and occasional sleep talk. Mostly consisting from Luffy muttering about meat.

"Even in their sleep their noisy." I muttered, a smile tugging at my lips. "Just like at the bar."

Making it to the girls room, I quietly opened the door. Both Nami and Robin were sound asleep. Unlike the boy's room, ours was much more peaceful. Since there weren't as many females we had much more room. Along with that, everything was neat and organized. Though that's really just the perks of rooming with these two particular females. I doubt Robin could handle anything messy, or that Nami could draw her maps in unorganized work space.

Yawning, I sat my sketchbook on my nightstand then plopped down on the fluffy bed. Not a moment sooner did I fall asleep to the soft rocking of the ship.

...................

"Nami-swan! Robin-san! Katsu-chan!" Sanji sang, "I made you breakfast."

I blinked as Sanji carefully placed a plate of beautifully delicious food in front of Nami, Robin, and I. Nami and Robin inhaled the aroma, smiling.

"Thank you, Sanji-kun!" Nami smiled.

Hearts formed in his eyes. "Anything for you, Nami-swan!"

Then, much unlike us females, Sanji threw the other plates of food at the males of our crew.

"Yosh!" Luffy grinned, shoving food in his mouth. "Thank's Sanji!"

Seeing Luffy's arm stretch, I blinked as Sanji quickly kicked Luffy. "Don't touch Katsu's food, Baka Captain!"

I laughed and took my first bite of Sanji's cooking. Immediately, I stopped and my eyes widened. His food, I could actually get flavor from it! I blinked, swallowing the food and looked at my plate in shock.

Sanji quickly noticed my look, and a look of worry crossed his face. "Katsu-chan, is everything okay? Do you not like the food?"

The crew looked at me, wondering as well. I shook my head. "No, that's not it. I... I can actually taste it!"

Nami raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

My fave turned red as embarrassment quickly set in. I didn't have a choice but to tell them now. "I'm anosmia."

It appeared that only Chopper understood. "What's that?" Luffy asked, his mouth full.

"It's a medical condition that leaves her with no smell. Which also dulls her sense of taste greatly, since half of our taste comes from our smell." Chopper explained.

Luffy's eyes widened, "You can't taste food?!"

I sighed, ruffling my hair. "Not for the most part. But Sanji's food... I can actually taste it. It's amazing..."

Sanji held onto his shirt where his heart is, tears forming in his eyes. "Katsu-chan! I will make it my mission to cook you the best and most delicious foods for your pallet!"

A smile lit up my face, "Thank you, Sanji!" Taking another, quite blissful, bite my smile remained on my face.

"Awesome!" Luffy grinned, pointing to the window. "It's snowing!" Shoving himself away from the table, Luffy ran outside followed by Chopper and Usopp.

I paused, feeling the cool blast of icy air that entered which the opened door. "Snow?" I muttered.

Robin smiled from across the table at me. "That's right. You haven't seen any snow yet, have you? Since the island you lived on was a spring island."

I shook my head, "I haven't."

Robin giggled, "Let me get you a coat, then you can go see it."

Grinning widely, I nodded. "Thank you, Robin!"

Since I didn't have a coat, Robin was kind enough to lend me hers. However, much to her distress, I refused any shoes. I wanted to feel the snow on my feet, just like everything else.

Taking my first step outside, I shivered at the burning cold. My toes curled gathering crisp white snow between them. Letting out a breath of air, I noticed how it was visible.

The sunny was covered in a blanket of white. More dots of snow fell from the sky, speckling my red hair with spots of white. I smiled, a laugh escaping me.

"It's so pretty!" I exclaimed.

Then it happened. My body stilled and my vision blurred. My hearing went fuzzy before completely going out. The sight of my crew members were disappearing and morphing into something else.

A red haired man sat in front of me, a gentle smile on his face.

"Come on kid, it's okay." He smiled, placing his hand on my head. A overwhelming feeling of sadness filled me, as well as the comfort of the man. "Your mom wouldn't want you crying." Even his smile held a hint of sadness.

"B-but..." I stammered, my voice much younger and innocent.

He stopped, as well as I. A soft speck of white fell from the sky. Our eyes followed the snow until it reached my hand, where it melted. Blinking, I looked up at the sky, seeing more snow falling.

My tears stopped as I looked at the snow. "Momma always liked the snow." I whispered.

He nodded, still looking at the snow. Then, he looked at me and smiled. "Ah, that's her way of telling you to smile."

Swallowing the lump in my throat, I forced a big smile on my face. "O-Okay Momma! I'll keep smiling for you."

He laughed softly, holding his hand out to me. I looked up at him, his straw hat securely on his head, like always. "Where are we going?"

"We're going on an adventure." He leaned down again, grinning. "Say, didn't you say you wanted to be a pirate?"

Blinking, the memory faded away. I didn't know how long I was standing there, but it seemed that Chopper was now beside me. Looking around, I noticed that it had stopped snowing. However, the blanket of snow remained.

"Ah, Katsu, you're back." Chopper muttered. Still processing what had happened, I only nodded. Chopper looked up at me, "You okay?"

Clearing my throat, I managed another nod. "Yeah..."

It was the same man from before. Whoever he was, two things were clear. Luffy obviously knew him well, since he knows his name and he has his hat. Along with that, whoever he was, he was someone that comforted me and protected me. At least, those were the feelings I got whenever I was around him, according to my few memories.

"Luffy," I found my voice. I looked up at my childish captain, who had looked up form his snowman at my voice.

"Huh?" He asked.

"Can you tell me more about the person who gave you that hat?" I asked.

He grinned, placing his hand on his hat. "Oh, Shanks? Sure, but why?" He asked, his grin still on his face.

"I'm curious about him." I smiled.

He blinked, then laughed. "Oh! Okay!"

While the smile grew on my face, I went to take a step. However, as soon as I went to place my feet on the ground, my ankle rocked as I found I couldn't feel my feet. That resulted in my face in the snow. Luffy's laughter sounded with Usopp's as soon as they saw me faceplant the snow. I didn't need to feel my face burning to know it was bright red.

"Katsu! Are you okay?" Chopper asked, running to my side once more.

I sighed, my face still in the snow as I replied. "My feet are numb." However, it seemed that most of my words were muffled by the snow.

"Um, what" He asked, tilting his head to the side.

Looking away in embarrassment, I answered. "My feet are numb."

This time he laughed. "Well, you should be wearing shoes."

I puffed out my cheeks. "No. I don't like shoes." Looking at Luffy, I pulled myself into a sitting position, tucking my freezing feet under me. "Go on about Shanks."

"Oh yeah!" Luffy blinked, a grin forming on his face. "I met him when I was a kid! He's the one who gave me this hat. He's the main reason I decided I wanted to be a pirate, well him and Sato."

I tilted my head, the name bringing a small familiar tingle at the back of my head. "Who's Sato?"

"He's the kid that was with Shanks." Luffy answered, his childish grin still in place. "He didn't like me at first, but we became friends." A pout appeared on his face. "Though, it's still stupid how Shanks would let him go with him on his adventure while I couldn't."

Luffy then paused, blinking as he looked at me. "Actually, now that I think of it. You look a lot like Sato."

...................................................

After Luffy's little, and I mean little, talk about Shanks the snow had started to melt. Once the sun had made its appearance, any chill from the snow was gone. It was actually incredibly humid and hot now. As it was quite uncomfortable, I had decided that it was a good time to retire to the aquarium to work on some sketches.

I wanted to first get down the memory. Which would consist of three different drawings. The first was a three year old girl with short crimson hair crying with a straw hat wearing red haired man squatting down with a soft smile. The second would be the snow starting to appear, and looks of surprise on both of their faces. On the last picture, I would draw the man holding out his hand, but it would be towards me not the three year old.

Robin was also in the aquarium, but since she was reading we didn't bother each other. Though while we weren't making any noise, that didn't mean it was silent. Even where we were we could hear the crazy antics of our crew. It seemed though that Franky was doing the entertaining now.

My legs sat crossed indian style in the seat, my sketchbook laid on top of my right knee. A few spar pencils laid around me, in case the one I was using broke. My hair was pulled in a ponytail, only leaving a few strands loose to frame my face.

I had just completed my outline when Sanji came dancing down. "Robin-swan! Katsu-chan! I brought you both some refreshments!" He sang, handing each of us a orange colored drink.

"Thank you, cook-san." Robin smiled.

"Thanks Sanji." I smiled, placing the drink beside me before getting back to work on my drawing.

..........................................................

Nami had lead me to the bathroom not long ago. She had also warned me of the boy's habit of walking in, either purposely (meaning Sanji) or not (mostly meaning Luffy). With my clothes still on, I made another glance at the door to make sure it was indeed locked. Steam was filling the air, making it hard to see anything, just another precaution I took while I bathed.

I didn't want anyone seeing the marks on my back. There weren't many, but it was enough to shame me. There weren't any heroic battle stories behind them, at least I assumed so. Especially since I found I had these when I woke up that one day. Which lead me to bad assumptions of where the scars came from.

Knowing I wasn't going to be able to take a bath, without having the possibly of drowning pitifully, I had subbed for a shower. Being in the water weakened me, like most devil fruit users, and I didn't enjoy that feeling at all. There was no way I was going to test my bad luck and take a bath anyway, there was no doubt in my mind that I would indeed drown.

I can already see it now. Being in the crew for only one week and already dying. Not even any awesome heroic death. Nope, I would die by drowning. In the bath tub at that. The thought was almost enough to make me laugh, yet I didn't. Because I knew it was likely to happen.

Sighing, I rinsed my hair before shutting the water off. Closing my eyes for a moment, I stood still. Everything was quiet. The only sound in the bathroom was an occasional drip of water. It was relaxing, but it was too quiet. Even with my few days with the Straw Hats, I learned there was no such thing as silence.

Quickly I dried off and threw on some clothes. The last thing I wanted was to end up in a fight while naked. Just as I slipped on my shorts I heard it.

Chopper, Usopp, and Nami's shouts of distress. Quickly followed by a canon fire. Holding onto the wall, I steadied myself as the ship rocked violently.

Fumbling with the bandages, I managed a sloppy job at wrapping my arm. It would hold until after the fight, then I would fix it. Throwing open the door, I ran towards the deck. One thing Mamoru had taught me, never go anywhere without a weapon. Even if you're taking a shower, you never know when you'll need it. Of course, this was the first time I had actually needed my weapon straight out of the shower, and now I could be extremely thankful for his small advice. I twirled the twin set of daggers in my hand.

Quickly making it to the deck my eyes widened. There were two navy ships, one on each side of us. It appeared that the whole crew was on deck as well. Though I quickly noticed how unenthusiastic Nami, Chopper and Usopp were at the idea of fighting.

"How the hell did we end up beside two marine ships?" I demanded, "I was only in the shower for ten minutes!"

Luffy, who was standing across the deck from me, grinned. "It happens."

"Straw Hat Luffy, surrender now!" A marine captain ordered from the ship to our right. My eyes rolled, why do they even say that? I honestly doubt any pirate would actually surrender.

Our captain only laughed, holding his arm. "Nah. Gum Gum Pistol!" He shouted, stretching his arm out before slinging it towards the captain.

As soon as his attack hit, everyone started attacking. The trio of cowards ran towards me, or rather towards the inside of the ship.

Marines boarded our ship and the monster trio went to cause chaos on the marine ships. Luffy going to deal with the ship that he had just attacked, while Zoro and Sanji attacked the other ship.

Counting the coward trio out, that left Robin, Franky and I to fight. I twirled the daggers in my hands before charging at a marine that was gaining on Chopper.

Sliding my dagger up his sword, sparks flew around us. I narrowed my eyes on him, a frown on my face. "Now, now. Don't you think it's unfair to attack someone while their back is to you?"

He glared at me, "Who are you to say anything, pirate?" He spat at the word he intended as an insult.

A grin tugged at my lips at his intended insult. "Damn, I just love being called that." Pulling back suddenly, I knocked him off balance. When he staggered forward, I brought my knee up and met his chest. He grunted in pain, crumbling forward. Quickly I brought my elbow onto his back, closer to his neck, knocking him to the ground. When his head bounced off the deck, he was fully knocked out.

Turning around I smiled at the three, "You guys okay?"

They managed a nod from their quivering figures. Chopper's eyes grew big as he pointed behind me. "Look out!"

Quickly side stepping the attack, I looked to the owner of the sword. Sighing, I sent my leg out sending a kick to his stomach. Upon my hit, he staggered into Franky, who quickly knocked him out with a loud "Super!"

"I don't have a wanted poster for you." I turned around sharply at the man's voice. His sword was drawn as he looked at me calculating. "Who are you?"

"That's a good question." I frowned, moving quickly as I slashed through his chest. "Why don't you tell me?"

...............

After taking care of the marines, we managed to sail away with no damage done to the ship. Along with a successful escape from marines, Nami had delivered exciting news. It would seem that a island should appear in a few days.

Luffy sat beside me, fishing. Like normal, I was drawing, this one was our little adventure with the marines. Which Luffy would comment on every now and then, as he just couldn't keep his eyes to himself.

"Be, Katsu, what was the name of your island?" Luffy asked.

I paused my pencil to look up at him. "What?"

He was staring at me with a serious face. "The island you were on, what was its name? I don't remember what it is called."

A smile formed on my face. "Ah, it's names Gold's Island." Luffy paused, trying to place the name. Feeling the need to not have my Captain struggle mentally, I told him. "As in the pirate king, Gol D. Roger."

Instantly, he lit up. "Really?! Why?"

I thought Mamoru had already told him this stuff. Though, with Luffy he either wasn't paying attention, or he just forgot. Either way, I couldn't help but smile. "When he was sailing he first discovered that island. They didn't do anything about it at the time, so when they disbanded Mamoru went back. He was the navigator, so obviously he remembered the way back. Seeing as it wasn't inhabited he took half of the island to build a town. Apparently that half was harder to get to, and he left little clues for pirate navigators. The other half he left alone, in case any marines happened to stumble across it they think it's a place for wild beast. In memory of his captain, he named it that."

"Just like Mamoru intended, it's a rest stop for pirates, and a safe place for retiring pirates. Of course, not every pirate goes there, but the ones that have had their adventure and just want peace do. That's also why you don't see many kids there." I explained. "After all, not many pirates would quit in their prime years."

Of course Yumi had wanted to have her family there. She was just unfortunate.

"Woah," Luffy muttered, "So, that island was discovered by the pirate King?" I nodded to his question, bringing a grin to his face. "That's so cool! Maybe I'll discover an island too!"

Amused at my captain, I nodded and resumed my sketch. There was honestly no doubt in my mind that Luffy could do that.

.......................

End of Chapter 7! So there was a little info on Katsu's past, what do you guys think of it? Who's that kid that Luffy mentioned? Any ideas for Katsu's bounty name? I'm still trying to figure that out, so she has yet to get a bounty because of that... -_-

So I'll be doing a little island before Brook comes in, as a way for you all to get to know Katsu a little better. It won't be too long, so don't worry about that.

This is not edited.
