Chapter 6- My Journey Begins

I don't own One Piece

Katsu's POV

......................

I had just finished helping the crew load everything, including my own belongings. M belongings didn't take up much space, as it really was only my sketch books, a few weapons, and clothes. I managed to luck out as the girls room had another bed, apparently waiting for another crew member. We were scheduled to be leaving any minute. My sketch book was still in my hand, hardly ever leaving my sight.

My toes curled around the lush grass on the deck of the ship. I had been on a couple other pirate ships, such as Taro's and a Whitebeard pirate's ship. This ship was much different from those other ships. Not only did it had grass on the deck, a feature I quite enjoyed, but it even had a tree completed with a swing. It was far from intimidating, which I had thought to be the main feature of pirate ships.

If anything, it looked rather childish to me. From the childish swing, to even the lion on the mast. Perhaps it was meant to look fierce, but to me it just looked cuddly. However, from my time with the crew I felt as though the ship really matched them. Especially Luffy.

"Set sail!" Luffy shouted, a grin on his face. "I'm ready for our next adventure!"

The sails went down, showing the strawhat symbol as the wind picked up. We started moving away from the docks, slowly. My back was turned towards the island, my heart starting to pump faster as I realized I was about to leave the place I had called home. Gold's island, my security blanket from whatever memories were hidden from me.

I didn't want to look back. The anger from Mamoru and Yumi still lingered, and my stubborn side didn't want to turn around hoping to see them. However, every inch the ship made towards the great oceans, I felt myself wanting to run back onto the docks and fling myself back into the loud town filled with pirates.

"Katsu!"

"Oi, kid!"

My eyes widened as I looked up, my body stiffening. Without any control of my body I found myself turning around towards the loud shouts. My hands grasped the rails of the Sunny, my mouth opening in shock. Standing at the docks was Mamoru and Yumi, behind them the whole town. All were waving widely while shouting their goodbyes and safe wishes.

"Be careful, kid!" Mamoru shouted, a rare grin on his face.

"Katsu-chan, make a great name for yourself! We'll be waiting for it!" Yumi cupped her hands around her mouth to help carry her voice.

"Mamoru... Yumi..." I muttered, my eyes starting to burn. Now it made sense.

"Y-You idiot!" I shouted, covering my eyes with my arm as tears fell from my eyes.

"Bye!" Mamoru shouted, his laughter filling my ears.

Wiping my eyes, I jumped up on the railing of the ship. With a big smile and more tears falling I waved my arms. "Bye Mamoru, Yumi, Jiro! Bye everyone! Thank you!"

The tears kept falling from my eyes, a big grin on my face as I continued to wave at the town. I didn't care what my crew would think of me crying. This has been my home, and now I was leaving it for a crew I met a week ago. However, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Now I am officially a pirate, a Strawhat pirate. The government better be prepared for me.

...................................................

It has been hours since I left home. I still stood by the edge of the ship, even as the island had disappeared a few moments ago. The panic I had felt when we started leaving had disappeared soon after Mamoru and Yumi said their good byes. Perhaps it was really just me wanting to say bye to them.

The crew was doing their own thing now, which left me to enjoy the crisp air and wonderful sun. Looking down at my sketchbook I smiled. Pulling a pencil form my pocket, I always kept one handy, I turned to a new page.

There, I drew a quick outline of the strawhats standing on the deck. Once the outline was established, I started going over each of the pirates individually adding in details. I wanted to get this page finished soon though, since I also wanted to add in a picture of the town's good bye.

"Oi, Katsu!" Jumping slightly, I looked up from my sketchbook. Luffy stood behind me, yet he had yelled like I wouldn't hear him.

"Yes Luffy?" I asked calmly, placing my pencil in the book before closing it.

"I I figured you would want to officially meet everyone." He laughed, a big grin on his face. Everyone had gathered on the deck, and it appeared Sanji had brought some alcohol and food.

"I'm the captain!" Luffy grinned, as if I didn't already know. "Nami's the navigator." She rolled her eyes at Luffy but smiled at me. "Zoro's the first mate. Usopp is our sniper."

I raised an eyebrow at Usopp. It surprised me that he could do something other than lie. Unless, of course, he hand managed to lie his way into being a grew sniping king. That thought didn't surprise me, as I realized Luffy would probably believe it.

"Chopper is the doctor. Oh, Sanji's our cook! He makes really good food!" To that the curly browed man smiled at me. "Frankie is our shipwright. And Robin is our archeologist." Luffy finished.

I smiled at the crew. "It's nice to 'officially' meet all of you."

"Question." Luffy cut in. "Can you play an instrument? Are you a musician?"

I couldn't help the laugh that bubbled out of me. There was absolutely no chance of me being a musician. Many people claimed my voice could be a weapon, as it typically made people's ears bleed. "No, sorry Luffy."

He pouted before shrugging. "Oh well. You'll be our artist then."

I blinked, "Artist? Are you sure? I mean, I don't really think that's useful, nor am I actually that good." My drawing were really just a way for me to make sure I remembered everything in full detail. Though, there was the nagging at the back of my mind reminding of my dream to draw the world.

Sanji handed me a glass of alcohol. "Don't belittle your artwork, Katsu-chan." His eyes, I realized, were replaced by hearts.

I blinked, but I wasn't able to say anything as Franky grinned while posing. "Yeah! Your pictures are SUPER!"

That brought a giggle out of me. Nami nodded, holding her glass closer to herself. "It's true. Also, by you being our artist it's like you'll be able to make a picture book of our adventures."

"A picture book, huh?" I muttered. The only reason I had started drawing wasn't because I found I really enjoyed it, though I did, it was because of a fear I had of losing my memories again. "That sounds wonderful!"

"Yosh!" Luffy grinned, "Katsu, what's your dream?"

"To draw the world!" I answered without thinking, a grin forming on my face.

Luffy raised his glass, everyone following with a grin. "Welcome to our crew! Campai!"

Throwing my arm in the air as well, I closed my eyes and grinned. I think I was going to like being a straw hat pirate.

.............................

Our celebration had started off easy enough. Then it managed to escelate into a drinking competition. At least,  it turned into a competition between Zoro, Nami, and I.

I grinned, my cheeks only a soft pink from the alcohol. "I'm telling you guys. I grew up in a bar, and I know how to hold my liquor."

Zoro smirked, holding another bottle of sake. "We'll see about that."

"Whoever wins gets a thousand beli!" Nami cheered, lifting another shot.

"I didn't agree to those terms." Zoro frowned.

She smirked, "Zoro, if you win I'll  cut your debt in half, and if you'll lose I'll double it."

He seemed determined. "Yosh. Cook, bring more sake."

I blinked, "Wait, we're betting money now?"

Nami grinned, "Yeah! How much do you wanna bet?"

I chuckled, gulping down another shot. "I don't have any money! Mamoru didn't exactly pay me. Instead, as he put it, I got life skills. Such as fighting, and the life necessities  clothes, shelter, and food."

Nami frowned, placing her shot down waiting for more alcohol. "So you don't have any money to lose?"

I shook my head, "Nope. I'm not complaining though, he didn't have to take me in or anything."

Nami raised an eyebrow. "Take you in?"

That reminded me that only Zoro and Luffy knew that I wasn't actually born on the island. Everyone else probably assumed I was somehow related to Mamoru.

Sanji poured Nami and I some more alcohol, then slammed the bottle in front of Zoro.

Picking up the shot, each of us downed the alcohol. Our cheeks were slightly pink but that seemed about it.

"Yeah. Mamoru isn't related to me at all. He just happened to be there when some pirates helped me." I said.

Now it seemed as though I had the crews attention. Luffy and Zoro were interested as well, hoping for more information. "Pirates helped you?" Usopp asked.

I nodded. While I wasn't drunk, the alcohol had helped me loosen up. Talking about my past just seemed to spill out now. "I was a prisoner on a Marine ship. From what I remember Taro and Mamoru telling me, it seemed like I was supposed to go to Impel Down. But since it seemed like I was just a child of a pirate, they decided something different." I explained, gulping down more alcohol.

"Of course, when I woke up I didn't remember anything. All I have of my past is the few memories." There was also a marine brand on my left arm, which I kept bandaged at all times.

I glanced at Chopper. He was going to be my doctor now, perhaps I should tell him some things. "Ah, Chopper, can I talk with you, privately?"

He blinked, then quickly nodded. "Yeah! Come on!"

...........................
The little reindeer had taken me to his office, where I now sat. My fist clenched onto my shorts as I tried to keep calm in the office. I didn't have a lot of trust for doctors, something always made me wary of them.

Chopper sat in his swirly chair, looking at me. "Okay, Katsu, nobody's around."

"First of all, you need to know a few things." I muttered. "I don't trust doctors a lot. As a matter of fact, you're the only Doctor besides Jiro I even let treat me."

He seemed shocked by this, but let me continue.

"I'd rather not go into much detail, but there are a few things different about my health." I said. "As the ships Doctor, I figured you should know. Firstly, pain medication has no effect on me. So, please, don't try to use it. It will only be a waste of your supplies. Secondly, I do heal faster, but not enough to make a big difference. Like those stitches earlier, they healed quite quick because of my healing, as well as the fact that you did a really good job stitching. And lastly, sometimes I get flashes. Those normally leave me standing spaced out for a while. Depending on what it is, I may or may not go into shock." I explained. There were more things, but these were the main facts I figured he should know.

Halfway through my explaining, Chopper had started to write everything down. Once he finished he looked at me.

"Katsu-chan..." He muttered. "What exactly happened to you?"

I was silent, my head down letting my hair shield my eyes. Forcing a smile on my face I looked at Chopper. "Don't worry about it, Chopper. It doesn't matter."

He stared at me, not thrilled with not knowing. However, he knew I did not want to talk about it. "Okay, but just remember, if you need to talk, I'm here."

No longer forcing a smile, I stood up and gave a genuine smile. "Okay, Doctor." He blushed and grinned.

"Shut up you bastard! Calling me Doctor won't make me happy!" He giggled, covering his mouth with his hooves.

I blinked. "He sure looks happy..."

.........................

Zoro ended the drinking contest with a tie. It seemed that Nami and Zoro had drunk around twenty bottles of booze. Perhaps it was a good time I stepped out with Chopper. My tolerance was high, but I don't think it compared to those two.

......................

End of chapter 6! Did you guys know that this many chapters actually took up one notebook? Yes, I'm one of those whoa likes to handwrite all my work before posting it... And no, my handwriting is not big, but for some reason it took an entire notebook for 6 chapters, or 7 if we include the prologue...

Anyhow, I hope you're all enjoying the book so far! And sorry for the late posting, I've been busy with a few things. But I figured since Becoming a Ninja is almost fully rewritten I could post a chapter on here. I'm really enjoying writing this story, it gives me a break from my Naruto fanfic, which I do love but do need some space with.

This is not edited.
