Chapter 20 Bloom

It was the night before the wedding, and the palace buzzed with an electrifying sense of anticipation. The rhythmic beats of drums echoed outside, creating a lively atmosphere as the men indulged in revelry and celebration. Meanwhile, within the palace walls, the women were undergoing their final fittings for their exquisite dresses. Tradition dictated that the bride and groom were to be absolutely forbidden from seeing each other on this eve of matrimony.

Meera gracefully descended the grand staircase, adorned in the delicate layers of her ceremonial attire. As she stepped into the palace garden, a haven of serenity awaited her. A group of newlywed ladies gathered under the soft glow of torches, which cast a golden hue upon their animated faces. The air was infused with the sweet fragrance of ripe fruit and blooming flowers, creating a sensory tapestry that enveloped the gathering.

Servants moved gracefully among the women, offering trays laden with drinks and pastries. The tinkling sound of laughter mingled with the subtle chime of jewelry, creating a symphony of joy and camaraderie. Meera joined the group, the delicate fabrics of her dress rustling softly as she took her place among them.

"Oh, good. You're here," Iris spoke, her regal presence commanding attention as she spotted Meera. "Come closer, my dear."

Meera politely smiled at the ladies in the garden, their eyes full of mischief as she made her way over to sit beside the queen. The gathering was enveloped in an air of camaraderie and shared secrets, an exclusive moment among women.

"Where's Marcella and June?" Meera inquired, taking a seat beside Iris.

"This ceremony is not for them," Iris smiled knowingly. "They will have their turn when it is time for them to become a bride."

Meera found herself at a loss for words, glancing around as one of the young ladies stepped forward.

"Meera, why don't you come join us for a game of cards?" the girl, Laiza, extended her hand, her eyes sparkling with a hidden agenda.

"Go on," Iris nudged gently, her gaze holding a mysterious glint.

Meera rose from her seat and walked over to the small table where the women sat, a sense of intrigue lingering in the air. They graciously created space for her on the pillows, their smiles concealed behind the cards they held.

"Meera, this is Charlotte, Malia, and Zoya," Laiza introduced, each woman acknowledging Meera with a nod or a smile.

"Hello," Meera greeted with a warm smile, recognizing some of the faces from the court. They had all embraced matrimony in the past year. "I have to warn you all, I am terrible at playing cards."

"Don't worry," Zoya winked mischievously. "We won't really be playing."

"No?" Meera arched her brow inquisitively as Iris stood up behind her, clearing her throat, signaling the beginning of a ceremony that held an air of both tradition and mystery.

"Alright, ladies," Iris announced. "Enjoy yourselves. I'm off to take care of some wedding business."

Laiza bowed her head respectfully as Iris turned her gaze toward her. Meera couldn't help but wonder about the secret proceedings as the girls lowered their cards and shifted their attention back to her.

"So, Princess," Charlotte began, clearing her throat. "This is your blooming ceremony. Every bride-to-be must have a blooming ceremony the night before their wedding."

Meera, intrigued, questioned, "What is it for? And how come I've never been to one before?"

"That's because it's only for married women or soon-to-be married women," Laiza explained with a glimmer in her eyes.

Curiosity painted Meera's expression as she looked around at the assembled women. "What do we do?"

"We teach you," Zoya said, a warm smile playing on her lips, sparking giggles among the others.

"During a blooming ceremony, newlywed women pass on their advice and knowledge to the bride," Laiza clarified. "It is our job to prepare you for your wedding night."

Meera felt her cheeks warm instantly at the mention of the impending event. "For my what?"

"Don't be shy," Charlotte laughed, a shared understanding passing between the women. "We've all experienced this."

"And soon, you will experience yours," Zoya added, her words carrying a mixture of wisdom and anticipation.

"I..." Meera began, silently thanking the gods for the dim light in the garden. She was certain her face matched the vibrant red of the roses adorning the bushes.

"Meera," Laiza took Meera's hand and squeezed it reassuringly. "Tomorrow will be a very special day for you. You will be leaving behind girlhood and entering womanhood. You will become a wife, and there are many wifely duties you must become aware of."

Meera's anxiety grew as she questioned, "Such as?" She began nervously chewing on her bottom lip.

"Well, first things first, your wedding night," Zoya chimed in. "Don't be afraid to speak your mind. If anything feels uncomfortable, let your husband know. Things can get a bit... clumsy. But keep calm and just try to enjoy it."

The other girls fixated their gazes on Meera, who stared back at them with a blank expression, feeling a sense of confusion settling in.

"I don't understand," Meera admitted quietly.

"Have you never been to the kitchen in the palace?" Charlotte tilted her head curiously.

"No," Meera shook her head, puzzled.

"Ah," Zoya sighed with understanding. "Well, ladies, we start from the beginning."

"Am I missing something here?" Meera glanced around, seeking clarity in their words.

"Meera," Laiza spoke again, gently taking her hand. "You do know how a woman and a man's bodies are different, correct?"

Meera nodded hesitantly, replying, "Yes..."

"Okay, good," Zoya chuckled. "We can start there."

"Tomorrow night," Laiza gently tugged on Meera's hand to refocus her attention. "When Eryx and you are alone, things will happen."

"By the looks of your husband-to-be, wonderful things will happen," Charlotte muttered under her breath and took a sip of her drink.

Laiza ignored her friend's playful remark and continued, "Once you are married, Eryx and you will become one soul with two bodies. His belongs to you, and yours belongs to him."

Meera slowly pulled her hand back, her grip tightening on the fabric of her dress in her lap as the conversation unfolded.

"You don't have to feel shy or be worried about anything tomorrow night," Zoya reassured her. "Just let your bodies talk. Let them get to know one another."

"Yes," Charlotte nodded sagely. "I agree. Take your time; the more time you spend playing with one another, the better it will all feel. Otherwise, it might hurt."

Meera's eyes widened in surprise. "Hurt?"

"Only a little bit," Laiza assured her. "When Eryx... moves in between your legs..."

"What?" Meera recoiled. "Pardon me?"

"Meera, it's all allowed," Zoya interjected quickly to prevent the princess from becoming overwhelmed. "That's how you consummate the marriage."

"In between my legs?" Meera gasped, her innocence shining through her shocked expression.

"Oh, you sweet girl," Charlotte laughed. "You do know what's between your legs, don't you?"

"Yes," Meera scowled, feeling uneasy about the mockery in the woman's tone.

"And have you ever touched yourself there?" Zoya asked, her tone gentle. Seeing Meera hesitate and blush, she added, "It's alright. No one's going to judge."

"No," Meera shook her head, her discomfort evident.

"Never?" Zoya's eyes widened. "Not even out of curiosity?"

"No," Meera repeated, feeling a mix of embarrassment and curiosity in the candid conversation.

"Well, darling," Laiza smiled gently. "You're in for a treat tomorrow night because that is exactly where Eryx will want to bury his seeds."

"His what?" Meera coughed, her eyes wide with disbelief.

"I was the same way," Charlotte shook her head. "Why don't we talk about this sooner?"

"I don't understand what you all are talking about," Meera began to rise. "I would like to return to my room now."

"Meera, no," Lazia insisted, pulling her back. "You need to know this so you're not caught off guard tomorrow."

"It's for your own good, Princess," Zoya added, her expression serious.

Reluctantly, Meera sank back down to her pillow, the weight of the impending revelation settling on her shoulders.

"Tomorrow night," Laiza took a deep breath, "when you consummate your marriage with your husband, he will enter your body. It's the way nature works. At first, it might be uncomfortable, but it gets better with practice."

"Lots of practice," Zoya interjected with a teasing smile.

"The very first time, there will be some blood," Laiza continued calmly. "But do not be frightened. It's all natural. It'll prove that the marriage has been consummated."

"And what about the seeds?" Meera asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Laiza nodded, "Yes, that. You see, when a man is inside a woman, both gain pleasure from it."

"Heavenly pleasure," Zoya chimed in with a dreamy expression. "Unlike anything you've ever experienced before."

"It's why newlyweds stay locked up in their bedchamber for days after they're married," Charlotte laughed, adding to the surreal atmosphere.

"Yes," Laiza nodded. "So while in this pleasurable act that you will be experiencing, your husband and you will reach a point where your bodies won't be able to contain the pleasure any longer. When this happens, Eryx will release inside of you, and what he puts inside of you will be what your body will need to create a child."

"A child?" Meera's heart squeezed, a mix of emotions flooding her.

"Yes," Laiza smiled gently. "That's how children are created."

"If you want to become a mother quickly, do not let him leave your bed," Zoya advised with a playful smirk. "You'll seed every drop of his seed."

As the ladies unraveled the intricacies of the wedding night, Meera felt her head spinning with a whirlwind of emotions. The air in the garden seemed to thicken, and the soft glow of torchlight danced in a surreal haze. Her heart pounded in her chest, echoing the gravity of the revelations that hung in the air.

The candid details about the intimacy between husband and wife left Meera feeling a profound sense of vulnerability. Shyness and nervousness enveloped her as she contemplated the prospect of Eryx being an integral part of such intimate moments. The mere thought of him entering her life in this deeply personal way stirred a mix emotions within her.

The dim light of the garden offered a sanctuary for Meera's internal reflections, each revelation sinking in like petals falling from a shaken bloom. Her cheeks flushed, and she found herself instinctively clutching the fabric of her dress, seeking comfort in the midst of the revelations that seemed to blur the lines between innocence and maturity.

As the conversation unfolded, Meera's gaze involuntarily wandered, her mind drifting to the image of Eryx. The prospect of him becoming an inseparable part of her intimate world fueled a cascade of conflicting emotions—excitement, loads of uncertainty, and a subtle undercurrent of curiosity and anxiety.

For the rest of the night, the weight of the impending wedding night bore down on her as Meera sat quietly, absorbing the ladies' tips and tricks on how to please a man. The shared insights left her flustered and more nervous than ever before. When the night finally concluded, and Meera walked back to her chambers, the corridors seemed to narrow, amplifying her sense of unease.

"How was the ceremony?" Marcella stopped to ask as they passed one another in the corridors.

"Eye opening," Meera muttered.

"What?" Marcella laughed. "What do you mean?"

"I need to be alone right now," Meera said. "I'm tired and I need sleep."

"Of course," Marcella nodded. "Get some rest. Tomorrow is a big day."

Meera's mind instantly thought about the ladies giggling in the garden. She shut her eyes and groaned as her heart began to flutter and anxiety filled her belly.

"What?" Marcella questioned, not understanding Meera's reaction.

"Nothing!" Meera snapped, pushing her doors open. "Absolutly nothing!"

"Well, alight then," Marcella scowled. "Good night to you too."

Muttering under her breath, Meera shut her doors and stomped over to her bed. Changing into her nightgown in haste, she hurried under the sheets. With the candles extinguished, the room plunged into darkness, yet the distant sounds of drums continued to echo in the background.

The drums, however, were the least of Meera's worries. Tossing and turning, she couldn't escape the echoes of the women's words. Her heart contracted every time she envisioned the prospect of a little baby and the intricacies of its conception.

A baby.

Lying wide awake, Meera stared at the canopy of her bed, her thoughts consumed by the complexities of the impending night and the profound responsibility of motherhood that lingered on the horizon. The darkness of the room mirrored the uncertainty that clouded her mind, leaving her with a restless night ahead. But when sleep did come, all of Meera's worries began to melt away.

She stared at Eryx's beautiful eyes as he leaned down and kissed her belly. Sparks flew up her body as it always did whenever they touched. Eryx looked up through his lashes and laughed, the sound low and husky.

"And you were worried?" He teased her.

"I was," Meera admitted.

"You have nothing to worry about, my beautiful girl," Eryx moved up and laid down beside her.

Meera couldn't stop looking at him as his fingers traced up her bare thighs under the sheets and feathered over the arch between her legs. Meera's mouth opened in a silent gasp as she grabbed Eryx's shirt and pulled him closer.

"That's right, your highness," Eryx's voice rumbled in her ear. "Let me indulge your curiosity."

Meera moved her body toward him, wanting to feel more. But when she couldn't feel him the way she wanted to because of the hazy dream, Meera gripped the sheets and groaned, calling out his name in frustration.

"Eryx," Meera's face twisted with frustration. She called out to him once again as he began to slip away. "Eryx...."

Just then, the fluttering of Helios's wings snapped Meera back to reality. Her eyes snapped open just in time for her to catch the sight of the bird taking flight from the railing of her balcony.

Meera sat up and pushed her hair out of her face. Her throat was as dry as the desert in the summer heat. Her heart pounded inside her chest like a wild horse, and her head was beginning to throb. Feeling too warm, Meera pushed the sheets off herself and walked out onto the balcony. The cool sea breeze welcomed her as she scanned the sleeping gardens before her.

A few stragglers from the party made their way to their chambers. The palace maids cleaned up the lawns, and Ozmen thanked the lingering guests for the celebration. Meera watched them from high up on her balcony until her eyes caught on Helios sitting on Eryx's shoulder. Intrigued, Meera peered at them. The bird seemed to almost whisper in its master's ear. Eryx's head began to turn towards the balcony, but he stopped.

Meera didn't know if it was the sleep in her eyes or the lingering sensation of the dream still in her mind, but she could have sworn she saw him grinning. The sight of Eryx, accompanied by Helios, sent a strange excitement coursing through her veins. Her heart, still recovering from the vivid dream, now quickened its pace with an unusual longing.

"Meera?" Ozmen called to her from the lawn. "What are you doing?"

Meera jumped in fright as if she had been caught.

"Go get some sleep," Ozmen ordered. "The wedding ceremony is at dawn."

The morning in Azmeera unfolded with a breathtaking display of natural beauty. The sun painted the sky in hues of soft pinks and oranges, casting a warm glow over the palace and its surroundings. A gentle breeze carried the scent of blooming flowers, mingling with the crisp, invigorating air.

As Meera prepared to step into a new chapter of her life as a bride, the palace came alive with a buzz of excitement. The maids adorned the gardens with vibrant floral arrangements, creating a tapestry of colors that mirrored the joyous atmosphere. The sound of birdsong accompanied the rustling leaves, creating a melody that seemed to celebrate the union about to take place.

In Meera's chambers, the soft morning light streamed through billowing curtains, casting a golden sheen on every surface. The air was filled with the sweet fragrance of perfumed oils and delicate blooms. Skilled hands worked diligently to prepare Meera for the grand occasion, dressing her in a gown that shimmered like moonlight on the water.

The anticipation of the day echoed in the laughter and cheerful chatter of the maids. Mirrors reflected Meera's radiant smile as she gazed at herself, a vision of grace and beauty. The intricate details of her attire, adorned with jewels and delicate embroidery, sparkled in the morning sunlight.

As Meera's preparations continued, the palace courtyard transformed into a scene of enchantment. Colorful banners swayed gently in the breeze, and floral arches framed pathways leading to the grand hall. The rhythmic beats of drums added a sense of festivity to the air, setting the stage for a celebration that would be etched in the memories of all who attended.

Outside, the city of Azmeera greeted the morning with open arms. Streets adorned with vibrant tapestries and garlands showcased the collective joy of the people. Marketplaces bustled with activity, and the aroma of freshly baked goods wafted through the air, creating an atmosphere of shared excitement.

As Meera took the final steps in her bridal preparations, the sun climbed higher in the sky, casting its warm embrace over the kingdom. The beauty of the morning in Azmeera mirrored the significance of the day, a canvas painted with love, hope, and the promise of a beautiful union.

"Meera?"

Meera looked up as Iris entered her room. The queen was dressed in a sage green gown with yellow jewels that sparkles on her tiara. She looked towards the bride with admiration and sadnes in her eyes. Meera felt her heart squeeze with emotions beyond her control as Iris walked in and stopped to stand behind her.

"You look like your mother," Iris spoke, her voice tight with emotion.

Reching up, Meers squeezed Iris's hand on her shoulder. Her eyes watered and Marcella quickly dabbed the tears away before they could ruin the stain on Meera's cheeks.

"I have something for you," Iris said, reaching back to the maid who had followed her in. "It's your mother's veil. She wore it to her wedding."

Meera's eyes watered once more as Iris picked up the long sheer veil and held it over the crown of her head. She had seen portraits of her mother with her wedding veil. Meera never thought she would get to see it in real life.

"Where did you find it?" She asked, her fingers reaching up to touch the delicate cloth.

"It was packed away with her things," Iris said, carefully clipping it onto Meera's long locks. "I had the maids bring it out for your special occasion. Leena would have wanted you to have it."

"Thank you," Meera whispered, her throat tightening up with emotions.

"Don't make her cry, mother," June frowned. "Her eyes will be all puffy."

"My apologies," Iris laughed, dabbing at her eyes. "Are we all ready girls? The men are waiting."

"Has the groom arrived?" Marcella asked, helping Meera stand up.

"He's been here," Iris said, making Meera's heart skip a beat. "Haven't you seen his bird flying around?"

"He tried to come by once," June muttered. "Took my breakfast sausage right out of my hand."

"What did you do?"

"I threw my shoe at him."

"You're lucky it's his wedding day," Iris laughed. "Otherwise, I'm sure, Eryx would have had something to say."

"I'm sure," June laughed with her mother.

Behind them, Marcella and Meera held each other's hands in a tight grip. The girls shared one last look in the room they grew up in before crossing the threshold and turning towards the stairs.

"Marcella?" Iris looked over her shoulder. "Cover her with the veil, please."

"Yes," Marcella quickly grabbed the edge of Meera's veil and draped it over her face.

Meera felt her heart start to flutter uncontrollably as they descended the stairs towards the garden. The anticipation in the air was palpable, and the hushed whispers of the onlookers added a sense of enchantment to the moment. The sunlight danced around them, casting a radiant glow on Meera as she made her way down, dressed romantically as a bride.

As Meera descended, the voices around her grew hush, creating a space that seemed to amplify the beating of her heart. The blissfullness of the moment was not lost on anyone present, and all eyes were fixated on the vision of beauty that was Meera in her bridal attire.

At the steps of the palace, Eryx awaited, a vision of regality. Dressed in the navy blue attire of a groom, he stood beside his white horse with Helios perched on his shoulder. His curls were expertly combed back, framing his beautiful eyes and accentuating his strikingly handsome features.

The sight of Eryx took Meera's breath away. He looked every bit the prince she had dreamed of – regal, enchanting, and impossibly handsome. The way the sunlight played on his features seemed to highlight the divine connection between them.

As their eyes met, a wave of comfort washed over Meera. Eryx's eyes mirrored the gaze she had seen in her dreams the night before. The familiarity in his handsome features brought a sense of reassurance, as if the dream and reality were merging into a seamless tapestry. Eryx's gaze held a depth of emotion, and the unspoken connection between them was evident.

"Here we are," Marcella said as she handed Meera's hand to Eryx. "She's all yours. But no peeking under the veil until you reach the temple."

"Yes, your grace," Eryx bowed his head towards the brincess before turing to his bride. Meera felt her belly do flips as he held her gaze and lowered his mouth to kiss her hand. She felt her body crave his closeness, his scnet driving her insane. No matter what Meera did, she could not get the memories of the dream out of her head.

With a racing heart, Meera allowed Eryx to help her onto the open carriage. He gathered her long veil, a cascade of delicate fabric that trailed behind her, and climbed in after her. Marcella and June took their seats in front of them, their excitement mirroring the electrifying atmosphere.

As the carriage set off towards the temple, the streets of Azmeera came alive with an eruption of cheers and jubilation. The air buzzed with excitement, and the people lining the streets couldn't contain their joy. They shouted Meera's name in unison, their voices harmonizing with congratulatory cheers. The warm welcome extended to Eryx, hailed as their royal son-in-law, and prayers for his long life echoed through the crowd.

Children, perched on their fathers' shoulders, waved enthusiastically at Meera, their faces lit up with innocent delight. In a burst of spontaneous joy, they threw flowers in her direction. Meera gracefully acknowledged each gesture, offering her heartfelt thanks as she gathered every flower that landed in her lap. With a radiant smile, she began creating a second bouquet for herself, a colorful collection of well-wishes from the people of Azmeera.

Eryx, seated beside her, observed the scene with a fond smile. Seeing Meera's effort to collect every flower, he raised his hand and deftly caught some of the blossoms that had no chance of making it into the carriage. With a playful gesture, he handed them to Meera, his eyes reflecting the shared joy of the moment. Marcella and June, witnessing the charming exchange between the bride and the groom, couldn't help but giggle, adding to the infectious joy that permeated the carriage.

Once the procession arrived at the temple, Sion awaited them at the steps, ready to bestow his blessings upon the young couple. With a wise and gentle presence, he greeted Meera and Eryx and guided them toward the sacred altar, where all the preparations for the wedding ceremony awaited.

As Eryx took Meera's hand, ready to step forward, she gently tugged himback.

"Just a second," Meera stopped him.

Eryx looked back at her as Meera handed June her beautiful water lily bouquet for the one she had created in the carriage. To Meera, the colorful bouquet she held was more than just a collection of flowers—it was Azmeera's collective blessing, a tangible manifestation of her parents' love and her people's support. Meera knew, deep down in her heart, that the fragrant blooms carried the essence of her parents' blessings, woven into the very fabric of her being. With a sense of gratitude and reverence, Meera turned back towards Eryx.

"Okay," she whispered, her gaze meeting his.

In that exchange, the colorful bouquet of mismatched flowers became not just a collection of flowers but a vessel carrying the hopes, love, and well-wishes of an entire kingdom. The bouquet, cradled in Meera's hands, symbolized the unity of past, present, and future—a testament to the enduring bond between a princess and her people.

Eryx, understanding the significance of the moment, took Meera's hand once more. Together, they ascended the steps of the temple, the morning light pouring in through high windows. The sounds of the waves and the sea breeze lent a serene backdrop to their journey. As they approached the altar, all the guests took their seats, and the bride and groom faced each other.

"Dearly beloved," Sion began. "We're gathered her to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony."

Meera's heart began to beat wildly. She coudln't look away from Eryx's eyes as Sion continued with the service and explained the significance of marriage. He spoke of love, respect, and honor. Everything Meera vowed to upond in her new journey. When it came time for Eryx to lift her veil, Meera swore she would faint form the lack of oxygen in her lungs.

"Princess Meera Amata of Azmeera," Sion turned towards her with a small smile, his wise eyes acknowledging the gravity of the moment. "Do you take this man, Prince Eryx Alexious of Voreios, to be your lawfully wedded husband? To love and to honor, in sickness and in health?"

Meera felt a subtle parting of her lips as she took in a steadying breath. Eryx's hands squeezed hers.

"I do," she affirmed, her voice carrying the weight of her commitment and the fluttering nerves that danced within.

"And do you, Prince Eryx Alexious of Voreios, take this woman, Princess Meera Amata of Azmeera, to be your lawfully wedded wife? To love and to honor, in sickness and in health?"

Eryx's eyes bored into Meera's soul. She felt exposed standing before him as he gripped her fingers and held his breath. Meera felt the tension in his body as he stared at her and watched the pupils of her eyes dilate.

"I do..." Eryx breathed.

Sion, the wise officiant, chuckled softly under his breath, his demeanor akin to that of a benevolent grandfather.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife," he declared with a twinkle in his eye. "Prince Eryx, you may now kiss your beautiful bride."

Meera's heart raced as the moment she had both feared and anticipated arrived. The first kiss as husband and wife—a symbol of their union, a seal on their vows. She felt Eryx's gaze intensify, and the world around them seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them standing in the temple. The nervous flutter in Meera's stomach intensified, and she braced herself for the tender touch that would mark the beginning of their journey together.

Taking a deliberate step forward, Eryx positioned his hands on either side of Meera's face, a peculiar departure from the conventional stance of a groom at the altar. The gesture was unconventional yet intriguing, and Meera allowed him to take the lead, meeting him halfway in the sacred space between them. As Eryx's breath caressed her lips, Meera closed her eyes, savoring the anticipation that hung in the air.

Each passing second felt like an eternity, and Meera held her breath, her lips quivering with palpable excitement. The air crackled with tension as Eryx drew nearer, the anticipation building with each heartbeat. In the hushed atmosphere, Meera's senses heightened, and her world condensed to the imminent exchange of a kiss.

Just as their lips were poised to meet, Eryx, in an unexpected twist, placed his thumb over Meera's mouth, creating a barrier between their lips. The bride's eyes snapped open in surprise as she felt the pressure of Eryx's mouth against his thumb, a symbolic gesture that mimicked a kiss. With a subtle step back, Eryx withdrew, leaving Meera bewildered and attempting to make sense of the unexpected turn of events.

As Eryx stepped away, the air filled with the jubilant cheers of the guests, who showered the newlyweds with flower petals. Marcella and June rushed forward, enveloping Meera in their arms, while Neftali and Ozmen extended their congratulations to Eryx. Amidst the celebratory chaos, the bride and groom found themselves momentarily separated by the joyous crowd and their enthusiastic families.

Meera, still trying to process the unusual moment, attempted to catch Eryx's eyes, seeking an explanation for the unexpected deviation from tradition. However, the sea of people between them made communication challenging, leaving Meera with unanswered questions amidst the festive celebration that surrounded them.

"Now straight to the palace," Ozmen announced.

Amidst the euphoria of the celebration, Eryx stepped towards Meera and swept her up into his arms. He carried her to the carriage outside and settled her into her seat, feeling her eyes on him the whole time.

"Eryx?" Meera's eyes bore into him, a silent inquiry demanding answers. Her voice cut through the festive air, seeking clarification.

Eryx swiftly seized her hand and squeezed.

"Not now," he said.

Meera, fueled by a growing frustration, withdrew her hand from his grasp and purposefully distanced herself within the confines of the carriage. With a facade of cheerfulness, she began to wave to the onlooking crowd, diverting attention from the odd gap between the newlyweds.

Despite her outward display of happiness, she could sense Eryx's gaze fixed upon her. When he attempted to bridge the distance by placing his hand on her lap, Meera recoiled as if touched by a searing flame, vehemently pushing his advances away. The gap widened, a palpable distance growing between them in the confined space of the carriage.

"Princess," Eryx leaned toward her.

"Not now," Meera reiterated with a steely resolve, her tone leaving no room for negotiation.

Eryx's jaw clenched as he sat back up and turned towards the people of Azmeera. He forced a polite smile onto his face and waved to the crowd. The unspoken tension between them lingered, eclipsing the celebratory atmosphere that surrounded the carriage as it made its way through the jubilant streets of Azmeera.

When they arrived to the festivities at the palace, Eryx helped Meera climb down onto a carpet of red roses. She tried to pull away but his hand tightened it's grip. Meera looked up and found Eryx staring straight ahead.

"Zeya," he called to his friend.

Meera followed his gaze to where Zeya stood in a beautiful baby blue dress. Her hair was braided back with gold beats and fresh flowers. Her face was unreadable and her eyes were strictly guarded. In her hands, she carried a small woven basket covered by a red cloth. Upon Eryx's request, Zeya stepped forward and handed him the basket.

"It's Vorean tradition," Zeya said to Meera flatly as she stepped away.

"One of the few ones I know of," Eryx added as he handed Meera the basket.

"What is it?" Meera questioned.

"See for yourself," Eryx said, his eyes softening.

Meera, still feeling her heart burn with frustration from the stunt he pulled at the altar, took the basket and fluted the red cloth.

Inside, on a bed of soft cotton cloths lay a small gray kitten with patches of dark fur and a white fur belly. The gentle baby lifted its sleepy head and opened his silver eyes, making Meera gasp.

"What is it?" June asked, coming to stand by her as she picked up the kitten and brought it out of the basket.

"It's customary for the groom to gift his new bride an animal companion on their wedding day," Zeya explained. "The animal usually is a symbolic representation of how the groom views his bride."

Meera's gaze turned towards Eryx. She found him grinning as he watched her hold the little furball to her chest.

"You have to give him a name before you step foot into the house, Meera," Zeya explained.

"Right now?" Meera's eyes widened. "At this moment?"

"Yes," Zeya nodded.

Meera looked down at the animal in her hands and held him up to the light. June cooed as she tickled his full belly with her finger.

"Ash?" she suggested.

Meera shook her head.

"Clover?"

Meera shook her head again. By this time, all the other guests had arrived and were waiting for the bride and groom to make their way into the palace. With gentle hands, Meera scratched the kitten's head and brought him up to her eye level.

"Well?" Eryx waited. "What's it going to be?"

"Snow," Meera smiled. "His paws are all white like snow."

"Snow," Eryx repeated. "I like it."

"As if it mattered if you didn't?" Meera raised a brow.

And just like that, Meera's anger towards her husband was back. She tucked Snow back into his basket and handed it over to June before gathering her dress and following Zeya up the steps towards the banquet hall. Eryx, surprised by Meera's resilience to not let the kiss slide even after receiving a gift, shook his head and prepared for a long evening.

The grand hall of the palace was adorned with opulence, draped in luxurious fabrics, and bathed in the soft glow of a thousand candles. Elaborate floral arrangements graced every corner, casting a fragrant spell upon the air. The festivities were in full swing as the guests reveled in the lavish celebration of Meera and Eryx.

The rhythmic beats of lively music filled the air, enticing everyone to the dance floor. The night was alive with laughter, clinking glasses, and the joyous chatter of well-wishers. A kaleidoscope of colors swirled on the dance floor as guests twirled and spun to the enchanting melodies.

Meera, resplendent in her bridal attire, and Eryx, regal in his princely ensemble, were the center of attention as they danced hand in hand, surrounded by friends and loved ones. The bride's gown billowed around her as Eryx expertly led her through the intricate dance moves. Although Meera smiled, every time she caught Eryx's eyes, she glared at him.

The dance floor was a sea of celebration, where guests moved in harmony with the music, their laughter and exuberance echoing through the hall. The clinking of glasses and the occasional burst of applause punctuated the festive atmosphere.

A lavish spread of food and drinks filled the banquet tables, offering a feast fit for royalty. Guests indulged in decadent delicacies and toasted to the union of Meera and Eryx, raising their glasses in a collective celebration of love and happiness.

As the night unfolded, the knot in Meera's stomach continued to grow. Every time she saw Iris approaching her, her heart would leap into her throat out of nerves. She was beginning to grow jittery when, with an hour to spare before midnight, Iris and the other older ladies of the court came to take Meera to her chambers.

"What's going on?" June asked as she spotted the bride being whisked away.

"You keep dancing, my dear," one of the ladies told June.

Meera stared straight ahead as they led her to her bedroom and helped her undress. Her intricate wedding dress was taken off and the flowers were stripped from her hair. She was dressed in a white silk nightgown with a white lace robe and veil. Iris fixed Meera's hair and urged her to stand by the foot of the bed as someone knocked on the door and all the women moved to the side.

"What is happening?" Meera whispered to her aunt.

"Shh," Iris hushed her as the door opened and King Neftali walked in with Eryx, Ozmen, and a few of the other men from the court. Sion was amongst them. He came in with a golden urli in his hand.

Meera's heart began to beat out of her chest as she stepped behind her aunt to hide. The other ladies, sensing her nervousness, stepped closer to her and patted her shoulder.

"It's okay dear," they whispered.

Sion stepped forward and began to recite a prayer. Meera looked around the room as two men approached the bed and laid down a pure white sheet over the blankets. Confused, Meera's eyes flickered towards Eryx and watched him shut his eyes as if he was hoping they wouldn't do that.

"Is that necessary?" He spoke up.

Sion stopped his prayer and looked back at the prince.

"It's customary," one of the men said.

Eryx rolled his eyes and shut his mouth. Meera turned back to the old priest as he sprinkled holy water upon the bed.

"Once again," Sion sighed, turning towards Eryx. "Congratulations, your grace."

Iris turned towards Meera and placed a kiss on her head, "Good luck, my dear."

"Wait..." Meera's throat dried up. "Wait."

"It's alright," Iris assured her. "You're husband and wife now."

Meera didn't know what to say as the people began to make their way out of her room. She stood frozen at the edge of the bed as they all left one by one and shut the door behind themselves. The lock turned and Meera felt her heart stop.

"I had assumed this custom was outdated," Eryx muttered, walking up to the bed and touching the white sheet. "How insensitive."

Meera stood frozen, her Mind filling with the words from her blooming ceremony and the laughter from the ladies. Her palms began to sweat and her breathing labored. She watched Eryx move around the room as she stood like a statue. When he noticed she hadn't moved after several seconds, he walked over and threw the veil off.

"Get on the bed," Eryx said.

Meera's belly clenched. Her breath caught inside her chest as Eryx took of his coat and stood before her in his white shirt.

"On the bed, Meera," Eryx said once more.

"I..." Meera's heart began to pound in her ears. "I know this union was formed under unusual circumstances with a rushed wedding but I do intend to be a good wife to you."

Eryx looked up at her with his brows furrowed. He looked upset as Meera continued.

"I'll do my duties as a good wife should," she said. "But I....."

"Can you chit-chat as you get on the bed?" Eryx asked.

"At the temple," Meera's eyes flickered towards the bed. "We...."

Eryx reached out and took her hand. He tugged her forward and moved her towards the edge of the bed.

"Eryx, wait," Meera stopped.

"Meera," Eryx tugged on her hand once more. "You said you wanted to be a good wife, right?"

Two bodies, one sould.....two sides of the same moon....

The tightness in Meera's throat made it impossible for her to utter a word. Her body moved on its own as Eryx helped her onto the bed and ordered her to lie down.

"Open your legs," he said.

Meera stared at the ceiling, her ears ringing and her heart ready to rip through her heart. When she didn't move, Eryx placed his hand on her knee.

"Wait, wait!" Meera bolted up, forcing Eryx back. "We didn't kiss at the altar."

Eryx pulled back.

"Are we even married?" Meera asked. "We didn't seal our vows. Is this even proper?"

"They locked you in here with me," Eryx reminded her. "They consider the vows sealed."

Meera's eyes widened like a deer. She sat with her hands clutched to her chest and Eryx kneeled between her legs. Her big doe eyes stared up at him as he leaned forward and moved her legs aside.

"Relax, Your Highness," Eryx said as he pulled a small dagger out of his boots.

"What are you doing?" Meera asked breathlessly. "I don't remember this part in the blooming ceremony."

"They expect to see blood on the sheets tomorrow morning," Eryx explained.

Meera watched in shock as Eryx held out his palm and sliced it with his dagger. Meera gasped in shock as the blood oozed out.

"Relax," Eryx said calmly. He squeezed his palm and watched the blood fall on the white sheet. "Now come here, show me your dress."

Meera sat staring, incapable of moving. She felt Eryx gather the fabric of her nightgown in his hand and smear some of the blood onto it. When he finished, he stepped back and cleared his throat.

"What's it?" She asked.

"What more did you expect?" Eryx asked, wiping his blade.

"You didn't kiss me at the altar," Meera pointed out once again. "And now this......why?"

"Because you looked terrified."

"What?"

"You looked terrified," Eryx repeated himself.

"But the vows...." Meera said slowly. "And the consummation."

"When you're ready," Eryx tucked away his blade and grabbed the hem of his shirt. "My duty is to protect you. Not take advantage of you. But for now, to satisfy everyone else's twisted minds, this needed to be done."

Meera looked down at the blood between her legs on the bed sheet. She felt the knots in her stomach ease as she closed her legs and adjusted her rob.

"One more thing," Eryx spoke as he took off his shirt and tossed it onto the floor.

Meera stilled. Her eyes fell on the muscles under his smooth skin and for a few moments, it was impossible to believe the man before her could turn into a wolf.

"Come closer," Eryx said, turning round to face Meera and climbing back onto the bed.

Meera leaned back as far as she could until she found herself beneath Eryx. She looked up into his silver eyes as he pushed her hair to one side and moved her hands onto his back.

"Use your nails," he said.

"For what?" Meera asked breathlessly.

"Anything." Eryx leaned forward and nudged Meera's face aside with his nose. She shivered immediately as his mouth fell upon the skin on her shoulder.

Eryx raised his hands and pulled down the thin sleeves of Meera's nightgown, revealing for of her body. He pulled her skin into his mouth and instantly felt Meera's nails dig into his back. She gasped a sweet sound that stirred the beast inside of Eryx. Her hands fell flat against his back for a few seconds before her fingers curled and her nails raked down his back.

Meera tilted her head back, her legs feeling strange. Eryx's body pressed her down into the pillows as his mouth sucked the curve of her shoulder and neck.

Meera's mouth fell wide open. She remembered what the ladies had said about pleasure and her cheeks blushed. Her body was doing things without her permission. She back curved off the bed to meet Eryx as he gripped her shoulder and gently bit down on the curve of her neck.

But before Meera could fully understand the needs that were building inside of her, Eryx pulled back. He stared into her eyes and they both tried to catch their breath. His gaze moved to her neck and shoulders, making sure the lovebite would stick. It had only taken him a few seconds to bite and suck enough of Meera to burst the little blood vessels beneath her smooth skin, but Eryx knew he could have continued for longer.

But there was no need for that. The blood on the sheets, the love bites on her neck, and the nail marks on his back would be more than enough to convince the entire kingdom of Azmeera of consumption.

"Wh-what was that for?" Meera asked.

"For proof," Eryx rolled off of her and pulled her up. "Are you okay?"

"I know I'm your wife, but next time tell me what you're about to do," Meera frowned.

"Meera, I want to suck and bit your neck until your blood vessels burst and bruise your skin," Eryx said.

Meera's hand instantly flew up to her neck in shock.

"Would you have gone along with it?" Eryx arched his brow.

"Maybe," Meera readjusted her rob and covered her shoulder.

"The next time I have to suck and bit you, I'll tell you," Eryx rolled his eyes and stepped back. "Now. Can you take care of this?"

Eryx held up his injured hand and Meera slowly nodded. She rose from the bed and fixed her hair to cover her neck. Eryx wanted to laugh but decided against it. Instead, he watched her hurry towards the bowl of water by her vanity. She carefully carried it over and waited until Eryx dipped his bleeding hand inside.

"Have a seat," Meera instructed.

Eryx followed Meera over to the small garden table and chair on her balcony. They sat down across from one another in the dark and Meera placed the bowl between them.

Eryx couldn't tear his eyes away from Meera as she dipped her hands into the water and placed them around his. Her touch was soft and gentle. She closed her eyes and her long lashes fanned over her rosy cheeks. Her full lips parted and she let out a soft exhale.

"This is your first time healing me," Eryx said in the darkness, trying to stop his mind from thinking about how good she tasted in his mouth and how smooth her skin was.

"Yes," Meera nodded, her eyes still closed. The water began to warm and Eryx's hands began to feel fuzzy. He sat as still as possible while Meera moved her hands over him and around the water, swirling it as if to keep the energy going.

"I'm still learning," she said when it was apparent it was going to take a while.

"Good thing you married a Vorean then," Eryx chuckled. "We're resilient."

Meera smiled as she continued to work. Eryx was grateful for the few moments he was allowed to sit and stare at Meera's face. He wanted to memorize every inch of her. He wanted her face etched into his memory forever.

"You're staring at me," Meera pointed out.

"How can you tell?" Eryx tilted his head.

"I can feel it when you do," Meera said, her eyes slowly opening. "Is it the mate bond?"

Eryx slowly nodded, taken back by the depth in Meera's eyes. They always seemed so different right after she used the water. It was as if a new ray of life was added to her being.

"You're healed," Meera said quietly.

"Thank you," Eryx turned his hand and intertwined it with hers under the water. Meera's lashes lowered and the hint of a blush came over her cheeks. "Meera?"

"Yes?" Meera looked up.

"I'm sorry," Eryx's throat worked.

"For what?" Meera asked.

Eryx leaned back and took in a deep breath, "For today. For everything that just happened on that bed."

Meera slowly nodded, "You're my husband......"

"That doesn't give me the right."

"I meant what I said about wanting to be a good wife," Meera looked up. "And I want to thank you for not rushing me and forcing me."

Eryx nodded, his face silent.

"And thank you for Snow," Meera added.

"Oh, that reminds me," Eryx let go of Meera's hand and stood up. He grabbed his coat off the floor and pulled out a velvet box from within. "This is your second gift. Given after the consummation."

Meera's nose scrunched up, "Should I accept?"

"Only if you don't want all of our work to go to waste," the corner of Eryx's mouth curved up. "Open it. I had it made for you."

Curiously taking the box from his hand, Meera untied the ribbon and lifted the lid. Inside she pushed aside the purple silk to reveal a silver regalia.

"It's my insignia," Eryx explained.

Meera carefully lifted the silver out of its box and held it up, "Helios?"

"Yes," Eryx nodded, admiring the expert craftsmanship of Azmeera's metal workers. With such short notice, they were able to create impossible intricate details on the bird's wings and facial expressions.

"It looks just like him," Meera remarked.

"When you're in Voreios, you may wear it," Eryx said. "Everyone does over there."

"Thank you," Meera smiled, taking in every detail of the metal bird.

"You were scared about what was going to happen tonight, weren't you?" Eryx suddenly asked.

"Was my face that obvious?" Meera lowered the regalia.

"No," Eryx shook his head. "Helios told me."

"What?"

"He watches you sleep," Eryx explained. "He came to me last night to tell me you were restless and having bad dreams."

Let me indulge your curiosity....

Meera cleared her throat and shifted her hair to cover her neck, "Yes......bad dreams."

"Hopefully no more bad dreams," Eryx sighed and got up from his seat. "I'll take the sofa?"

"Why?" Meera's brows narrowed.

"I figured you wouldn't want to share the bed."

"We're married," Meera said. "We can sleep beside one another, no?"

Eryx paused and stared. After a few seconds, he nodded, "Yes, we can."

Meera rose from her seat and walked back into the room, "Left or right?"

"Right," Eryx pointed.

"Good," Meera laughed. "Because the left side is mine."

"Then why did you ask?"

"To be polite," Meera continued to laugh as she walked over to her side of the bed and pushed the sheets back. "Good night, your grace.

Eryx, standing at the foot of the bed, stared at her as she got comfortable, "Good night, your Highness."
