When I was a child I suffered from a lot of health issues. It made playing outside with other children difficult. Since I was also an only child my mom was determined to not sit me in front of the TV all the time so she ended up taking me to the library. It became a weekly thing for us. I'd check out seven books every time from there I joined reading programs that my local library held during the summer. Every payday my mom would let me pick a toy out but I soon traded toys for books. The characters in books became my best friends and I quickly started to live in my own imagination.
Fast forward to junior high and now had a group of friends (finally). We were assigned a creative writing lesson and I quickly found how much I loved writing and letting my imagination run wild. I remember writing a story about my friends and I getting trapped inside this creepy hallway at the school. I always said it was haunted. My teacher was very impressed.
In high school I silently dreamed of becoming an author while reading constantly. One night while my best friend and I were having a sleep over I told her about my dream and she told me "You should!" I remember asking her if it seemed like too big of a dream and she told me "Nothing is too big to dream, that's the whole point of a dream." Her words have stayed with me even after her death but I forgot to dream the dream for a while.
Life got crazy with college and what not and one day my now best friend encouraged me to write and then another special someone encouraged me to do the same. The next thing I knew I was sitting in front of my laptop and pouring a story out of me. In that moment I finally understood a quote I had heard by Ernest Hemingway "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed." He was correct, there was nothing to it but to sit there and bleed. Before I knew it I had a novel that turned into a trilogy.
