3rd pov
As they were walking Sarah broke the silence between the two. ''you know what happened in my room last night i...'', RJ cut her off. ''no yeah, that was a mistake. We were just caught up in a moment. No need to explain. Like you said let's just forget about it''. ''yeah uhm your right''. ''if Topper found out he'd kick my ass'', he said trying to lighten mood. ''probably'', the girl just answered while sighing. ''hey just don't let him or your brother decide for you. You are your own person, remember that''. Sarah smiled at him. ''yeah I know. Thanks RJ''. ''anytime princess''.
They were now at some college. Sarah pointed at the other side. ''the library is just around the other side of the student center. Have you been to something like this?''. ''a college? No, I haven't''. ''that's a gap in your training'', she said shaking her head at him.
''have you?'', he asked while raising his brows at her. ''kind of. My dad actually went here. Then his dad and his dad after that''. ''oh, that sounds like some sort of a legacy''. She shrugged. ''yeah. He would very much like me to go here. If I don't he'd probably get aneurysm or something, which is a little annoying. As I want to pick myself the college I want to go to. What about you?''.
RJ ran his hand through his hair. ''uh, college hasn't actually crossed my mind. I mean I didn't think about it like Pope does, so''.
Suddenly the phone began to ring. Sarah looked at it and noticed it was her dad's. She turned the phone around to let RJ see who was calling her. ''my handler must be worrying about me, by now'', she joked.
RJ chuckled. ''wonder what he'll want''.
She let the call go to voice mail. ''told him I was spending the night at some friends house''. RJ smirked. ''good call. Wondered what he'd think if he knew you were with the Routledge thief?''. Sarah scoffed amused. ''would have hanged me for treason'', she joked.
RJ nodded in approving manner. ''because you felt sympathise for the pogue, who happened to work for him and allegedly steal?''.
Sarah nodded. ''oh, yeah'', she said dramatically.
''oh, oh. You've gotta be careful Val. Fraternizing with the enemy, equals not good'', he said in a joking russian accent. ''you're on to something Vince'', she played along.
RJ cleared his throat and talked in a deep voice, trying to be like Ward. ''wait a minute. Did he kidnap you? Or drug you?'', he said sounding concerning. Sarah just smiled and played along with the boy. ''no, I came out of my recognizance, following a lead. We teamed up''.
RJ raised his brows. ''hm, do I know this civil enemy?''. ''oh, yeah. He's kind of known. He used to work for you''.
RJ shook his head. ''no don't tell me? It was the thief wasn't it? The one who stole our scuba gear?''. ''he's not who you think he is dad. He's actually pretty great'', she said complimenting the Routledge boy.
''no, no. He's working on some good psyops on you Sa... Val. He must be a smooth operator then''. Sarah laughed. ''no, he's not. He's kind of dramatic at some times, not to mention cocky. And has absolutely no idea to make a move, but I think I can turn this one sir''.
RJ stopped with the voice and turned back to his russian accent and cleared his throat a little at Sarah's comment. ''well, be careful Val. Once a pogue, always a pogue''.
The girl shrugged. ''well, I don't see him like that. Pogue or kook, who cares? He's still a person like us''.
RJ smirked. ''looks like this boy, has put some sort of charming spell on you''. Sarah rolled her eyes playfull, but a little smile found a way onto her lips. ''come on let's go, loverboy''.
----
They walked inside the library and looked around.
''time to play the truth game again Vince''. ''come on. We already did that Valerie''. She ignored him ''tell me why are we really here?''. ''I told you I can't tell you''. ''hm, okay intel on the mission is the price of the ticket. I'm the only way you're getting in. So, if I were you I would stop playing with the 'I can't tell you' game. Talk''. RJ sighed. ''fine. I'm on a treasure hunt''.
Sarah looks at him with a blank face and began to laugh. RJ didn't tho. He was serious and she noticed. ''woah, you're not kidding?''. ''no, I am not Sarah. ''I have a reason to believe that Denmark Tanny was the only survivor of the royal merchant wreck. I know it may be crazy, but I'm kind of sure he got away with like five hundred million in gold. That is how he must have managed to buy tannyhill, and I think the location of the gold is in those papers that are in here''.
''five hundred million?'', Sarah asked the boy. He nodded. ''yeah lots of that bubble wrap''.
Sarah walked right to the desk and talked to the librarian. ''hi, I'm Sarah Cameron and I was wondering if I could see the archives my father donated here?''.
''oh, sure. Follow me'', the librarian said walking to the Denmark Tanny's room.
As they arrived she spoke again. ''let me tell you a thank you. We were so grateful when you father donated it to us. I'll let you two be on it'', she said walking out leaving the two teenagers for themselves.
Sarah opened up the box. They both read the text. ''Denmark used his money he got from tannyhill to buy slaves and give them their freedom. It also says that he was accused of inciting revolt, and that before the civil war'', Sarah read off.
''that's why he was hanged'', RJ finished and looked himself. ''right there, it's the bible'', Sarah said pointing at the book.
RJ noticed the dates. ''look at the dates''. She did. ''it's birthdays I think''. ''yeah Denmark Tanny''. ''Cecilia, Roberts, Lewis and Abraham. His three sons'', Sarah finished the names.
RJ noticed a picture. ''look Sarah''. Sarah gasped. ''is that?''. ''yeah it's the gold'', he finished for her. ''this is how he bought the land. It's British gold, which were on the royal merchant'', he continued.
''that's what we found when we first moved in'', Sarah told him. RJ searched for more and noticed something else. ''what is that?''. Sarah looked at what he was looking at. ''it's the last correspondence''.
RJ realized at that moment. ''that's in gullah, the lost creole language''. ''can you read it RJ?''. The boy sighed. ''unfortunately, no I can't. But Denmark Tanny finds out the posse's coming for him. What's the date?'', he asked.
Sarah looked and answered. ''may 3rd, 1844. Wait isn't that the d...''. RJ finished. ''the day he died''. ''it's addressed to Robert''. ''the day he dies. He writes a letter to one of his sons. What?''. ''in a language only, they can understand''.
RJ realized something and took out his phone and took a picture. Sarah looked at him weird.
''I might know someone who can translate'', was all he said. ''we should get going. She just answered.
They walked out of the library and went back to the tugboat, sneaking quietly in.
