Wednesday sat cross-cross in the middle of his room, surrounded by candles, and holding the necklace his mother gave him while muttering under his breath.
"In case you're wondering, I don't hold séances very often. I can barely tolerate the living. Why would I want to commune with the dead?"
Wednesday continued to mutter with his eyes closed, and the candles around him started to flicker.
"But my mother told me that Gabriel is the only one that can train me to control my psychic ability. The sooner I master that, the sooner I can crack this case."
As Wednesday continued to mutter, the door to his dorm room flew open, and the wind from the force blew out all his candles.
Wednesday turned to the door expecting Gabriel, but instead, Enid scampered into his room. He turned away and let out an annoyed sigh.
"Sorry." Enid apologized. "I didn't mean to interrupt your...uh, do I even want to know?"
(Y/n) came in behind her and turned on the light. "Hey Wednesday. Sorry, did we interrupt something?"
"Yes." Wednesday told her, standing up. He came over and put his hands on her waist. "But I'll forgive you just this once." He said, kissing her.
(Y/n) giggled as he pulled away. "Thank you. What were you doing anyway?" She asked.
"I was reaching into the black maw of death to contact a relative." He explained.
"Feels very on brand for you." Enid said.
"Who were you contacting?"
"Gabriel Addams. He was one of the original outcasts. Been attempting to summon him, but he seems to be ignoring my entreaties." Wednesday replied in annoyance.
"Oh, have you thought about using one of my scented candles?" Enid chimed in. "The aroma of steak tartare is to die for."
Before Wednesday could answer, a piece of paper was slipped under his door, gaining everyone's attention.
Wednesday walked over to his door and picked it up, examining it.
"Maybe Gabriel answered you after all." (Y/n) suggested.
"I appreciate the encouragement my darling, but I don't think he communicates in magazine cutouts." Wednesday told her.
He looked down at the paper. 'If you want answers, meet inside Crackstone's Crypt. Midnight.'
...
Wednesday, (Y/n) and Enid walked through the dark woods, and approached the crypt, holding flashlights. (Y/n) gripped Wednesday's hand, and Enid walked behind them.
A branch snapped in the distance and Enid jumped and extending her claws, and (Y/n) shuffled closer to Wednesday, and squeezed his hand tighter.
"You two insisted on coming along." He reminded them. "I was fine on my own."
(Y/n) slightly narrowed her eyes at him. "Fine." She released his hand, and let it rest at her side.
Wednesday side-eyed her, and let out a small huff, before reaching over and taking her hand back, making (Y/n) smirk smugly.
The three stepped up the stairs of the crypt to the door, and Wednesday noticed the door was cracked open.
"Looks like our wanna be Deep Throat is already here."
Enid wrinkled her nose at the smell. "Ew. What died?"
"Smells like childhood." Wednesday commented. "Come on."
Wednesday tugged (Y/n) along with him, but Enid stayed behind.
"Second thoughts. Why don't I just stay out here?" She whimpered. "You know, as a lookout."
Wednesday ignored her and he and (Y/n) entered the crypt.
...
Wednesday and (Y/n) quietly crept further into the crypt. It was a pretty big area, and in the center was a big stone coffin, presumably where Joseph Crackstone's remains were. The room was eerily silent as they got closer to the coffin, until a small cough was heard.
Wednesday shined his flashlight towards the noise. "Whoever you are, show yourself." He demanded. "Try anything and lose limbs."
"Surprise!" A bunch of people shouted.
Xavier, Ajax, Yoko, and a few others popped out from behind the coffin, and Wednesday scowled a little.
🎵"Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you." 🎵
Enid came inside the crypt carrying a cake that said 'Happy 18th Birthday Wednesday!' And it had a little grim reaper holding a scythe and a pink balloon on top. Thing crawled into a ledge wearing a tiny black party hat.
🎵"Happy Birthday dear Wednesday. Happy Birthday to you."🎵
Once they all finished singing, Wednesday turned to glare at Thing. "I should've known you were behind this. What part of 'no party under the penalty of death' do you not understand?"
"Don't be mad at Thing." (Y/n) told him.
Wednesday turned to her. "You knew about this?"
She shrugged sheepishly. "Maaaaybe?"
"You're lucky you're cute." He mumbled to her.
"I thought my cake idea was pretty inspired." Xavier said.
"The pink balloon was my little touch." Enid added. "Why don't you make a wish?"
Wednesday turned away from the cake and noticed some words carved into a ledge on the crypt walls.
He forgot about the party, and walked towards the writing. "Wait, it's Latin. 'Fire will rain...when I rise.'" He read.
"Okay, that's not really a wish." Enid pointed out.
"The first part of that phrase was burned onto Nevermore's lawn. It can't be a coincidence."
"Wait, we're never eating that cake are we?" Ajax realized.
Wednesday slowly reached out and touched the writing and his head flew back, and he fell backwards.
...
"Crackstone is coming." A voice whispered.
Wednesday opened his eyes and found himself laying on the ground in a field of grass.
"Crackstone is coming."
Wednesday stood up and saw a giant gate in front of him, and a figure stood behind the gate.
"Gabriel." Wednesday said.
"You are the Raven in my bloodline." He said, and suddenly appeared to Wednesday's right. "Wednesday."
"I was told you could teach me how to control my ability."
"There is no controlling a raging river." Gabriel replied. "You must learn to navigate it without drowning. Time is not on our side."
Gabriel turned towards the giant gate. "To stop Crackstone, this place you must seek."
"Do you always speak in riddles?" Wednesday asked.
"Do you always seek simple answers?" Gabriel retorted. "The path of a Raven is a solitary one. You end up alone, unable to trust others, only seeing the darkness within them."
"What about your wife? I thought she was supposed to be your light?"
Gabriel's face turned sad and he stared down at the ground. "She was. She helped keep me out of the darkness. But I let my obsession with revenge over take me, and I stopped letting her in. It is my biggest regret. I know you have found someone too. Don't let what happened to me happen to you, or you will lose her." He warned.
"Is that supposed to scare me?" Wednesday asked.
Gabriel stared at him with blank face.
"It should."
