Chapter 56 (1x06)

Elijah found Cassidy rooting through the fridge to make herself breakfast. Elijah leant in the doorway and smiled at her.
"Good morning, darling."
"'Lijah!" Cassidy turned to grin at him. "Morning." She pulled ice cream out of the freezer, reminding herself to just blame all of her weird eating habits on her pregnancy hormones if anyone asked.
"So..." Elijah walked further into the kitchen towards his pregnant mate. "You realise that you live in a house full of vampires, don't you? We were all here, listening to Davina explain the Harvest to you."
"You did?" Cassidy's eyes widened a fraction as she shoved a spoon into the ice cream. "Please don't bring it up to her. Vina is going through so much involving the Harvest that I had to give Bonnie a call, so she's going to drop off some grimoires later."
"I won't mention anything to Davina." Elijah reassured. "But I do have some concerns about these murderous witches."
"They're evil. And, my life is still magically linked to Sophie Deveraux, which is not comforting." Cassidy muttered, also quite worried. She really did despise Sophie.
"Yes, I think it's time we took care of that little problem." Elijah smirked, just as Rebekah walked in, approaching the two.
"Bekah!" Cassidy smiled at the sight of her.
"Morning, gorgeous." Rebekah pecked Cassidy's lips before turning to Elijah. "Now, about taking care of these witches, I am all for it. As soon as they're unlinked, we get to leave this crap town. Who do we have to kill?"
"Probably no one." Elijah considered it for a moment, but Cassidy shot her noble mate a significant look of disbelief. Elijah sighed. "Alright, potentially everyone."
---
In her bedroom, Cassidy was flicking through the grimoires that Bonnie had kindly sent over, along with a note:
Hope these help!
Missing you,
-B
With a small smile, Cassidy collected the three grimoires up and prepared to go to Davina's room to deliver them to her, but the second that Cassidy stood up from her bed, she suddenly yelped in pain and instinctively grabbed her neck. When she pulled her hand away, she noticed blood on her fingers from a small puncture wound that was already starting to heal. Rebekah heard her shout and rushed into the room.
"What's wrong?" Rebekah asked, worried.
"It felt like I was being stabbed." Cassidy informed, confused and concerned.
---
Rebekah entered Cassidy's bedroom, where Cassidy was sitting in an armchair.
"Time for mini-Nik and mini-you to snack!" She held out a basket of apples and Cassidy picked one up. "How's your neck?"
"I feel fine... which is weird. I'm sure it's Sophie-related." Cassidy sighed.
"You better not die on me, Cassidy Forbes, or I will be finding a way to go down with you." Rebekah smirked, leaning down to kiss Cassidy's forehead. Cassidy smiled in amusement and let out a chuckle as she went to bite the apple in her hand, but she suddenly started to feel woozy before she got the chance to eat it. Rebekah frowned in concern. "What's wrong?"
"I don't know..." Cassidy softly shook her head. "Probably morning sickness..."
"Oh, you're burning up, actually." Rebekah mentioned, placing a hand on Cassidy's forehead.
---
Cassidy lay in bed as Rebekah blotted sweat from her forehead and chest with a washcloth and Davina stood to the side, worried.
"I feel like I've been microwaved." Cassidy groaned.
"This is Sophie's doing. She must have been stuck with some important needle, that's what caused this wound and your illness." Davina informed after investigating the dried blood on Cassidy's neck from the healed wound. The young witch stood straight angrily. "I have a feeling that needle is bad. The longer you are linked to Sophie, the more in danger you are. I am going to start working on an unlinking spell." Davina hurried out of the room, passing Elijah, who was heading in, Sophie following not far behind. Davina glared at Sophie as she passed, but said nothing and headed to her room.
Rebekah looked appalled when she saw who Elijah had brought with him.
"What the hell is she doing here?"
"I'm trying to help." Sophie defended, sighing quietly.
"Help? You're the reason we're in this bloody mess!" Rebekah snapped before glancing at Elijah. "Davina is just about to start on an unlinking spell. She's as worried as I am that Cassidy is stuck linked to Sophie. It puts her in so much danger."
"I know." Elijah nodded. "And until Davina succeeds in the unlinking spell, we have to let Sophie do what she can."
"I may know a way to slow the fever down. But, I'm gonna need some special herbs." Sophie turned and looked at Rebekah. "I'll text you a list."
Though Rebekah did not look pleased to be being ordered around, she eventually relented... for Cassidy's sake.
"Fine. Let's just hurry this up." Rebekah exited the room in a hurry.
---
Cassidy was wrapped in a towel, sitting outside beside the swimming pool. Rebekah and Hayley stood on either side of her while Elijah assisted Sophie in helping with the herbs.
"She's burning up! We need to do this now." Hayley panicked.
"Get her in the water, and one of you needs to get in to support her." Sophie instructed. Elijah, Rebekah, and Hayley exchanged a look before Hayley stepped forward and climbed into the pool before the others could, all of them equally worried for their mate, and Hayley helped Cassidy in. Sophie mixed herbs in a cup and followed them into the water as well. "Her temperature is sky-high. The water, with the help of the herbs, should cool us down." She handed Cassidy the herbal concoction. "Drink this!" She turned to Hayley. "You're going to have to get her heart rate down by holding her. It's a natural human remedy to slow the heart rate and reduce blood pressure."
Hayley wasted no time in wrapping her arms around Cassidy, pulling her closer.
"Davina will break the link, we just need time." Elijah sighed, pacing back and forth on the pool edge. Cassidy clung to Hayley and groaned as she gasped for breath.
"I can't breathe!"
"Okay, take long, deep breaths! Look at me. Long deep breaths, babe, just focus on the sound of my voice." Hayley lowered her voice to a whisper. "You'll be okay. You'll be okay..."
Cassidy suddenly screamed in pain and thrashed in Hayley's hold. Sophie started to gasp as Davina was finally managing to lift the linking spell from her bedroom. Cassidy continued to groan in pain. Sophie looked up at the sky, looking almost disappointed.
"I just felt it lift."
Rebekah and Elijah both sighed in relief. Cassidy started to calm down. She still leant against Hayley, still weak from the spell. Sophie removed one of her earrings and poked her palm with it. Cassidy looked at her palm, and she and Hayley both looked relieved when she's not injured.
"Come on, let's go." Hayley led Cassidy out of the pool.
"Elijah..." Sophie turned towards Elijah. "As soon as your brother finds out that the link is broken, he'll kill Agnes. I know you don't owe me anything, but please, don't let him kill her. She's our only access to the power we need to survive. Promise me that you'll stop him!"
Elijah ignored her and dialled a number into his phone before raising it to his ear.
"It's me, where are you?"
"Brother! I'm at the Church with the traitorous Agnes who tried, and failed, to harm my family."
"Don't hurt her. I'll be there shortly." Elijah hung up and turned to Sophie. "I'll make you one last promise. I won't let my brother kill Agnes."
Sophie nodded at him gratefully, and Elijah walked away. Once Hayley had helped Cassidy out of the pool, the pregnant siphon approached Sophie.
"I know you were just using me to save your people, but try it again, I'll kill you." Cassidy then left with Hayley and Rebekah.
---
Elijah called Rebekah from the house later that evening, and Rebekah answered fairly quickly.
"Elijah? What is it?"
"Is she with you?"
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"Cassidy's gone. Where is she?"
"Wait, what? I-I only got her into bed 10 minutes ago. Where the hell could she have gone, Elijah?!"
