Chapter 7 (2x13)
Word Count: 1971
A knock on the door of Cassidy's bedroom was heard, causing the siphoner to look up from her book. Caroline peaked her head in.
"Hey, Cassie."
"Care." Cassidy sat up with a smile, placing her book on her bedside table. "What's up?"
"Um..." Caroline sighed. "Do you want to go for some coffee?"
---
"...so, then Tyler accuses me of knowing about how Mason dies, and of course I do but I didn't know what to say in that moment, obviously! I sent Stefan to try and calm him down but I've been feeling awful! I don't even know how he found out about me knowing!" Caroline ranted as she and Cassidy exited the Mystic Grill. They spent the first time of them hanging out with just drinking and chatting, but Cassidy had noticed Caroline acting weird and demanded that she speak. So, she did. They started heading towards Caroline's car which they drove to the Mystic Grill in. "And then, Matt comes up to me and it's super awkward, and I agreed to meet him later tonight to talk about, well, us." Caroline began searching her handbag for her car keys as the car came into view up the road. "Advice would be nice."
"I don't know what to tell you, Care." Cassidy shrugged after patiently listening through all of her sister's rambling. "Tyler will forgive you eventually as, given your past ramblings, he definitely has a thing for you. As for Matt... I thought you were going to tell him that you are waiting for your mate."
"Yes, I was going to! But... I just got all flustered and weird! I'll tell him tonight... maybe. I don't know." Caroline gave up, unlocking her car. Cassidy went around the car to get into the passenger's seat but jumped a mile high when she saw a woman stood there.
"Jesus mother of God! Don't do that!"
"Sorry." The woman muttered, her face straight and void of any emotion.
"Um, are you okay?" Cassidy asked. "I'm not going to have to yell 'stranger danger', am I?"
The woman let out an unamused chuckle.
"You're exactly how I pictured you to be... Elijah is lucky... a mate with humor and powers."
"How the hell do you know about my powers?"
"You used them to burn me, remember? Back in the Salvatore place?"
Cassidy was completely off-guard. The woman was the wolf she burned... Damon had told her that her name was Jules.
"Caroline, let's get out of here. Now." But as both Caroline and Cassidy went to get into the car, a man appeared behind Caroline and snapped her neck, and Jules stabbed a syringe into Cassidy's neck, knocking her out.
---
Caroline and Cassidy both woke up in a cage in an RV.
"Cassie..." Caroline crawls over to her sister. "Are you okay?"
"Yes..." Cassidy slowly sat up. "Are you?"
"Yeah... let's get out of here." Caroline tried to unlock the cage, but she was too weak to break out. "Damn it... those nutjob wolves pumped me with vervain. I'm too weak."
"Pity." A man walked in — the same man who snapped Caroline's neck — and cockily grinned at them. "I've got more if you want it. The name's Brady."
"We didn't ask." Cassidy snapped, angrily gripping the bars of the cage. She grabbed Caroline's arm and siphoned her. Caroline winced a little at the sudden pull of her magic but eventually got used to it. Once Cassidy had more than enough magic, she raised her hand through the bar and gave Brady one heck of an aneurysm, causing him to drop down to the floor, groaning in pain and clutching his head. Jules then walked in, looked at the groaning Brady on the ground, and then turned to glare angrily at Cassidy.
"I don't think so, Miss Witch." Jules raised a gun (full of wooden bullets) in her hand and aimed it at Cassidy.
"No!" Caroline immediately cried out in protest. "You'll kill her!"
"Okay." Jules smirked, and with that, she pulled the trigger.
The bullet tore through Cassidy's shoulder and she immediately fell back, releasing the spell. Brady jumped to his feet and smirked as he and Jules watched blood gush from Cassidy's shoulder.
The siphoner was breathing heavily, going extremely pale as she tried to blink through the unbearable pain in her shoulder. Jules and Brady left the RV to consult with some more werewolves. Caroline weakly crawled over.
"Cassie... oh, my God... I'm going to get the bullet out, okay? Just... ugh! I'm so sorry..." Caroline squeezed her eyes shut, digging her fingers into Cassie's wound for the bullet. As Cassidy screamed out loudly in agony, Caroline blinked away her tears. Hearing Cassidy scream like that was the worst sound that Caroline had ever heard in her life.
Once she successfully found the bullet, Caroline was careful to extract it and throw it elsewhere. She crawled behind the siphoner and bit into her wrist, and Cassidy was quick to drink the vampire blood, her entire body relaxing as the pain began to subside and the wound healed. She let go of Caroline wrist and slumped to the side, trying to catch her breath.
"Elijah is going to kill them after that." Caroline realised. "He'll have no mercy."
"The only time Elijah and I have spoken today was our morning messages. He's probably too busy..." Cassidy mumbled after she'd gotten her breathing under control. Caroline furrowed her eyebrows.
"Do you not know how the mate bond works, Cassie? Elijah loves you, and once he finds out that the bitchy she-wolf literally shot you, he will have absolutely no mercy. He will reign terror on all of them for harming you!"
"God, I hope you're right." Cassidy murmured. "Because I can't be stuck here for much longer... they bloody found a witch to magic-proof the cage, so we are really stuck now."
---
Caroline and Cassidy were still in the cage, but Brady had returned.
"So, how many vampires are there in this town anyway?" He wondered. Caroline didn't answer, so he shot her with a squirt gun filled with vervain. She screamed, and Cassidy angrily banged on the bars of the cage.
"Stop it!" She raised her hands to use the last of the magic she'd siphoned from Caroline, but Brady locked his eyes on her, prepared to pick up the gun that lay at his feet.
"You try anything, witch, and I'll put a bullet through your pretty little head."
That definitely made Cassidy lower her hand.
"Why are you doing this? Why?!" Cassidy demanded, furious.
"You're a witch, your sister's a vampire. Why not?"
"For goodness sake..." Cassidy banged on the cage again. "I'm not a bloody witch, you moron! If you haven't noticed, there's a huge difference between what I am and what a witch is!"
"Yes, there is. But from what I have gathered so far... you are much more powerful than the average witch, which makes you much more dangerous." Brady slowly rose to his feet. "Which makes you our number one target to kill. We don't care what your original mate thinks about it; he is next."
"Good luck with that. He'll tear your heart out!" Cassidy yelled, and Brady stormed out of the RV again.
---
Tyler rushed into the RV and saw Caroline and Cassidy in the cage.
"Tyler, there's a latch! There's a latch on the door and we can't get to it!" Caroline immediately rushed when she noticed him, but Cassidy was the one who noticed his hesitation.
"Tyler, what the hell? I don't think this is the time to hold grudges, so just open the god damn latch! Now, you idiot! For Caroline!"
So, Tyler rolled his eyes and gave in, walking toward the cage and opening it for the sisters. But as soon as Caroline and Cassidy rushed out and exited the RV, Caroline was pushed roughly against it by Jules with a gun to her head, and Cassidy was held in a tight choke hold by Brady in a way that her neck would be snapped with one movement. Tyler just stood there like the idiot Cassidy never hesitated to call him, not doing anything to help.
One werewolf grabbed a stake and was about to kill Damon, but suddenly, all of the werewolves except Tyler began to scream in pain. They all covered their ears with their hands and fell to their knees.
"What's happening?" Cassidy asked, confused, once Brady had released her and sunk to the ground in pain, mumbling 'not again'.
And then, a witch — or warlock — appeared. He was walking with his hands held out while he was casting a painful aneurysm spell on the werewolves. Damon and Stefan got up off the ground.
"Elijah knows what happened here and he will be back to slaughter each and every one." The warlock told, looking right at Cassidy as he did. "He would like to make sure you are alright. Come with me." So, Cassidy nodded and slowly walked over to the warlock, who then looked at Tyler. "When your friends awaken, give them a message: Elijah is coming for them... and there is no point in running. They made a big mistake with who they targeted."
And with that, the warlock walked away and gestured for Cassidy to follow him, which she did after reassuringly nodding at the others.
---
The second that the warlock — who introduced himself as Jonas Martin — took Cassidy to his house where Elijah was waiting for them, they quickly entered and Cassidy was instantly pulled into the arms of her mate.
"Are you alright, darling? I'll kill them. I'll kill them all."
"I'm okay, 'Lijah. I promise." Cassidy reassured and Elijah pulled back to check her for injuries. Smelling blood, he looked at her shoulder to see the healed wound that still had dried blood covering her shoulder. Elijah's eyes grew darker as an overwhelming rage overtook him.
"I'm going to rip their hearts out."
"I'm okay! I'm okay, I'm all healed!" Cassidy explained. "They just wanted Tyler. I was collateral damage, that's all."
"But you didn't have to be! They never should have laid a finger on you!"
"I want them to suffer, too, but not to death." Cassidy said. She looked around and saw that Jonas had left the second he'd dropped her off there, so Cassidy raised her hand and laid it on Elijah's cheek gently. "Just forget about them... please. Can't you just be here for me?"
Elijah was hesitant, still wanting to slaughter every single one of those wolves, but his rage slowly started to subside.
"Of course." He pulled Cassidy back into his arms and held her close to him. They just stood there for multiple minutes, wrapped in eachothers arms. "Are you free to spend the night?"
"I'd have to drop my mom a call, but yes." Cassidy muttered against his chest. Elijah kissed the top of her head.
"Good. Because I don't want to let you out of my sight." He pulled away from Cassidy slightly to press a soft kiss to her lips.
And as Cassidy spent the night with Elijah, she soon discovered how much of a gentleman he was. Nothing happened between the two... well, except one steamy make-out, but that was as far as they took it. After that, she slept in one of Elijah's shirts that he leant to her that smelled like him, which Cassidy loved. But when he gave it to her, she obviously couldn't help but comment on it.
"I'm surprised you own any normal shirts, Mr Suit Guy."
That night, the two slept peacefully, wrapped in eachothers arms. It was the best sleep that either of them had gotten in a long time.
