Chapter 31

JORDAN'S POV
3:00 pm Wednesday
I planned on going to my tree house and stop by Jay's to get some weed or liquor. I am almost to his house. When I pass the pet store and u-turn quickly. I stare at all the puppies that are prancing in the window. I watch them all but my eyes are latched to the black puppy who is just standing there evaluating me, silently. I walk into the store.
"Can I help you?"
"Yeah, how much is that one." I say pointing at the black puppy.
"Oh, she's $250 because she is not as good and happy as the others."
"Whatever," I snort. "Can I hold her?"
The worker scuffs over to the little puppy's kennel and roughly grabs her by the neck. She hands her to me, immediately licks my face and snuggles into me, " I want her. I'll take her."
"If you say so."
I buy her a leash, a collar, a sweater and some food.
"Do you have a name for her?" The lady says.
"Shadow Galaxy Lovato- Jonas." I state proudly. She carves it into her tag with my number and address.
I pull my hoodie out and tuck her into my chest, and take off on my longboard to my house. When I get there Shadow is asleep, I glance at the door and see a sign. I walk up to it and it reads:
Crime scene, no not enter.
Trespassing.
I stare at it confused, my phone rings.
"RIVER JONDANA WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?"
"My house." I mumble staring at the sign still.
"Get your ass home now!"
Mom hangs up and I walk to the end of the drive way. I feel Shadow squirming. I put her collar on and leash. Then I hop on my longboard and cruise and she walks beside me. When I'm going down hill I pick her up. When I walk up the drive way I unleash her and she hops along.
When I get to the door I notice that Mom, Dad, and Dallas' cars out front. I slip Shadow into my hoodie and pray she will stay still and quiet. I open the door and immediately mom yells, "KITCHEN NOW!"
I slowly slump into the kitchen door way. We all stare at each other to start talking. I feel Shadow shuffle.
"What's in your shirt?" Mom hisses her face red with fury.
I don't say anything. She steps closer, "JORDAN! What is in your shirt!" She yells causing Shadow to whimper and tremble. "I'm going to ask one more time. Jordan what is in your shirt." she whispers, as she steps closer.
I take a step back into the wall, "God damnit, Jordan I can't do this. Give me your phone, your ipod, you are not going to that competition. Do you understand me!"
"I am going to that competition." I state bluntly.
"Excuse me?" She asked blinking shocked.
"I said I am going to that competition.  You are not going to take dance away from me. You promised me, you wouldn't do that. Look, you fucking lied but here's the thing you are not gonna take that from me."
"Did you fucking tell me, your MOTHER what you are and are not going to do? Give me your phone."
I reach into my back pocket and grab my phone, "You want it?" I throw it at the wall behind her above her head. "THERE!" I scream, everyone flinches and I sprint from the kitchen to my room and lock the door. Mom, Dad, Dallas bang on the door. I just let them bang on the door. Shadow and I sit in the corner of the closet. I don't remember falling asleep but Maddie wakes me up.
"Jordan, wake up. What are you doing?"
"Go away. What are you doing? How did get in here."
"You know she has keys to every room, and that dog has been barking. I let it out back."
"Oh shit thanks, what time is it?"
"Like 10:30, what's going on?"
"Nothing. By the way the dogs name is Shadow."
"Okay, but seriously what is going on? Why are you being such a bitch?"
"Fuck off, you don't even know me."
"I know that you were fucking hateful to both of my sisters and they have done nothing to you."
"Get out. Just go away." She stomps away. I go outside and sit in the grass as Shadow prances around me. "You and me, forever. Only thing in this world I want." I whisper to her.
The grass crunches next to me, "What's going on in that little mind of yours?" Dad asks.
I nearly tackle him with a hug and begin to sob. Shadow climbs up my lap and looks at me. "I don't know."
I feel the grass crunch on the other side of me. "What's going on?" Mom ask as I snuggle closer to Dad.
I begin to cry harder when I feel Mom lay her head on my shoulder and rub circles on my back. "Hey, breathe it's okay." Dad whispers.
I take a deep breath, "I'm so sorry. I was scared I'm sorry."
"Hey, it's okay breathe come on."
"I'm sorry I was scared." Mom place my hand on her stomach.
"Here baby match my breathing come on, one." Mom says.
"Two" Dad says.
"Three." I say shaky as Shadow stares at me.
"There you go breathe, now talk to me. Why were you so rude to Dallas and then leave like that?"
"I didn't mean to be a bitch, it just happened. I just got scared. I'm sorry."
"You got scared of what?" Mom whisper.
I'm ashamed to admit it, "You."
"Wh-what?" She asks.
"I thought you were gonna hit me. You were yelling and I got scared. That's why I threw my phone, I'm sorry."
"No baby. I'm sorry I shouldn't have yelled, I didn't mean to scare you. I was just worried. I've been working really hard, it's not your fault. I would never ever hurt you."
"I know, I'm sorry." Mom and I hug for a second. While Dad brings Shadow to his face, and she just stares at him with her head slightly tilted.
"What is this little things name?" He says.
I chuckle, "Shadow Galaxy Lovato-Jonas." I smile.
"Aw! It has our last name." Dad smiles.
"Why wouldn't she after all it is my last name."
"Very true. But, um... Jordan where did you get the money for her?" Mom asks.
"I have a stash for dance and sports stuff. I took some of it for some stuff but instead I bought shadow." I explain. I take a deep breath, "Do you guys know why my parents house is a crime scene?"
I feel Mom flinch, " I thought you knew."
"Knew what?"
"That is where Sam took you, that's where I found you."
"Oh," I say shyly.
"I'm sorry, baby, I seriously thought you knew."
"Why would he do that to me? He knows that's my place to go when I need to be alone." I whisper.
"I don't know why people like him would do anything they do."
My stomach growls loudly,"Let's get you something to eat."
"I'm not hungry."
"That's not what your stomach says. Plus you haven't eaten all day. "
"Fine." I whine and follow Mom inside and sit at the kitchen table while Mom makes something.
"Here you go." she says setting a plate of apple, kiwis, pears, carrots, broccoli, and a small bowl of soup and a glass of chocolate milk in front of me. I eat. Then go knock on Dallas' door.
"Come in." She says and I push the door open she's sitting on her bed with her laptop.
"I just wanted to tell you that I'm sorry for being a bitch."
"It's okay, come give me a hug." I give her a hug.
"Can I look something up real fast." I search for Mom's video of her dance for her seventeenth birthday. "Thank you. I love you." I go to living room and snuggle into Mom let her hold me till I fall asleep.
