Steve- "Hi Becca," I said as she approached the table and hugged her
Becca- "Steve," I said hugging him back then said "Hi Lissy"
Lissy- (no response) I was sitting at the table with my earbud in and texting on my phone
Steve- "Lissy"
Lissy- (no response)
Steve- "Allyssa"
Lissy- "Huh"? I said looking up and seeing my Dad standing there with Becca
Becca- "Hi Lissy"
Lissy- "Oh...hi Becca," I said looking up and then looking back down
Steve- I was about to say something but noticed Becca shaking her head no. Indicating that I shouldn't push it anymore. "Where are you, parents? I thought I saw them come in with you"? I asked pulling a chair out for Becca
Becca- "My mom left something in the car so she went back and my Dad went with her." I said as I sat down
Steve- "Okay," I said as I pushed the chair back in
Lissy- I was texting my best friend Alexis about maybe having a sleepover tonight
Text messages
Lissy- "That sounds fun but I don't know if could go"
Alexis- "Why not"?
Lissy- " I'm meeting my Dad's girlfriend's Becca parents for the first time"
Alexis- "But hasn't your Dad been dating her for a while. I would think that you would've seen them already."
Lissy- "I've talked to them on face time but never in person"
Alexis- "Why"?
Lissy- " Because every time we planned it they are either out of town or my Dad and I are out of town. And none of us could change the plans"
Alexis- "Oh I see"
Lissy- "sorry"
Alexis- "It's okay"
Steve- "Allyssa McKenzie"
Lissy- I look up and see both Becca and my Dad looking at me. Becca is smiling and my Dad not smiling. He is giving me a stern look. I slowly slide my phone under my leg
Becca- "My parents are excited to meet you, Lissy," I said
Lissy- "Me too," I said then went back on my phone
Steve- "Allyssa..."
Becca- "Dad! Mom! Over here" I said waving to them as they came in.
Steve- "Either get off of your phone or it goes to me" I whispered into her ear
Lissy- I slide my phone under my leg as soon as Becca's parents came to our table.
Steve- "Mr. and Mrs. Jones it's nice to see you again"
Mrs. Jones- "For the hundredth time's Steve please call me Amanda and my husband Eric"
Steve- "Are you sure"?
Mr. Jones- " Yes Steve we insist it."
Steve- "Alright. Eric and Amanda I would like to introduce you to my daughter Allyssa. Alyssa these are my Becca parents, Eric and Amanda Jones."
Mr. Eric and Mrs. Amanda- "Hi Allyssa".
Lissy- "Hi Mr. Jones and Mrs. Jones," I said shaking their hands
Mr. Eric- "How are you doing this evening"?
Lissy- " I'm doing well. How are you"?
Mr. Eric- "I'm doing well"
Mrs. Amanda- "Allyssa I have something for you. It's from both of us" I said pulling out a box
Steve- "You didn't need to get her a gift, Amanda"
Becca- "I told my mom there was no need to but she insisted to"
Lissy- "Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Jones"
Mr. Eric- "If it's okay with your Dad you can open it now"
Lissy- I looked over to my Dad which he nodded his head. I opened the box up and found this
Lissy- "It's beautiful! Thank you"!
Mrs. Amanda- " Your welcome"
Mr. Eric- "We are glad that you liked it"
Lissy- "Thank you"!
*Later On*
-Driving Home-
Dad- " So did you like Beccas parents in person? Besides face timing them"?
Lissy- "Yup even before they gave me the gift"
Dad- "That's good"
Lissy- "They seem nice"
Dad- "They are very nice people."
Lissy- "Why did they give me a gift"?
Dad- " Becca told me that since her parents don't have any grandchildren they think of you as their grandchild even though we aren't part of their family. Plus Becca's mom has been wanting to give you a gift for a long time. But every time we planned on meeting them it didn't work out.
Lissy- "Did they do it to win me over to like them"?
Dad- " Most definitely not. They aren't that of people. They made it very clear to me that they wanted to give you this gift not to win you over but because we're excited to see you"
Lissy- "I'm happy you are seeing Becca Dad. I like her"
Dad- "Glad to hear that sweetie. I like her to"
Lissy- "Dad"?
Dad- " Hmm"?
Lissy- "Are you going to marry her"?
Dad- " I hope so. I wanted to make sure you liked her parents and they liked you before I do anything"
Lissy- "Oh"
Dad- "Even if I do marrying her. I'll ask you first then Becca parents"
Lissy- I nodded my head
Dad- "It's going to be for a while until I do ask her".
Lissy- " How come"?
Dad- "I want to make sure the time is right to ask."
Lissy- I nodded
