Luna's Pov
Finally it was summer vacation.
Before dad met Tasha and got married we would always hang out together.
He would take me to go shopping and buy some toys as a kid.
He would sometimes take me to the beach and we would stay there till dark.
We would eat ice cream together, play in the sand, and go for a swim.
Now that he got married to Tasha and her and Leo moved in with us I thought we would've spent time together as a nice happy family.
But I was dead wrong.
Dad decided that summer vacation meant that he could spend more time testing out the trios bionics.
It's annoying and dumb.
So right now me and Leo are in the lab while dad and the trio are testing out something.
The trio each had this thing around their necks while dad was using some sort of device.
He was able to control their movements with that device and that's what they're doing now.
"If you're bored we can always sneak out and do something fun" I whispered to Leo.
"If this continues we make our escape" Leo whispered back and we both fist bumped.
"Come on, Big D, it's summer vacation! Let's hit the beach. Slap on some shorts and show everyone your pasty little walking sticks!" Leo cheered and I giggled.
"Not now, Leo. We're doing some routine bionic chip maintenance. Besides, this is fun, right, guys?" Dad asked.
"Good times" Adam said sarcastically.
"A blast" Chase said sarcastically.
"I'd rather watch Tasha's doing the news then be here" I complained and dad glared at me.
"Okay, are we done here? I wanna go be normal for a while" Bree yelled in complete annoyance and I agreed.
She took off her neck thingy and threw it at dad's computer and sparks flew.
Tasha walked in with a tray of drinks in her hands and she dropped them all to the ground.
"Can't we go just five minutes without something sparking, exploding, or oozing around here?" Tasha asked in complete annoyance.
"Ever since summer vacation started, it has been like one long science experiment" Tasha said and I nodded.
"I'm sorry, honey. I... you know... maybe... maybe Leo's right. Maybe we need to take a break and go to the beach" Dad said.
Me and Leo smiled at each other and high fived.
"Ahh!" Adam cheered.
"Yeah!" Bree cheered.
"We'll take a whole weekend, as a normal family, you know? No gadgets, no phones. We'll do it totally tech-free" Dad agreed.
"Oh, that is exactly what I need. You would really do that for me?" Tasha asked with a smile.
"Of course. You are way more important to me than the amazing innovations born of my genius" Dad bragged and I rolled my eyes at him.
Tasha smiled and left the room to head upstairs.
"Wow, Big D, it's really nice of you to blow off work for my mom" Leo said.
"Yeah dad, I'm impressed" I said with a smile.
"Well, you know, Leo and pumpkin, now and then, everybody needs a little piece and..." dad started but was cut off by an alarm going off.
"Quiet!" Dad yelled as we all walked over to the monitor.
"It's the early warning satellite system" Chase said.
"It's detecting a giant solar flare" I said and dad nodded.
"When that thing hits the atmosphere, it'll cause massive power failures and a total blackout of satellite communications" Dad explained.
"Okay, I should tell my mom we're not going to the beach, then" Leo said as he began walking but dad caught up to him and pulled him back.
"No, no, no, no. Don't tell your mom a thing about this" Dad begged.
"Dad are you serious?" I asked.
"Oh, right. Let's just ignore the biggest solar flare in history to keep the little lady happy" Chase said sarcastically.
"Don't worry about the solar flare. I'll handle it. Just pack your stuff in the R.V. and get ready to get your beach on!" Dad cheered and we all looked at him weirdly.
"I know nobody says that. I know that" Dad quickly corrected himself.
We all laughed and were about to run upstairs but Adam stopped us and handed us some safety goggles.
"Adam, safety goggles aren't going to protect our eyes from the solar flare" I reminded him.
"No, but it will protect us from the glare when pasty-legs Davenport puts on his shorts" Adam said while laughing and we all nodded.
At The Beach
It took about 15 minutes before we finally arrived at the beach.
"All right, Tasha, your totally tech-free weekend starts now" Dad said and she smiled.
"Great. I'm gonna go claim our spot. If we wait too long, we're gonna end up sitting next to talkers. I hate friendly people" Tasha said.
"Same here" I agreed and everyone laughed.
"You go ahead. I'll be right there" Dad said.
"Ok" Tasha said with a smile as she left the R.V.
We all smiled and were about to leave but dad stopped us.
"Okay. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Where do you guys think you're going? Did you forget about the solar flare?" Dad asked.
"What do you expect us to do? Bionics can't stop a solar flare" Chase reminded him.
"No, but I have something that can" Dad said with a smirk.
He opened a small door behind a photo and put his hand print on it.
"Identity authorized" the R.V said. It soon changed into a similar version of the lab and we saw a cyber desk, a screen and a big rocket.
We all stared at the R.V in awe and looked at dad who was smiling.
"Welcome to the Davenport Industries mobile action lab" Dad announced.
"Very impressive, Big D. You're the master of the ta-da moment!" Leo said and I nodded.
"Ta-da. I call her the ugly lady because it's what's on the inside that counts. You guys will launch the rocket just like in your training simulations. It will block the solar flare by releasing a cloud of heavy gas into the atmosphere" Dad explained.
"Ooh" Bree said.
"Cool" Chase said.
"Sweet" I said.
"You're goin' down, sun!" Adam cheered and I giggled.
"This supercomputer is calculating the precise time that you need to launch the rocket. It could be minutes, it could be hours. You'll just have to wait and see" Dad explained.
"What, they have to be here all day?" I asked.
"In here? But we're supposed to go to the beach" Bree reminded.
"Yeah, and I was supposed to be six-foot-one. Life is full of disappointments" Dad said and I rolled my eyes.
"Great. So we all have to pay the price for another short guy with an axe to grind" Chase said sarcastically.
"Look, guys, focus. It takes all three of you to initiate the sequence. Once the alert sounds, you'll have a 2-hour window to launch the rocket before the flare becomes unstoppable. Got it?" Dad asked.
"Yeah, we got it. Saving the world's gonna ruin my vacation. Stupid world" Bree complained and I nodded.
"Guys, come on! You're missing all the fun! There is a bulldog in sunglasses riding a surfboard!" Tasha yelled, making me and Leo laugh.
Then we heard a loud splash.
"Ooh! Never mind!" Tasha yelled back.
"Be right there, honey!" Dad yelled and looked at the trio.
"Look, as soon as you guys launch the rocket and save the world, you can get outta here and go get your beach on" Dad said.
"Wow" Leo said.
"Please stop saying that" I begged and the others nodded.
"What, still nothing? You know what? I don't need your approval. I'm rich!" Dad cheered.
"And I'm your daughter who can beat your ass in two seconds, you wanna go there?" I asked and dad quickly shook his head.
"Am I the only person who thinks launching a rocket is cool?" Leo asked.
"Big D, go slather on some SPF fifty... thousand. I got this" Leo said.
"No, the only thing you've got is the uncanny ability to break the most expensive thing in the room" Dad said.
"Is this about your guitar?" Leo asked.
"Wait what?" I asked.
"What about my guitar?" Dad asked.
"Let's go! We're missing the surfing bulldog!" Leo yelled as he quickly ran out the R.V.
"What about my guitar?" Dad asked as he ran after Leo.
I sighed in annoyance and turned to the trio.
"No worries guys, I won't leave you, I'll stay with you" I said and they all smiled.
"Thank you so much Luna, you're the best" Bree said as she hugged me and I hugged back.
"Anytime" I said with a smile.
Bree and Adam walked over to the cyber desk while I walked over to Chase who was sitting on the couch and sat on his lap.
"Are you sure you want to stay? It's going to be boring" Chase asked.
I smiled and kissed his cheek.
"No worries babe, I'm alright. Besides, as long as you're here then nothing will be boring" I said.
He smiled and gave me a soft kiss on the lips.
"I love you" Chase said.
"I love you too" I said with a smile.
We kissed again, but this time a bit more passionate.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and he wrapped one arm around my waist.
I heard Bree and Adam making gagging noises but I ignored them.
We pulled away from the kiss and smiled at each other.
I rested my head into his chest and he wrapped his arm around me.
'I love this boy' I thought with a smile.
A Few Hours Later
It was absolutely boring.
We did nothing other then wait.
I was bored but I was with Chase the whole time so it was fine for me.
Just then we heard footsteps and saw Leo walking inside the R.V.
"Hey, super sibs. How's the mission going?" Leo asked.
"What do you think dumbass?" I asked in annoyance and Chase chuckled.
"This stinks! We're gonna waste the whole stupid day in this stupid lab waiting for this stupid computer. It's all just so... dumb" Adam complained.
"Why don't you take turns coming to the beach with me?" Leo asked.
"Hmm, that's not a bad idea" I said.
"We can't. The launch procedure requires all three of us" Chase said.
"Mmm, but if there are three of us plus one, then two can stay and two can go until we need three, and then one can stay and one can run and get the one who's having fun with the other one" Adam explained.
We all stared at him in shock and he just smiled at us.
"Wait. Somebody check my math" Adam said and we all smiled.
"He's right. Someone pat him on the head and give him a biscuit" Chase said and Adam started dancing.
"Cool, so one of us can leave" Bree said.
"Looks like it" I said, getting off of Chase's lap.
"I think that we should put it up to a..." Chase started but Bree cut him off.
"Me first, come on Leo, you too Luna" Bree said.
She grabbed both of our arms and superspeeded us out of the R.V.
Once we left we immediately walked around the place.
We played some games and me and Bree won teddy bears, along with Leo.
We bought some snacks while playing more games along the way.
It lasted for about 35 minutes before we were going to make one more stop when we saw Chase trying to copy a man in silver.
We all walked up to him and he faced us.
"Chase, what are you doing here?" Bree asked.
"Watching this guy. People keep giving him money, but he just won't leave" Chase said with a smile.
"Babe, you're supposed to be watching the mobile lab" I reminded him.
"No worries baby, Adam's watching it" Chase said.
"What's up, beach bums?" Adam yelled as he walked up to us while holding a try of 20 ice crema cones.
"What in the name of hades?" I asked.
"Adam, what are you doing here?" Chase asked.
"Well, I wanted an ice cream cone, but they had 21 flavors. And you know me-- I'm never one to make an uninformed decision" Adam explained.
"Can't argue there" I said and Adam nodded.
"Adam, get rid of those. We need to get back to the mobile lab" Leo reminded him.
"Oh, right. Free ice cream!" Adam yelled as he took an ice cream off his tray, licked it and handed it to a random stranger.
"Oh, and don't worry, it's barely licked" Adam said and the guy looked at him weirdly and walked away.
"Let's go" I said as we all ran away to get back to the R.V in time.
We finally made it back in time, but the problem was, the R.V was gone.
It was fucking gone.
"Where's the mobile lab? It was parked right here" Bree said.
"It's gone" I said, clearly worried.
"Okay, all right, nobody panic" Chase said.
Then we heard Adam shrieking and we all turned to face him, "sorry. Brain freeze" Adam said.
"Where's the R.V.?" Adam asked and we all groaned.
Me, Adam and Leo sat down on some rocks while Bree and Chase were pacing around.
"How could the mobile lab just disappear?" Bree asked.
"Maybe it got tired of waiting and it split like we did" Adam said.
"I highly doubt that Adam" I said in annoyance.
"We have to tell Mr. Davenport" Bree said.
"Oh, yeah? And what are we gonna tell him? Hey, remember that really easy mission where all we had to do was sit around and wait? Well, guess what-- we totally blew it, and the world is toast. Oopsie" Chase said sarcastically.
"Relax babe" I said and he nodded.
"Freeze!"
We turned around and saw a beach sheriff on a toy scooter coming towards us, but because of the sand he was going really slow.
"Officer, we'd like to report a crime. Someone stole our R.V. from this spot, and it's super critical that we get--" Chase started but he cut him off.
"Cool your jets, spanky. I had it towed" the sheriff said in a weird ass surfer accent.
"What? Why?" Adam asked.
"Your car alarm's been goin' off for, like, an hour, dude. Plus, I thought it'd be funny to watch a little tow truck pull that huge thing away. It was."
"I'm this close to punching him in the face" I whispered to Leo and he nodded.
"Car alarm?" Chase asked.
"If you want your R.V. back, you're gonna have to cough up 200 clams" the sheriff said.
"Okay. But does it have to be clams? 'Cause, personally, I'm more of a shrimp guy" Adam said and I rolled my eyes at him.
"He means money" I said.
"Ooh, that makes more sense" Adam said and I nodded.
The sheriff ignored us and scooted away from us, still looking really stupid while doing it.
"You guys... that 'car alarm' was the alert tone telling us to launch the rocket!" Chase yelled.
"Oh shit" I said.
"Wait. So that means we have under an hour to collect $200, get the mobile lab back, stop the solar flare, and wrestle a shark" Leo said and we all looked at him weirdly when he mentioned the shark part.
"Oh, what? You're bionic, and we're at the beach. I'd like to do one fun thing today" Leo said and we all glared at him.
"We need to tell Mr. Davenport. He'll give us the money to get the R.V. back" Bree said.
"No. No way. We can still fix this. Come on, I know how we can get the money fast" Chase said as he walked away from us.
"Babe get back here, no one's gonna pay to see you wrestle a shark" I yelled to him as we all ran to catch up to him.
Chase told us to go some place with a lot of people and perform a side show so we could make some money.
"Ladies and gentlemen, step right up and see the wonders of Leo's legendary boardwalk freak show!" Leo announced.
"Side show" I reminded him.
"Whatever" Leo said and I rolled my eyes at him.
"First, direct your attention and your dollars to Adam, the incredibly but not suspiciously strong man!" Leo announced as everyone turned to Adam.
"Hey, little girl. You like bunnies?" Adam asked and the little girl nodded.
"Me too. Check this out" Adam said.
He then grabbed a pole and used his super strength to turn it into a bunny.
"Ohh!" the crowd cheered.
"Whoa!" Leo said.
"Here you go" Adam said as he handed the pole to the girl but she ended up dropping it.
"Oh-ho" me and Leo said.
Adam took off his hat and started going around so people could place money inside of it.
"Wow. Wasn't that amazing, folks?" Leo asked and everyone nodded.
"Now, keep your eyes and your wallets open for Bree, the magnificent mistress of magic" I announced.
"Okay, do I have a volunteer? Nope?" Bree asked but nobody put their hand up.
"Okay, looks like it's you, big guy" Bree said as she walked over to a middle aged man.
"Okay, people, keep your eye on the shell" Bree said as she held a shell in her hands.
She then superspeeded around the man and came back in front of him.
People stared at her in awe and started whispering to each other.
"Where is it?" Bree asked and the man pointed to her right closed fist.
"Nope. And look what's over here. Bam! Your driver's license" Bree said as she showed him his drivers license.
He took out his wallet and opened it, only to find his drivers license missing.
The audience clapped and cheered, clearly impressed.
"You know, I never would have guessed you were bald under there" Bree said and I giggled.
The man took his license back from her and walked away.
"Her flying fingers are quicker than the human eye, but it's actually a simple trick that's not that impressive once you know how it's done" I announced.
"And last but not least, let's keep it going for the amazing Chase, who will... what can you do that won't bore people?" Leo asked as Chase gave him an annoyed look.
"I got this" Chase said with a smirk.
"Now, if someone could kindly give me a prime number with at least four digits, I will mathematically extrapolate--" Chase started but Leo cut him off.
"Great job! Let's give him a hand" Leo cheered.
The audience looked upset and walked away to continue what they were doing.
"Yeah! Adam, go make another bunny. Make a bunny" Leo ordered him.
We heard the siren again and turned around to see the same beach sheriff coming towards us, still riding his scooter.
"Great show, little man" the sheriff praised.
"Thank you" Chase said with a smile.
"I was talkin' to him, dude" the sheriff said while pointing to Leo and Chase frowned.
"Oh" Chase said.
"No worries babe, I thought you did great" I whispered, making him smile.
"You totally bombed, bro. Now, unless you dudes want to shoot the curl on a longboard of hurt, you'd best show me your performance permits, like, right now" the sheriff said and my eyes widened in fear.
"Oh shit" I said.
"We don't have permits. We're busted" Adam said and I nodded.
"Oh, relax. He's wearing flip-flops, and his squad car has handlebars. He's not even a real cop" Chase said.
"That's true" I said with a smile.
The next thing we know were behind bars in a real jail Just fucking great.
"Yet he has a real jail" I said.
"Okay, there's only one thing left for us to do-- We have to find a way to get in touch with Mr. Davenport fast" Chase said and we all nodded.
"Uh, I'll just call him. Davenport" Adam yelled.
"That's not going to work Adam" I said and the others nodded.
The next thing we know dad was dragged in here by another cop.
Our eyes widened in shock and we looked at Adam who let out a laugh.
"I can't believe that worked" Adam said.
"I did not steal anything. That woman committed assault with a deadly floatie" Dad protested.
What the hell happened while we were gone.
When dad got inside the cell he stared at us for a few seconds before letting out a loud scream.
"Aah."
We all nervously smiled and waved at him.
"Long story short, Big D-- Botched mission, world is doomed, solar flare's a-comin. Oopsie" Leo explained.
"You know, an hour ago, I was a little freaked out because I didn't know what was happening, but now I think I prefer the mystery! What are we gonna do?" Dad asked.
"Adam can use his super strength to break us out" I suggested.
"Good one. Okay, we have to figure out a way to distract captain cocoa butter over there" Dad said.
"If only we had a burrito or, like, a monster wave, dude" Bree said.
"Luckily, there is a genius inventor in the house. Everybody empty your pockets. Come on" Dad said as we all went through our pockets.
"Uh, stick of gum" Leo said.
"Two dimes" Adam said.
"A dirty silver chain" I said.
"Nine-volt battery" Bree said.
"Bobby pin" Chase said.
"Bobby pin?" Dad asked.
"What? Bree had a 9-volt battery and my baby had a dirty silver chain but no one said anything about those things" Chase defended.
"Fair point" I said.
"All I have to do is take these items and fashion a makeshift phone out of them" Dad said and I looked at him weirdly.
"What am I talking about? This is a bunch of pocket junk. I can't do anything with this" Dad whined.
Just then we heard ringing and dad smiled.
"It works!" Dad cheered.
But it wasn't from dad's invention thingy, it was from the cops phone.
The cop soon left and this was our chance to leave.
"Now's our chance. Adam, be discreet. Just turn the lock pin every so slightly--" Dad said but Adam used his super strength and ripped the door off.
"Oops" Adam said.
"Well that works too" I said and dad nodded before we all ran out the cell to get to the R.V in time.
We ran as fast as we could and we made it in time, but when we got inside the R.V was a mess.
"Oh, no! Everything got all messed up when the mobile lab got towed" Adam said.
"This is bad. This is really bad" Chase said.
"Yeah, it is. Two hundred dollars to get my R.V. back, two hundred dollars for disorderly conduct, and a hundred dollars for stealing a cell phone. What were you thinking?" Dad asked.
"That was you" me and Leo yelled at him.
"There is a solar flare headed towards us right now!" Dad yelled.
"Ahh, I'm freakin' out!" Adam yelled.
"Look, don't panic. In simulations, you guys have launched this rocket in two minutes, and you've still got..." Dad started.
"Launch window closes in 60 seconds" the R.V said and all of our eyes widened in fear.
"Half that. Okay, we're gonna have to work together. Adam, pick up that rocket. Leo, find the launch keys. Bree, console. And, Chase, you're gonna have to help me figure out the launch vectors. The vectors are corrupt in every system. The computer isn't fast enough to recalculate them" Dad explained.
"Bree, how many words can you type in a minute?" Chase asked.
"All of 'em" Bree said.
"Right. I knew that. Okay, type this in" Chase said as Bree took the paper from him and began typing with her superspeed.
"Thirty seconds."
"Launch to 60,000 feet... Then change altitude to generate negative Q alpha within 4% of predicted trajectory, and then fire rocket thrusters to initiate..." Chase started.
"Done" Chase and Bree said.
"Done" Adam and Dad said together.
"Launch window closes in ten... nine..."
"Leo, pumpkin the launch key" Dad said and we started looking around.
"I-I found 'em, I found 'em" Leo said as he grabbed the keys and tossed me one of them which I easily caught.
"They have to be turned at the same time" Dad said and I quickly ran to the closet key hole.
"Where's the other keyhole?" Leo asked.
"Over there" Dad said while pointing to the other key hole.
"Four... three... two..."
"Aaahhh!" Leo yelled as he quickly ran to the other key hole and placed it inside the key hole.
"One."
Me and Leo quickly pushed the keys together and we all fell to the ground as the locket was launched.
We got up from the ground once the rocket was gone and dad ran to the console.
"Everything looks good. It's on target" Dad said.
"Did it work?" I asked.
"Solar flare neutralized" the R.V said.
"It worked! We did it!" Dad cheered.
We all cheered and hugged each other.
I hugged dad and he hugged back and placed a kiss on my cheek.
I ran over to Chase and smashed my lips onto his and he happily kissed back while wrapping one arm around my waist.
The others groaned and gagged but I didn't care.
We pulled away and smiled at each other.
"I love you" I said.
"I love you too" Chase said with a smile.
"Okay, now that that's finally taken care of, can we please go have fun at the beach?" Bree asked.
"Absolutely" Dad said and we all cheered.
We were going to leave but we heard another alarm.
"Oh no" Dad said and we all groaned.
"What now?" I asked in annoyance.
"Nothing. I'm just messing with you. It's my car alarm" Dad said and laughed.
"Really?" I asked in annoyance and all he did was shrug and we quickly ran out of the R.V.
Tasha was still in the same spot before and we all sat down before she saw us.
"Oh, hey, guys. Oh, I must have dozed off. Did you all have fun today?" Tasha asked.
"Sure did" Chase said.
"Yeah, tons of fun" Leo said.
"We weren't in jail, that's for sure" Adam said and we glared at him.
"Great. Well, I have had my fill of fun for the day, so... let's go home" Tasha said and we stared at her in disbelief.
"Wha-- Go home? But we didn't get to do anything fun yet" Bree argued.
"Wait. If you guys haven't had fun all day, then what have you been doing?" Tasha asked and gave us her suspicious stare.
We all looked at each other before dad spoke, "home it is, then" Dad said and we all nodded.
We quickly got our things and went back to the R.V to head home.
I sat on Chase's lap the entire ride home and cuddled into his chest.
