Lissy- "What about it"?
Dad- "Getting a hickey is one thing but in a public setting? That type of thing should be in a private setting."
Lissy- "It wasn't a public setting..."
Dad- "There were other people in the room when it happened, Allyssa."
Lissy- "So"?
Dad- " It's not something you want to do with other people in the same room. It's not appropriate or a responsible thing to do."
Lissy- "Then what's appropriate"?
Dad- " Doing it with no one else around. That does not mean I'm giving you permission to do it again. You are too young to be doing this."
Lissy- "But all of my friends are getting hickeys, and their parents don't make it a big deal."
Dad- "I'm not making it into a big deal at the moment but keep up this attitude, and I will."
Lissy- "Uggh"
Dad- "I highly doubt that your friend's parents are okay with their teenagers getting hickeys. But if they are, that's not my problem. They can parent their teenagers however they want to, and I can parent you the way I see appropriate. You are too young to have this type of relationship with teenage boys."
Lissy- "I'm fifteen years old, Dad! You have to let me do things."
Dad- "Like letting you have sex with teenage boys"?
Lissy- "No way! Why would you even say that."
Dad- "Because hickeys can end up with more than a mark on your neck, Allyssa. Things that are especially not appropriate for teenage girls and teenage boys your age."
Lissy- "I'm not going to get pregnant, Dad."
Dad- "I didn't say that would happen to you, Allyssa."
Lissy- "That's what you implied"!
Dad- " Lower your voice, Allyssa."
Lissy- "Sorry"
Dad- "I never said that you would get pregnant, Allyssa."
Lissy- "Then what did you mean"?
Dad- " You need to be careful when hanging out with boys. Teenage boys mind isn't always in the right place and so are girls mind. Once you let a teenage boy give you a hickey, you are like inviting him to do something else which he shouldn't be doing."
Lissy- "You don't know that. Boys aren't like that."
Dad- "Have you forgotten that I was once a teenage boy? I know how the mind works, Allyssa. I don't want anything bad to happen to you."
Lissy- "I get it."
Dad- "Do you, Allyssa"?
Lissy- " Basically no interaction with any teenage boys."
Dad- "I don't mind you hanging out with boys but not the way you did. I also don't mind you having a boyfriend when that time comes."
Lissy- "When will that be"?
Dad- " Most likely 17, but we will see when we get there."
Lissy- "That's a long time from now."
Dad- "When you are in school, you shouldn't be having any serious relationship with any boys. Being friends is okay but nothing else. I'm not saying you can't like any boys but no boyfriend or girlfriend relationship."
Lissy- "But what happens when I'm 18"?
Dad- " Once you are 18 and moved out and living on your own, I can't control what you do, but I hope what I teach you would learn. I'm not saying once your 18, you have to move out. But when you are financially stable, then you can.
Lissy- "I understand. What I did was wrong and wasn't appropriate. It won't happen again."
Dad- "Good"
Lissy- "I'm sorry, Dad."
Dad- "You are forgiven. You are still young and learning. You make mistakes, and there are sometimes consequences for them. So it's my job to teach you."
Lissy- "Thanks, Dad"
Dad- "Now for your punishment."
