Chapter Thirty-Nine.
“Baby, c’mon!”
I tickled her sides relentlessly as she kept laughing but it wasn’t my fault she said she wouldn’t cuddle with me tonight. That was all her and although I knew she was just joking I still loved to hear her laugh and tickling her was the best way to get it out of her.
“Say you will.” I laughed. “Say it.”
“Okay okay! We will I promise!”
So then I stopped and kissed her cheek repeatedly instead, which made her laugh even more as she fell onto her back on the leather chair of the jet, me landing on top of her and laughing until my sides hurt. Times like this I wish I could record but it would ruin it if I did. I loved her so much.
Over the course of the night on our way to Oslo the picture had been removed from Ben’s profile but not from every other profile known to mankind practically. Pretty much everyone had snapped shotted it and she was on the front page of every paper. Maybe not her picture, but her name and what happened was and I’ve been trying to keep her mind off of it all night even though I know she’s freaking out inside.
“We can watch some movies all night long baby. Maybe even a scary one because that way when you get scared you’ll cuddle with me even more, yeah?”
“Mhmmmmm.”
And then she started to smile and was about to lean in to kiss me but one of my securities entered back onto the plane and cleared his throat.
“You guys can get off now. Everything’s ready.”
“Alright thanks. We’ll be right there.”
He nodded his head and exited out of the door as I turned to look at Sophia who had a nervous expression on her face. I know that she didn’t want to do this and I wish I could just push the paparazzi away from her but unfortunately there’s no way of escaping it.
“It’s okay.” I soothed. “Remember what I said. All that matters is you and I and nobody else. Don’t worry about what they think.”
Then I stood up and grabbed onto her hand so we could get off the jet and walk into the airport. Our car was supposedly waiting right outside so she kept her head down as we entered, people just staring at us in amazement that we were actually there. These people weren’t the one’s I was worried about. The one’s I was worried about were outside.
“Keep your head up babe.” I whispered, wrapping my arm around her waist. “You are beautiful and you have nothing to be ashamed of.”
Her head came up and her palm was sweaty as she grabbed onto my hand but I gave it a gentle squeeze to reassure her that everything would be alright. Unfortunately when we walked outside I knew that wasn’t going to happen though.
“Sophia, Sophia why did you send a nude to someone else?!”
“Are you cheating on him?!”
“Stop being such a whore!”
This was even worse than I thought and the cameras were shoved so close to her face I got behind her and wrapped my arms protectively around her to try and keep her safe. They needed to back the hell away before I flipped shit. She didn’t deserve any ounce of this.
“Are you two together again!?”
“Why did you get back together?!”
“Don’t you think it’s about time you two split up!?”
“Don’t you think it’s about time you shut the fuck up?”
I couldn’t help but say something back and I was about to say something more until Sophia placed her hands on top of mine that were around her waist as if to tell me to stop it. I know I shouldn’t have said anything because now it’s going to be on the front page of every paper tomorrow but at this point I didn’t care. They can’t just say those things to her and put all of these doubts in her head and expect it to be okay. In no way shape or form was I going to let her think differently about us and if that means cussing out a paparazzi every now and then then so be it.
Finally we were in the safety of our car and Sophia let out an extremely frustrated sigh, putting her head on the back of the seat when we were finally alone and it was just the two of us again. I can only imagine the thoughts running wild throughout her head right now but I just wish she’d let them all go. She doesn’t need to be worried about what these assholes think.
“I wish you wouldn’t have done that.” She said.
What she said wasn’t what I expected because a part of me thought she’d be grateful for standing up for her, not upset about it. Now I’m just pissed because I did it for nothing.
“Well excuse me for trying to stand up for you? Next time I’ll just keep my damn mouth shut, Jesus.”
“Justin I’m not saying I’m not grateful for it but this mistake that I did should be on me. It’s already making your reputation go downhill so if you explode on a paparazzi it’s only making your reputation go down even further and I don’t want you to be ruined because of me. If that happens then I’d-“
“DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF?”
She jumped when my voice got louder but I couldn’t help but explode. I was beyond frustrated because she kept talking about the same damn thing that I continuously told her not to worry about.
“Jesus Sophia! Do you not understand that regardless of your mistake and regardless of what happened that it’s MY life that brings this shit on you? If it weren’t for me then that picture might have gone to like fifteen people not fifteen million. Stop blaming yourself for the things that MY life does to you. I’ve had enough of it. Beyond enough.”
“And if it weren’t for me so stupidly taking that photo of myself then they wouldn’t be hounding you in the magazines for dating a whore! Don’t YOU get that?”
She didn’t get it and she never would. She didn’t understand what I was trying to say and no matter how much I tried to explain it to her or how much I tried to somewhat have her comprehend it she just wouldn’t hear it because that’s the type of person she is. Sophia would rather blame herself than come to the realization that maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t her fault and that someone else can take the fall for it.
“If it bothers you that much Sophia then why the fuck are you still here?”
“Because I’m pregnant Justin! I can’t just up and leave when I’m pregnant with your child. It doesn’t work like that.”
I stared at her in disbelief and she immediately tried to reach for me because she knows what she just said was wrong. Nothing could stop the hurt that was in my heart right now and I don’t think anything ever could.
“Justin I didn’t mean that I didn’t want to stay I just-“
“So just because you’re pregnant with my child you feel like you’re trapped? By all means Sophia go ahead and leave. If this isn’t what you want and if being with me doesn’t make you happy then go for crying out loud. I don’t need you anyways.”
Then her mouth dropped open but she quickly closed it and didn’t freak out on me like I thought she would. Instead she just rolled her eyes and looked back out the window. She knew just as well as I did that I was speaking bullshit.
“Forget what I said.” I muttered. “You know damn well I need you.”
“And what I don’t understand Justin is that you don’t know how much I need you.”
She grabbed my hand in hers then and started to trace her fingertips around the palm of my hand just like she knew I loved and I finally looked her in the eyes, trying to keep my emotions at bay.
“What you don’t get is that I’m in love with you Justin and when I said yes to being your girlfriend, even though we hardly knew each other back then, I knew what I was getting myself into. I was a fan my entire life of you and I knew what getting into a relationship with you would bring so even though this stuff happens and even though they’re shouting horrible things at me, it’s not changing my opinion of you or about us. I am in love with the man that’s behind the cameras. The man that they don’t get to see. The man that’s caring and compassionate and sometimes gets a little bit insecure. The man that acts tough on the outside but in reality would die to cuddle at night and give me kisses. That’s the man I am so in love with and nothing, not even the opinions of millions of people will ever take me away from you because the heart wants what the heart wants and what mine wants is you Justin. Nobody else but you baby.”
Nothing was functioning right in my brain as I listened to her and when she was finally finished I just stared at her. Never in my entire life before I met her did I ever think I would find someone who loved me for me. I never thought I’d find someone who didn’t care about my money and who didn’t care about my fame. I thought I’d be alone and heartless forever but then Sophia just fell into my arms and changed it forever. Literally.
All I could bring myself to do was pull her onto my lap and brush a couple of strands of hair behind her ear so I could look into her eyes. She was smiling now because she knew what she had just said made me the happiest man on the entire earth and when I went to say something she put her fingertip on my lips to silence me.
“Don’t say anything.” She whispered. “Just kiss me.”
That’s exactly what I did, pressing my lips to hers so gently that her eyes fluttered closed and my hands carefully traced down her back. I’ve never been so in love with someone in my entire life but I certainly was in love with Sophia. She made me crazy and insane and made me feel like I’d rip my hair out at times but I will never love someone or anything like I love her.
“I’m so sorry for saying those things to you Soph. You know I didn’t mean them.”
“I know Justin and I’m sorry for what I said too. Things are stressful right now but you and I aren’t ever splitting up. I’m in this for the long run and I mean that.”
“You promise me baby?”
She pressed her lips to mine like I just did to hers and the gentle kisses from her always made me weak. God, nothing can beat this feeling.
“I promise.” She whispered, pulling away slightly. “We’re forever.”
