so i made this for a friend and while i am VERY rusty as far as writing angst goes, i wanted to get this out as soon as possible because i'm a pathetic simp for this man jsdfsvasb- once again this was writted late at night so please disregard any typos as i will get to them soon enough. also i know the ending was rushed; if anybody wants me to, i can make a refined version of this and change the plot a bit so i can attempt to make a better impact with the angst :)

WARNING: cursing (maybe), mild gore, major character death

For a long time now, Nanami and you had been in that weird stage of your relationship where the both of you were oblivious to the others feelings and everybody else knew. Multiple times, the both of you had been paired on certain assignments, sometimes by other staff members in hopes that the both of you would come walking back in with your hands clasped together. However, that hadn't happened yet. Countless assignments and outings and missions, and yet each time the both of you stood next to each other at an awkwardly short but also far distance from the other.

For other staff members and teachers, it was excruciating, having to see the both of you dance around the elephant in the room each and every time the both of you were within 10 feet of each other. It was slightly pathetic and also very amusing in its own twisted sort of way. On one hand it was entertaining to see the both of you constantly struggle with just being together in any sort of situation.

For you and Nanami, though, it was a bit of a different situation. You were both painfully awkward and also shy around each other, leading the both of you to believe that the you hated each other; this suspicion only became more real for the both of you when you would over analyze the whole thing by recognizing how bad your relationship was and how good the others relationships were with other people. For Nanami, it was because with other people you would smile so freely and how with him you were suddenly awkward and quiet. For you, it was just the fact that he seemed kinder with other people.

That's not to say he wasn't kind to you, of course, because he was. It just seemed like he radiated a different sort of kindness with other people. Something more genuine, if you will. It felt like forced kindness when he was with you.

And yet, here the both of you are, preparing for another mission you had been assigned together. Standing outside the area which the curse resided, you awkwardly tapped your shoes as though there was a rock situated in the middle and you were trying to get it somewhere else. He simply stood like a statue, with that same pristine and perfectly stoic look as always on his face. You wanted to say something, but he beat you to it.

"Try to hold back until I say so... you know the drill." He said quietly before patting your shoulder in a way that was probably meant to comfort you.

Your voice wavered, but you pretended like you didn't notice. "Right! And don't be afraid to call for help if you need it. I know how you are."

He seemed to sigh at this and chose to leave it at that, as he walked into the abandoned building. For a few minutes, it seemed as though there wasn't a curse at all and you began suspecting the higher-ups competence. That was, until you heard was sounded like creaking floorboard from above you. You looked up to see dust falling from the boards above you. Then, a splintering sound echoed in the room and before you could do anything, Nanami had tackled you to save you from the sudden crash. There in front of you now, was probably the biggest curse you'd seen in quite some time

There in the store, stood Nanami, peering over the glass and trying to pick out the perfect gift. Something that would really say 'I want to spend the rest of my life with you, even though we haven't dated or even had a proper conversation.' He knew it was silly.
