Rose

"You make a habit οf closing your eyes in public places." He said and I froze. What are the odds? It was supposed to be a private party. Is he also a friend of Danny's? Just my luck. I reluctantly opened my eyes and looked at him. Wearing a suit again. He must love his suits, wearing them all day. Although there was not much light on the spot I was standing, I could still admire his face. I remained silent, shamelessly checking him out. Why did I throw his note again? Ah, yes because he is a creep. My mind finally worked, I threw the butt to the ground and I tried to walk past him. He touched my arm gently, he knew better than grab me like he did the other time.

"Can you please stay a little, so we can talk? I messed up, big time. I know it, but I want to at least explain myself to you. Ten minutes. Please." I sighed and nodded affirmatively.

"You look beautiful tonight by the way. Not that you are not beautiful every day, but tonight you are.... Fuck, I'm doing it again. I don't know what is happening to me when I'm around you." I burst out laughing and couldn't stop.

"I'm sorry. It just........ I don't know what you want me to say." I kept laughing and soon he joined me.

"I like seeing you laugh." He said and I stopped. "I'm sorry about everything. I didn't want to put you in an uncomfortable position. The thing is, I sometimes go by the café for my morning coffee before going to work. I saw you once or twice and I noticed you were always alone. I wanted to come and talk to you, but I was afraid that I would intrude. You were always reading a book or writing on your laptop." He said and put his hands in his pockets, while lowering his eyes to the ground.

"So, what made you change your mind the other day?" I asked honestly.

"That was just one lucky coincidence. I had forgotten my lighter, which was no lie. Plus it's been over three weeks. I don't know if I could wait any longer. I really want to get to know you better."

"Why?" I asked crossing my arms. Intrigued by his little speech, but still not entirely convinced that he was being honest.

"Why don't we start by telling me your name first?" he fired back.

"It's Rose. My name is Rose Marshall."

"Nice to meet you Rose Marshall. I'm Marco, as you already know. " He said extending his hand.

"Just Marco? No last name for you?"

"Not important." He replied smiling and I smiled too as I heard him using the line I used in our first encounter.

"So Rose can I see you again? I hate to keep you from your company; you'll probably want to go back inside. You already have my number, but I would like to have yours as well, just to be safe, you know."

I bit my lip and used one of those cute face expressions that Jay made to gain some sympathy.

"Right, you probably didn't get my note. I swear that barista seemed pretty reliable. I even...."

"She gave me the note, I might have misplaced it. " I said cautiously and he exhaled loudly.

"You were never going to call me, were you? Look Rose, you have to be honest with me, are you at all willing to give me a chance? I haven't done anything like this before, so I really don't know what to expect."

"I remember. You are used to women coming after you, right?" He looked at me with a hurt expression and shook his head.

"You've obviously made up your mind, so I guess that's it. It was nice meeting you Rose, even under these circumstances. Take care." He said and started walking. It didn't feel right. It seemed as if I were in the wrong here. I felt like I had hurt him.
