Her memory was wiped. She doesn't know how stubborn she is. Her past was destroyed. She doesn't know that her mind can map the Maze. Her beliefs were stripped away. She doesn't know yet that she will do anything to protect herself from being controlled. Her world has caught on fire. She just doesn't realize that she's a pyromaniac who will smile at the flames.
But in the end? It won't take her long to figure all of that out.
Content warnings: some minor cussing, death, and gore, but not really anything worse than what's already in the book series. Ash is also a pyromaniac (and yes I did my research), so if that is triggering or unhealthy for you to read this may not be a good fit for you.
THERE WILL BE ANGST IN THIS STORY. If you're going to be upset by major character death, negative character arcs, and bittersweet endings that are far more bitter than sweet, this is not the right story for you.
Newt also has long hair in this story, because I said so. I know 90% of fans hate his description in the book of having long hair, but I have a genuine reason to keep it this way.

It's insane that I'm finally here posting this story. I started writing it two years ago when I was first reading The Maze Runner (I was writing fanfic before I even finished the first book), and this story is super close to my heart. I've gone through three drafts, over two hundred thousand words, and a pile of beta readers - Naomi, Syl, Maple, Arya, Emma, and others who helped me a great deal. This story wouldn't be nearly as good without that support and encouragement, and I'm super grateful.
