The Book (By Twilight Sparkle)

Hello. My name is Twilight Sparkle. I used to be a student in Canterlot, but now I study friendship and magic in Ponyville. I have made lots of friends and defeated many foes, but I still have lots to learn.

One cool winter day, I was sorting books from last nights late night study session. I heard the door open, but no one came to me, so I guessed it was the wind. About a half hour later, the wind had long stopped, and the door opened again. Probably Spike. I decided not to worry. Tomorrow I have a test so I need to keep studying. I am surprised Princess Celestia gave me a test the day before Hearths Warming Day. She probably has a good reason. I was collecting books on everything I had read. They included some of my favorite books. Equestrian Myths, Ponyville's Founding, and my all time favorite book, The Elements Of Harmony Insider. It was a rare book. Only 3 copies were ever made. The princess owns two of the copies, and she has so generously lent me one to study with. The 3rd copy disappeared hundreds of years ago. The 3rd copy had all the info, including the 6th element. The one page that was missing in the other 2 books. I took the books from the shelves. I started to read. I read and read. I didn't stop till I had read the 8 books, 3 times over. Each. I put the books away and dragged myself up to bed. Test tomorrow. EEEEEK!!! I am so nervous. I woke up with a scroll sitting on my lap. A quill was on my table. My room was totally empty accept for my bed and table. There was a force field at the door. No one comes in till the test is over, no one comes out. I take the quill and start to write. I kept going. The test was only one page, but I checked and changed each question multiple times. I wrote "done" on the line at the bottom and the paper vanished. The force field was gone. I would get the test back tomorrow, on Hearths Warming Day. I realized I had not gotten my friends gifts yet!!! I ran out the door, with my bag of bits in hand. I first went to Casies House of Fancy Hats. I found a pretty straw hat with blue plaid trim for Applejack. A hat with plastic fruit nestled in the top for Pinkie. I went into Scarf Haven. I found a light blue and lime green scarf with pink butterflies for Fluttershy. I went to Julia's Jewels and found a pack of assorted decorating gems for Rarity. I bought Spike a pre-aged fire ruby, on sale! I went to Amber Athletics and bought Rainbow Dash a sports jacket. I went into La Clair De La Lace. The fanciest store around. I got a pretty necklace for Cadence, and a simple, boyish necklace for Shining Armor. I got Princess Celestia a bottle of perfume. My shopping is done. I go home and add up the money I spent. Ouch. I go out for dinner, to The Teacup, my favorite restaurant. Spike and I share a fish stew. Mmm. We go home and read. We read till the sky is black. Then we go to bed. In the morning I woke up to my favorite breakfast, poached Phoenix eggs, waffles, and apple juice. Spike gave me the perfect gift. I handed him the small box with the fire ruby. He tore it open, and his eyes widened. He licked it gratefully. He thanked me, then ran to go cut it, so he could eat it. I loved seeing him so happy. He came back, holding a letter from the princess, as he munched on his gem. He opened it and gave it to me. I read:

Dear Twilight Sparkle,

Has your Hearths Warming Day been fun so far? I hope the gift attached will make even more fun.

Instantly a bundle of tickets to the Wonderbolt's Hearth Warming Day show fell from the paper. I counted them.

7 Tickets! One for me, AJ, Pinkie, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Rarity* and Spike!!! I trotted to the door, to go tell my friends, but they were all there!! I forgot I told them all to come over..

"Merry Hearths Warming Day everyone!" I said to them. They all came inside. We took turns opening gifts. I went last. They each took turns coming around. Rarity gave me a new, simple, pink party dress with pink lace. Rainbow Dash gave me a locket, with a picture of her in one side, and the whole gang in the other. Fluttershy gave me a dark blue scarf with stars. Apple Jack gave me a red purse, with yellow and green apples.

Pinkie was standing in the corner.

"Are you okay Pinkie?" I asked her. She came over and talked too fast for me to hear. I looked at her curiously. She said sadly,

"Sorry." She had no gift for me. I was shocked and angry and sad at the same time. She gave everyone a gift but me. I tried to smile, but a frown won the battle.

I let out a small smile and said to them all, "goodbye guys! See you next time! Bye." They all looked kind of shocked as they filed out the door. I went to bed that night feeling sad.

The next morning there was a knock at the door. There was no one there, but a poorly wrapped gift. It had messy writing on it that read:

To Twilight

From Pinkie (who is very sorry)

I tore open the paper. A book. A brown book, with the title rubbed off. I opened it, and the first page read:

The Elements Of Harmony

Copy 3

I gasped and dropped the book. The third copy of the elements of harmony book. Mine.

I learned that I don't need holiday gifts. All I need is friends, even though a gift is nice once and a while.
