6 - Burning the World Down

"He's roaming the streets yelling for you. He's getting on my nerves at this point."

"Can you take me to him?" Michael asked hopefully.

"Now why would I help you, angel?" Ashton scoffed.

Michael's hopefulness faded, "Why...Why did you take me then?"

"To have some fun with Luke. He is going to be upset when he finds out that I have you and he's going to be even more upset when I take your blood."

"N-No!" Michael felt tears immediately form in his eyes when he saw Ashton smirk evilly, "Please don't."

He whimpered when Ashton appeared directly in front of him, grabbing his arms and pulling them out for him to start cutting up. But Ashton stopped when he saw the fading marks.

Michael was wrong about his estimate on how long the cuts were going to take to heal, since they were still present and unhealed.

"Who did this?" Ashton asked, peering down into the angel's tearful green eyes as he waited for an answer. But Michael didn't answer, using all of his energy not to sob out in fear.

"I asked you who did this, angel." Ashton said impatiently with anger brimmed in his voice.

"I-I don't know." He said as the tears started to steam down his face, "S-Some m-monsters took my b-blood."

Ashton's anger faded as he watched the angel in front of him cry. For some reason...he couldn't seem to play out his plan of hurting the angel and taking his blood.

Seeing him so hurt and delicate already made Ashton feel guilty, even though he wasn't the one to hurt him. He internally scoffed as he realized that he was acting just like Luke was towards the angel.

"Stop crying. I'm not going to hurt you."

"Y-You're going to take my b-blood." Michael tried to calm down as as looked up at the demon that was still holding onto his arms.

"Not anymore."

"W-Why?" Michael asked a little more calmed down. It didn't seem like Ashton was going to hurt him anymore, but was he telling the truth?

Ashton ignored the question and said, "I'm going to take care of you instead."

"C-Calum takes care of me."

"Who's Calum?" Ashton narrowed his eyes at the angel.

"H-He stays at the lake. He takes care of me." Michael couldn't help but to smile slightly and Ashton noticed.

Even though Calum remained mostly quiet there was something comforting and pleasant about him. Michael enjoyed having him there and he liked watching him watch the lake.

"Not any longer." Ashton stated.

"What? Why?" Michael asked worriedly. He didn't want to be taken away from Calum, he was the only one that he completely trusted. Plus Ashton scared him.

"Because he's a monster, correct?" He asked, earning a short, hesitant nod from Michael, "He can only protect you for one hour of the 24. I can protect you for all of them."

"Why?" Michael asked frighteningly confused.

"Why what?"

"Why would you want to protect me?"

"Why would Calum want to protect you?" Ashton asked in response, avoiding coming up with an answer he didn't have.

"He only protects me because he made some deal with Luke..." Michael said with a hint of sadness in his explanation.

He wished that Calum would protect him just because he wanted to, because he wanted to be there for him. But Michael knew that it was only because he made some deal with Luke, a deal that he knew nothing about.

"And why does Luke want to protect you?" Ashton asked interested.

Maybe if Ashton understood why Luke wanted to protect Michael then he could understand why he suddenly wanted to as well.

"I-I don't know." Michael shook his head, too confused about everything going on around him, the two monsters, and now the one demon, "I've only talked to him once the night that we had met."

"You've only talked to him once?" Ashton asked surprised, "And he's that desperate to find you?"

"Desperate?" Michael asked not answering Ashton's question.

"I'd say he's on the verge of burning the world down at this point."

Michael couldn't help but to smile slightly at this. Luke was looking for him, he wanted to find him.
