Scottie walked into the cafeteria after nearly being shoved to the side by a nearly in tears Scarlett and then completely shoved to the side by a livid Axel. He was apprehensive to walk into the cafeteria if enough drama had ensued to cause that but he made his way inside anyway.

His arms ached from carrying the heavy textbooks and he walked in to see everyone laughing. He frowned in confusion until he caught sight of Stacey running out of the other entrance to the cafeteria.

And before he began to overthink things, Scottie turned around and ran after her.

He walked down the empty corridor that led to the boy's gym. The class was outside for the whole period so no one was around. Scottie rounded the corner and saw Stacey sitting on the benches that lined the side of the wall.

He came over and sat down beside her, chewing on his lip awkwardly.

"Um, are you okay?" he asked and Stacey nodded. "What was that about?"

Stacey shrugged her shoulders, eyes red but stance strong, as she leaned her back against the wall. "I kissed Axel...as his girlfriend was watching."

Scottie whistled low.

"Well damn," he said with a smile which Stacey glared at. "I've heard it all now."

"Oh shut up," Stacey rolled her eyes. "Why are you here anyway?"

"You looked upset," Scottie said.

"My knight in shining armour."

"I do try my best."

"Well you're wasting your time. I'm fine and I'd prefer to just be alone for once."

"People say they want to be alone but they don't really mean it," Scottie commented.

Stacey looked at him. "Some do."

"Why did you do it then?" Scottie asked. "The kissing thing."

Stacey leaned against the wall behind her. "Had to."

"Had to?" Scottie frowned.

"People expected everything to blow up so I had to make sure it went off. If you don't play their game then there's no point in even being there."

"You really only care about what other people say, don't you?" Scottie asked.

"If that's all you had left, you would care too," Stacey said. "I can't do anything independently. I have cheerleaders that tell me all the gossip. I have people tell me what I should be doing next. How I should be acting. Who I should be hooking up with. What I should be wearing. You know for once, I would like to just come into school wearing sweatpants and a hoodie, just to see which one of the cheerleaders blows up first."

"Oh, it would definitely be Kerry," Scottie suddenly grinned. "That chick talks like a chipmunk on drugs. If even a tiny thing goes wrong in the world all that pent up frustration will just explode out of her."

Stacey laughed and, for a moment, forgot the tear trails that ran down her cheeks and left an imprint on her foundation.

Scottie noticed.

"I haven't really seen you much," Stacey said.

"I keep to myself," Scottie explained with a shrug, leaning back on the wall with Stacey. "I'm like the nerdy footballer. I mess around with the guys but I'm more for actually getting shit done so I don't fail."

Stacey smiled and looked down at the ground.

"I messed up, didn't I?" Stacey asked and wasn't sure if she was directing the question at Scottie or herself.

"That depends really," Scottie mused. "Did Axel deserve it?"

Stacey thought for a moment.

She thought about how he had used her. Taken her virginity and led her on for months. He had exposed her to his friends and made her feel cheap and nasty - or did she do that?

"Yeah." Stacey whispered. "I think he deserved it."

"Did she deserve it?"

Stacey frowned, glancing over at Scottie.

Did Scarlett deserve it? She didn't even know the nerd who had enamoured Axel in a heartbeat. But did she really deserve to have herself hurt like that?

"I don't know," Stacey finally said.

And even though it was a horrible thought to have, Stacey couldn't help but be slightly happy that there was someone else out there that was feeling the same heartache that Stacey had lived with for years.
