Reader's POV

I looked around the library.
Leslie was at my side, helping me pick out some books.

I sat down, then felt a hand on mine.
Ray? It had to be him, that was his touch. I would know it blind... I would know Ray no matter what.

I heard some humming and looked around.

Ray peeked over from his book.
"Hey, Y/n,"
He said.

My heart fluttered and I smiled.
"Hey, Ray!"
I smiled.

It had been 2 years since I reunited with everyone.
So far, everyone was nice.
School was fairly easy.
Leslie stuck by my side.
So everything was okay.

I went ahead and sat next to him.

I was closer to Ray than anyone else at this point.
I mean, Norman and Emma were my greatest friends, but Ray... he was different.

How? I didn't know just yet.

I think it had to do with the meaning of 'I love you' but I wasn't sure.

Ray was always protective of me.
Even at school, he would make sure no one tried to touch or do anything to me.
So he did that by sticking to my side, keeping his hand in mine.

It was strange to other people though. They asked if we were dating and said Ray had a crush on me.
Both which Ray didn't completely deny, he just ignored them, while I shook my head.

About a year ago, I asked him about it at school...

--

I sat next to Ray at a tree as we always did together during lunch.

"Ray, why do people ask that?"
I asked him.

He shrugged.
"They're weirdos, bu- Y/n,"
He said.

That happened a lot with him.
He always said something like 'butter' before correcting himself and saying my name.

"But why?"
I asked him.
"Ray, I know there's more to it."

He sighed softly and looked over to me.
"They're not like us... holding hands takes a lot for those wusses. They think we're doing it to show we're more than friends,"
He tried to explain.

I nodded slightly.
"But aren't we more than friends, Ray?"
I asked.

His face practically lit up, but it seemed like he tried to stay calm. His face was pink.
"Um-"

"Since we're family... best friends," I said.

His smile faltered but he nodded.
"Yeah..."
He muttered.

I was confused but I nodded back as I continued to eat.

Ray must've spotted someone, someone mean, because he wrapped his arm around me.
