"I told you that I'm fine... It's fine. I've came to terms with everything, James. There's nothing for you to feel sorry about. You didn't know... and now you do." I whisper as I cautiously cup his cheeks, forcing his eyes to make contact with my own. His hands are now both placed on my waist as I close my eyes; swaying very slowly.
"I just wish it were us..." He trails off as I sigh.
"I know..."
"I wish Nathaniel was here to have your first dance..." James mumbles as I now freeze, the music stopping as we don't pull away; his hands gripping my waist tighter.
"The music stopped... I have to dance with my husband now..." I mutter, not wanting to let go; as selfish as that sounds.
"Just a second..." He whimpers as I wrap my arms around his neck, feeling his tears soak into my tuxedo before a tap on my shoulder practically forces us apart after a few seconds. "Okay... sorry for that..."
"It's..." I deeply breathe as I give a stern nod, patting his shoulders. "We'll talk later, okay?"
Getting a nod back, he leaves the dance floor with his shoulders slumped; taking a seat in his assigned chair. Feeling that tap again, I smile as I turn around to see Lance offer a hand. "May I have this dance, mi amor?"
"You may..." I give him my hand as we assume the same position as James and I; only I never laid my head on his shoulder.
"So what was all that about? Seemed like a lot more happened than a simple dance." Lance questions as he looks at the patch of wetness on my shoulder.
"It wasn't anything important... just last minute confessions."
"Confessions? What kind of confessions?" Lance twirls me slowly as I shrug, being pulled back into his arms as we sway.
"How he wished it was us and that... N-nathaniel should have been the o-one to have m-my first dance..." I stutter, not used to saying the name after so many years.
"Who's Nathaniel? I'll ignore the other thing for now, who wouldn't want to be married to you?" Lance playfully scoffs as I painfully smile. "Is it another...?"
"No. No! Nothing like that!" I exclaim before clearing my throat, realizing everyone can hear us quite clearly. "It's Pa's name..."
"Pa... you mean your father? Like before Kolivan?" Lance whispers as I nod slowly, feeling myself getting pulled into a hug; still swaying with Lance gently. "Mi alma, has anyone before James just now, asked if you missed him? Have they spoken to you about it?"
"N-no... we've been focused on o-other things..." I trail off, thinking about two sexual assaults. "But I... I do miss him. Everyday..."
"Keith... you have a family who loves you. And I'm not saying for you to let us replace him. But let us attempt to fill that hole in your heart that was left void. Shiro sees us all as his children; whether or not he'd say it is a whole new question, but what I'm trying to say is: speak to us and let us know how you're feeling. Tears don't mean that you're weak. They show a strength that no one can comprehend and it makes me love you more each time you show them to me." Lance pulls back, making me follow his movements; his hand caressing behind my ear.
His deep blue eyes stare into my violet ones, observing me as a rush of feeling floods my senses; a sob wedged in my throat as Lance's eyes soften. I close my eyes as it forces it way out, losing control of my voice as I let everything weigh down on me. My knees buckle as I begin to slump, Lance following my lead as we both knee on the dancefloor; the music having stopped a few minutes before hand as I cling onto him, feeling small kisses on my cheeks and face.
The kisses stop before he plants his lips on mine, pouring his feeling into it as I breathe into it; leaning into his body while he caresses my arms lovingly. He pulls away as I slowly open my eyes. Behind his body stands Voltron along with James, watching us worriedly. "Are you okay, my love?"
"I'm great... never been better." I smile genuinely, giving a small thumbs up to the others who look at each other with concern. "That felt... nice... to just let it all out... Thanks Lance..."
"Anything for you. Come, let's sit down. Something tells me Sal's going to need a feeding soon." Lance grins as I chuckle before letting out a squeak at being lifted bridal style.
"Lance!"

Yo, I dead forgot to name drop Keith's father and explain the whole thing with James from the beginning. No better way to address that than at their wedding, amiright?
But seriously, that was fun as hell to write. I tried to drag that out for as long as I could without using lyrics and trying to incorporate raw emotion. This was honestly just a part to further explore James and Keith's relationship/friendship. Nothing toxic there, just pure family love.
