NOTHING COULD'VE PREPARED ARKADIA FOR THE TRAGEDY THAT HAD JUST OCCURED. no one would've expected their loved ones to get blown up into ash, especially may fernsby, who had lost her mother in the deadly explosion. she ran the fact that her mother was dead over and over again in her head, and she still couldn't process it. jenna fernsby, the woman that birthed her, taken care of her, loved her, protected her, is gone, and she'll never get to see her again. she'll never see her mother's beautiful smile, see how her eyes sparkled with love every time she looked at her. may fernsby felt as if she had no one to guide her. not anymore.

may fernsby felt as if she were alone.

for so long her mother gave her a reason to keep going, to keep fighting, and now that her presence was no longer here, she felt as if she had nothing to fight for. nothing to keep strong for, not anymore.

"who will speak for iris jones?"

pike's announcement from the front of the room brought may out of her trance. she sat next to bellamy in the wave of chairs where many arkadian's sat in, their mourning cries bouncing off of the walls. bellamy nearly dragged her out of bed and to the memorial by himself since the girl refused to get up because of her desire to do absolutely nothing that day, but she forced it upon herself to comply with bellamy's wishes, and went with him to the memorial.

bryan, miller's boyfriend went to the front of the room, his eyes nearly beginning to water just before he began his short speech, "iris was strong." he gulped nervously, beginning to fumble with a pocket knife in his hands, "good with a knife. she saved my life. i'm sorry i couldn't do the same for her." he flicked open the pocketknife, before setting it on the table with the many items of the ones that had sadly perished in the big explosion.

as bryan made his way back to his seat, pike made his way back to the front of the room, facing the mourning crowd. "we will miss iris." he formally asserted, "may we meet again."

"may we meet again." the crowd, including may repeated, their tones soft, and full of heartache.

"who will speak for jenna fernsby?"

may nearly froze in her spot as most eyes went to her, the crowd knowing she was the woman's daughter. bellamy placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, "you can do this." he whispered to her, and may gave him a reluctant nod before standing up and out of her seat.
