Stumbling back up the horrible platforms, my mind is spinning as I try to remember which door is my room, and which is Brendan's.

My new feet choose for me, and I stumble into Brendan's room.

He mutters something, and it's too intelligible for me to understand. I'm not sure if he's awake or asleep, so I just make my way to the cushioned seating area by his window and collapse into it.

I don't know much about Cerce, only that she is powerful, and not to be trusted. Which means I need to protect my only chance of breaking this curse from her. Brendan will not be leaving my sight until I make him fall in love with me.

Hugging myself, I remember a time when Lina had a nightmare and swam into my room for comfort. With our mother gone when she was so young, I've become the closest to a mother that she'll ever remember.

And now I'm gone, too. There's no one to comfort her, wherever she is in a strange world and time.

The full moon shines down on me, but there is no comfort for me in its light. Darkness is my only true companion in this time. Shadow and sorrow and shame.
