"No!" I scream, lifting my voice up over the tides. "I, the blood-queen of Atlantis, revoke the curse!"
Daring not to move anything but my mouth and bring the weeds back to my throat, I cry out.
"By the sea in my blood, in the sea shall we remain.
Nor shall transformation come, by the royalty in my veins-"
Cerce turns her head to me so slowly, I almost don't register her movement. Then her eyes flash.
The weeds tighten around my neck, cutting me off.
She lifts her own voice. "Because, oh royal one, you have dared to raise your voice,
Your voice I shall require from you.
Until your lover's lips meet yours by your choice,
Words shall fail you, then deepest truth."
The weeds are gone, and I open my mouth to retaliate, but the weeds may as well still be in place, because no sound escapes.
