I Stay High (Off My Mind)

I have circles under my eyes, dark and purple, imprinted deep.
I stay high in lack of sleep to keep you away.
I reminisce; bask in the glow of the past.
I have to stay high to keep you off my mind.
I have scratches from where my nails have dug deep, desperately to reach my cold, stoned heart.
I'd do anything to set your ghost free.
But you have become a part of me.
In the darkest night, you left me to my mind.
Creeping thoughts and lulling oceans, windowsills and trumpets blasting through, straight to the core of you.
I can't sleep to escape, for all dark places carry much weight.
And old ghosts, haunt.
And I stay awake inside.
Just to keep you off my mind.
Lullabies I used to play, sing myself to sleep and dream of wonderland, it's not the same thing.
Your deep voice plays like a record, going on and on and on.
I scream and shout to try and vanish the old demons out. But all I manage to find is a lost voice of mine.
I'll carry myself 'till the very end. Hoping for you to breathe me in again.
I stay high on old faces and ordinary places with pictures carved on walls. I imagine things.
I want a glimpse of a flame, just to have warmth again.
I stay high just to keep you off my mind.
