Our Chief Executive Carrie Lam said to thank healthcare professionals' hard work, she offers to waive our registration fees for the next three years. Our registration fees are $405 HKD per year, which equates to about ~£30 / $40 USD. Wow. But she refuses to promise not to seek repercussions for our strike in February 2020.
When I took a taxi from one hospital to another with some colleagues, at some point the taxi driver realised we were healthcare workers. He offered an 80% discount for our journey -- we said no, of course, and he then thanked us for our hard work. It was heartwarming.
A few days later, I admitted an old lady with hospital-acquired pneumonia and I spoke to her daughter about a DNACPR. The daughter agreed, in view of her mother's elderly age and many health problems, and then also thanked us for our work during these hard times. It was moments like this that gives me a bit of a morale boost. It was also nice the daughter didn't blame me for her mother being readmitted so soon after discharge (trust me, that's happened before).
