Chapter 5: Halloween Costume
Stella just got of the shower and Kevin was waiting for her in her bedroom with the hairbrush.
Kevin: alright kiddo, time to brush your hair so you can get in your Halloween costume
Stella: okay! *sits on Kevin's lap* I can't wait for the carnival. Thanks you boys for coming
Kevin: of course we wouldn't miss it for the world
Stella: Joe will be here right? I mean there's no Halloween without our Joe-Joe
Kevin: it's up to Joe if he wants to come to our tradition. We been doing this every year since Nick was born, now it's your turn
Stella: what was your tradition Kev?
Kevin: we just did trick or treating, we never really had traditions growing up
Stella: what made mom and dad change their mind with Nick and I
Kevin: I guess they wanted to do something different and not the same thing every year
Stella: make sense, ow!
Kevin: hold still
Stella: your pulling so hard! I like it when Nicky does it, he doesn't pull my hair hard when he does it
Kevin: oh yeah, how does Nicky do it?
Stella: *screams* NICKY!
Kevin: *covers ear* indoor voice Stella, gee
Stella: *blush* sorry
Nick: *comes in* yeah?
Stella: can you brush my hair? Kevy does it too hard
Nick: sure
Kevin: she's all yours
Nick grabbed the brush from Kevin and put her on his lap.
Nick: you see you do it gentle like this. I hold a piece of hair and brush it away from her head and I do it piece by piece
Kevin: who taught you that?
Nick: mom, when we were on tour, she would also put some stuff in her hair to help with the knots in her hair
Kevin: I'll go check her bathroom for some
Nick: thanks
Kevin leaves for a couple minute and Stella said to Nick.
Stella: I remember when mommy would always does my hair before bed and morning
Nick: well that's why mom taught me, so I could do how she does your hair.
Stella: can you do my hair how mommy does it all the time?
Nick: of course squirt
Stella: thanks Bubba, I miss mommy
Nick: I miss her too, but you know what will help us remember her by?
Stella: what?
Nick: her memories
Stella: oh yeah, I remember everything about momma, the way she talks, smells and sings
Nick: yeah me too
Kevin: *comes back* here you go
Nick: thanks Kev
Nick showed a Kevin how to gently take the knot out of of Stella's hair, before completing it with two bows at the end of her hair after putting French braids.
Stella: thank you Nicky
Nick: you're welcome squirt, now go on, put your costume on
Stella: I'm gonna be the prettiest little red riding hood ever!
Nick: come on so Joe can put on his wolf costume
Stella: is Joe gonna be here this year?
Nick: don't worry about a Joe, Joe would never let you down on Halloween after all it's his favorite holiday
Stella: true, without Joe there's no ween in our Hallow
Kevin: go check on Joe for me, while I put her costume on
Nick: yes sir
Nick leaves and went to find Joe not in his costume.
Nick: Joe please tell me you're in your costume
Joe: *looks up* that's today?
Nick: dude, do not do this to Stella right now, she really looking forwards his holiday
Joe: I don't want to dress up
Nick: why not? You two are the ones that agreed on the costume together
Joe: that was before dad left
Nick: is that what's this is about? Your mad at dad for leaving? You know that dad didn't have a choice! He had to leave to protect his country
Joe: exactly why I'm mad at him. Why did the had to leave to protect his country, when he has his own family that was falling apart. I need him more man!
Nick: look, I know you miss dad, I miss him too. But he wouldn't want us moping around missing him. What did dad say to you before you left?
Joe: Nick...
Nick: Joseph... what did dad say to you?
Joe: to look after you guys
Nick: exactly, and are you doing that right now
Joe: *sighs* I guess not, fine... I'll go get dressed
Nick: thanks
Kevin: guys! Let's go we are gonna be late for the carnival!
Stella and Nick comes down the stairs in their costume and Stella said.
Stella: Frankenstein
Kevin: I'm going to eat your brain bwaahhhhh
Stella: *giggles* you're funny Kevy
Kevin: thanks. Dude are you gonna even try to dress up this year
Nick: Stella forcing me to wear this cap, don't push it. You're lucky I'm still going this year
???: where is my yummy dessert?
Nick: oh no! The big bad wolf is here. Protect the princess
Nick and Kevin protected Stella as Joe came down the stairs in his wolf costume.
Joe: where is my delicious snack?
Stella: you're not gonna eat me big bad wolf
Joe: oh yeah, I'm gonna half, and puff-
Kevin: wrong story
Joe: right....
Stella: I am so gonna win the costume contest
Joe: I think the big bad wolf gonna win it
Stella: everyone knows that the cute adorable one wins every year
Kevin: oh please the point of Halloween costumes is that they're supposed to be scary. I'm the scary one around here
Nick: nah your just scary
Kevin gives Nick a look making the other two laugh and he smiles innocently at a Kevin and Joe said to Stella.
Joe: alright what did we practice this year
Stella: trick or treatment smell my feet, give me something good to eat, if you don't I don't care, I will pull your underwear
Kevin: Joseph!
Joe: hey you gotta admit, it's a catchy song
Kevin: Stella, don't listen to Joe, do what you were always taught
Stella: fine... you always gotta suck the fun out of everything *leaves house*
The boys shrugged and follows right after her.
