Where were you

Where were you

Where were you
When the world stopped turning,
When nature took over?
For who was this a beautiful sight?

I can hear hyenas
Laughing in the distance
Some say, "Look who's in a zoo now?"

Where were you
When all you could see was the blue sky
Through a tinted window?

The softness of the grass
Makes me long for a day,
When I just want to make grass angels
And play 'guess the form of the clouds'
But the only grass I can touch
Is plastic. Mimics.
The only clouds I see are up on the wall.

Where were you
When the masks began?
When tech became boring?

I scroll through Instagram,
Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok
But everything is the same.

Nothing.

Never have I ever been so
Sick and tired of the tellie, of Netflix.
Who am I? Am I really converting
Back to the basics of the 1900s?
Am I really aiming for books?

Where were you
When the dust settled
When we felt the sun's warmth
When the masks fell?

A wonderful day will come,
But for now, where are you in all of this?
