You find yourself dreaming about that incident over and over again the next days. The intensity of the fight, the strength each person had exuded, the loyalty coming from each side. It was all so alluring. You dream about the scene over and over again, waking up in a cold sweat, your sheets sticking to you. You sigh and lay back down, wondering if your whole winter break would go on like this. You get up and walk to the kitchen, pouring yourself some water. The cool liquid helps you collect your thoughts and calm down.

The house is eerily quiet because your parents are at some ski lodge somewhere far away. Of course they decided to leave you at home. You check the time flashing on your microwave, 3:42. You sigh, nothing would be open for another 3 hours. Then your mind flickers to your friend, Jase. He was staying in the hospital near your house because of his recent knee surgery. You consider checking in on him because there's no way you can go back to sleep.

You hurry back upstairs and just pull on a sweatshirt and a pair of converse. As you walk toward the garage, you grab a half eaten box of Oreos to share with Jase. Maybe then there'd be some point in visiting him besides insomnia. As you drive along the empty road toward the hospital, you see the ocean and can't help but remember that fight. You start to unfocus and daydream at the wheel. Then the next thing you know, you see a boy frozen in your headlights.

It's too late to stop fully but as you slam on the breaks, the car starts to slow. You hit the boy and scream even after the car stops. When he doesn't get back up right away you quickly get out of the car and run to the front. The boy looks just younger than you, maybe 15. His eyes were closed and his dirty blonde hair was matted to his forehead.

You sigh in relief as you see his chest rise up and down. You notice that he is holding his stomach even in his unconscious state. Slightly moving his hand, you see blood soaking through his thin white shirt. Your fingers linger over the wound and then you spring into action. You press your hand against the wound, trying to stop the flow of blood as you lift the boy gingerly. You set him into the passenger seat. You remember from somewhere that putting a credit card against the wound would reduce the chance of air getting in so you take out your wallet and hold the plastic card in place.

You hop into the drivers seat and speed off toward the hospital. When you finally arrive, you run into the ER, gathering the boy into your arms and hastily locking the car doors. You see that his breathing is getting somewhat irregular and yet your mind seems to lock itself in a steely state. The panic you felt earlier fades from your mind as you become logical and efficient. You walk into the room and go to one of the nurses you recognized from your previous visits with jase. Her face drops when she sees the boy.

"Kay! What the Hell?" the nurse gasps, her hands flying to her mouth.

"Maris, nows not the time. Find Dr.Field right now,"you order. Maris nods and runs away, looking for the doctor. You call out to the staff standing around as you move toward a vacant room to the side. A group of nurses rush toward you with armfuls of medical instruments.

You set the boy down on a stretcher and watch as the nurses methodically cut open his shirt. They remove the credit card with confused looks but continue to apply several salves and bandages. By the time the doctor arrives, the swarm of nurses had the boy bandaged up and hooked to a drip.

"Kay, what happened?" Dr.Field asks with a stern look.

"He was in the road and I sorta bumped into him with my car," you say sheepishly.

"There is no way that wound is from a car," one of the nurses from earlier says, wiping her forehead with the back of her hand. The doctor nods slowly, absorbing the information.

"Kay, go wait outside," the doctor tells you. You nod and make your way out of the door into the brightly lit lobby.
