A Princesses Dream

In interludes among the lines of pages written in between heartache and heartfelt

I remember you softly pressed between the words wandering on

A  playful pull at the edges of your mouth as scenery poured out around you

I heard the sentences that would bind me to your chapters soon to come and ever after

Did you know you spoke my favorite story?

The lighthearted princess that painted worlds in her colors

Calling out the symbols of her youthful dreams as age echoed around her

pouring from the pen like rain in a storm of mourning

you soaked the crinkled papers in your own fairy tales

while dragons in far off lands down the hall roared throughout the night

you wrote to me of your guarded treasures hidden deep beneath the tower of clothes

A small trove that not even dragons could find with their ever constant hunger

Your greatest secret for the prince that would one day ride forth

in a suit of gleaming confidence defiant against the roaring warnings

With a chariot of running motors waiting as he traversed perilous veranda

to pry you from the grip of claws that ripped away what you wished for most

With the waxing moon to light your path to a road of stretching freedom

To your own sunrise of happily ever after

All the while you wrote to me

I listened and waited for you to say

Your beloved prince's name

And my keys sat waiting.
