I met an old soldier
he lost his left arm long ago
I asked if it had hurt him
he smiled
"I waved it off."
He was a funny old man
He told me he lost worse
I inquired
He responded
"I lost my wife to another,
it was too hard to hold on,
I drank too much in anger,
I couldn't keep a grip,
I just hope he holds her with both arms,
I didn't when I had them,
Then they shipped me over seas,
and I lost my arm,
I gotta hand it to god,
It may have taken some time,
but I'm all right now."
