So Close to Hypocrisy

When you laid upon my chest, I felt at ease to watch you rest

Though I knew you weren't mine, I cherished our precious time

For you set my soul to still, like sheltered birds on windowsills

Brief respite through storming night, until again forced to flight

Though I wish to keep you close, it is your choice that matters most

I leave you with the first of them, that took you in with love to mend

Released with laughing spirit high, I speak it then, my last goodbye

I hope to visit once again, my dearest and beloved friend.
